Chapter 236: Chapter 236: Flee, Flee Quickly
The sewer, already filled with a terrible stench, became even harder to bear.
Scritch, scritch, scritch.
Pairs of crimson eyes suddenly appeared in the dark sewer, accompanied by the sound of rustling movement as things crawled around.
A chill filled the air.
Victor, Jade, and the others instantly got into a fighting stance.
At the same time, Aiden looked at the rippling sewage. Countless black worms, each no thicker than a finger, floated on the surface.
Right in front of Aiden, around a bend in the sewer passage, a figure appeared. It was about three meters tall, surrounded by a fine mist of Onyx-colored smoke, making its shape impossible to see clearly.
The black worms on the water swam quickly, gathering together.
They merged with one another, and in the blink of an eye, a Demon made entirely of worms formed.
“Damn it! This is all your fault! Now my food is going to taste bad!”
“Drew, you should say our luck is great. We actually ran into so many humans,” the shadow in the distance spoke.
“I am furious! Without fear and pain as seasoning, the food will be incredibly hard to swallow. Don’t you understand? Philip!” the worm-made Demon shouted back, its voice full of anger and annoyance.
Food?
Aiden turned to look at the little girl behind him.
His eyes suddenly turned cold, filled with killing intent.
If he wasn’t mistaken, the “food” that the Demon named Drew was talking about was this little girl.
The strange wounds on her body were likely there to make her feel even more fear and pain.
What bastards!
Aiden tightened his grip on the Abyssthe Flame Demon staff in his hand. Taking a deep breath, he immediately cast Aura reading on the two Demons.
Almost instantly, he saw the golden energy radiating from them.
“Good, so you two really are