Chapter 223: Chapter 223: Power Boost! Changes on the Frontline
[Shadow Death Beam: Legendary Rank. A ray of light representing darkness and death. Every time it appears, it brings immense fear to enemies. It consumes a huge amount of mana to fire a 10km range black beam of death from the staff. Upon hitting an enemy, it deals 150% high damage. If the enemy dies, Shadow Death Beam continues moving in a straight line, though the damage gradually decreases.
If the enemy survives the initial hit, Shadow Death Beam splits around them. After splitting, each new beam deals 80% damage to its target and applies a special mark.
The next time Shadow Death Beam is cast, it will no longer travel in a straight line. Instead, it will lock onto marked enemies and split directly. It deals a staggering 200% damage to each target. Spending extra mana allows for a second cast of Shadow Death Beam in a short time. The number of splits depends on the user’s Spirit stat and total mana pool.]
Strong!
Very strong!
After reading the details of Shadow Death Beam, Aiden’s eyes suddenly lit up with excitement.
This skill had an incredible range and the damage output was off the charts.
With 200% damage, plus the damage boost from the Ring of Bane of All Races against Demon, it was clear: as long as the target was an Abyss Demon, he could deal terrifying damage in seconds.
Without any hesitation, Aiden learned the Skill Book immediately.
Next, he planned to use a Skill Enhancement Stone to boost his power again.
Slaying the Horned Demon had rewarded him with one Legendary Rank skill stone, three Epic Rank stones, and five Starlight Rank stones.
It was true; the Horned Demon had brought Aiden huge wealth.
Now that he had Shadow Death Beam, Aiden wasn’t in a rush to upgrade his damage skills further.
After thinking it over, he decided to use the Legendary Rank stone on the Mana Spring.
As the stone vanished, the Mana Spring began to change.
[Mana Spring: Legendary Rank, Passive Skill. Increases total mana pool by 70%, boosts mana recovery speed by 50%, and increases the speed of recovering mana from potions by 50%. If you spend 10% of your HP, you instantly recover 20% of your mana. This can only be used once a day.]
Aiden still had three Epic Rank Skill Enhancement Stones left. He had already decided how to use them.
Just seconds later, his skills Thunder’s Wrath, Hand of the Victor, and Ultimate Frost all upgraded to Epic Rank.
For Ultimate Frost, he first used a Starlight Rank stone, then followed up with an Epic Rank stone.
The only real pity was the lack of a Diamond Rank stone, which meant his Platinum Rank skill, Blazing Tornado, couldn’t be upgraded further.
However, for Aiden, Blazing Tornado’s main job was just to block or confuse the enemy’s vision, so it didn’t matter much.
After upgrading to Epic Rank, Thunder’s Wrath now had a 40% chance to boost damage, and its paralysis effect was increased to 1.5 seconds.
Hand of the Victor, a non-combat skill, also got stronger. Now that it was Epic Rank, it became much harder for other Reclassers to detect.
The upgrade to Ultimate Frost was huge too. It used even less mana, and the ice moved faster.
Even if an enemy inside its range wasn’t frozen, their movement speed was still reduced by 30%.
Aiden had only spent one day in the Abyss, yet his power had skyrocketed.
If he fought Jenna again now, he would win much more easily.
Of course, his damage against Abyss Demon would be even more terrifying.
Aiden felt impatient. He wanted to go find a Demon genius right now to test his new strength.
Also, he still had one Legendary Rank gear item he hadn’t equipped yet.
Thinking of that, Aiden reached up to stroke his furry face. He glanced back at his tail, which had now become fully accustomed to being there.
He still needed to keep using his identity as Werewolf Aiden.
Otherwise, next time he enters the Abyss or The Black City, he’d either have to show his true face, or reveal the face created by the Aberrant Fleshweaver mask to Brock and Fiona.
Aiden didn’t want to do that.
It’s better to have as few people or Abyss creatures know about that image as possible.
He still wanted to use that identity to do things that wouldn’t risk his true self. For example, he could disguise himself as a Demon genius and sneak into the Demon crowd on the frontline.
Maybe then, he could just use his Demon identity to cleanly and quickly take out Miles.
Thinking this, Aiden let out a quiet breath and pulled out his Legendary Rank mask.
First, he took off Fiona’s mask. Then, he slowly pressed the Aberrant Fleshweaver mask onto his face.
Instantly, a sharp, burning pain shot through his facial muscles and spread across his entire body.
He quickly walked into the bathroom and stared at the mirror.
To his surprise, the Aberrant Fleshweaver mask melted into a pile of flesh and fused right into his body.
Immediately, Aiden felt like he could control the Aberrant Fleshweaver mask now inside him.
He raised his right hand and imagined a change in his mind. His hand began to shift rapidly.
His long fingers instantly turned hard, covered in black scales, looking just like a dragon’s claws.
As long as he kept imagining, he should be able to shape a brand new image.
But at that moment, Aiden suddenly stopped.
He pulled out his phone and searched for the coolest, most dominant-looking Demon photos.
So far, the Flame Demon, Spider Demon, Horned Demon, and others he’d seen all looked incredibly ugly.
He didn’t want to look like them.
After searching for a bit, his eyes lit up. That’s the one!
Without hesitation, he started shaping his new image.
A few minutes later, a Demon stood in front of the mirror. He was 2.5 meters tall, with two horns on his head and scales covering his whole body. Sharp bone spikes grew from his elbows. He had explosive muscles, but his overall body shape was incredibly smooth.
He looked like a machine built purely for killing: cold, bloody, and radiating pure dominance.
Aiden watched his reflection with satisfaction.
This new form was based on the killing-focused Demon from the Abyss. When they showed up on the battlefield, they usually made human soldiers fall into terror and despair.
Since he had a new look, he needed a new name.
What should he call himself?
Aelris?
The name suddenly popped into Aiden’s mind. He didn’t hesitate or overthink it. Looking at his reflection, he said, “From now on, you’re named Aelris.”
In an instant, the tiny scales on Aiden’s face vibrated. His eyes were instantly covered by two translucent red scales.
Just then, footsteps came from outside the room.
Aiden focused his mind, reached up, and tapped his forehead lightly.
In less than a second, he reverted to his original self, though his clothes were completely torn apart from the transformation.
“Aiden, are you in there? It’s Caleb,” a voice called out from the door.
Aiden quickly changed into a fresh set of clothes and slowly opened the door.
Caleb looked deeply worried.
“What’s wrong?” Aiden asked.
Caleb sighed and replied, “You don’t know yet? Just after one day, four teams are already planning to quit this tournament.”
As the younger brother of the Elephant Empire Emperor, Caleb naturally hoped for more talented Reclassers on the frontline to hunt down Demons.
But the current result was a huge shock to him.
It was only the first day, and tomorrow even more teams might leave.
He clenched his fists tightly and cursed, “A bunch of cowards!”
Aiden heard this and didn’t even flinch.
Backing down in the face of danger is human nature, and as long as you don’t slow others down while doing it, Aiden wouldn’t say a word.
He had grown a lot since the start and no longer expected much from others. Instead of counting on other people, it was far better to focus on improving himself. That was the right path.
After venting his frustration, Caleb asked for the data Aiden had mentioned in the message.
Once he got the files, Caleb gave Aiden a serious look, took a slow step back, and bowed deeply.
“I am the younger brother of the Elephant Empire’s Emperor,” he said sincerely, “and I speak for all the people of the Elephant Empire to thank you. Thank you!”
Aiden studied him closely. Caleb’s voice was genuine, and his subtle body language showed no sign of fake politeness.
“Enough,” Aiden said. “If you really want to thank me, maybe skip the autograph?”
Caleb’s eyes widened in panic. He straightened his back immediately and started shaking his head frantically.
“No, no! That won’t work!” he rushed out.
“If I don’t get your signature, my female cousins will never let me hear the end of it. They were about to follow me here, and I barely managed to sneak away from the merchant guild.”
Aiden sighed helplessly at that. He went back into his room, grabbed some paper and a pen, and quickly signed his name.
Caleb let out a huge breath, finally looking a bit more relaxed.
However, Aiden noticed that deep in Caleb’s eyes, there was a weight he couldn’t hide.
Aiden saw him open his mouth a few times, as if he wanted to say more, but he just closed it again.
After a while, Caleb said he had other matters to handle and needed to leave.
But halfway out the door, he suddenly stopped.
His voice dropped low. “Aiden, are you going to give up?”
Aiden paused for a split second, then answered without hesitation: “Why would I give up?”
Caleb fell silent for a moment before speaking slowly. “Things have changed on the frontline. Videos are already popping up online, and soon, many more contestants will choose to quit.”
With that, he hunched his shoulders slightly and walked away.
Aiden instinctively pulled out his phone, opened TikTok, and searched for the Elephant Empire frontline battlefield.
After watching a few videos, his eyes slowly turned cold, filled with intense killing intent.
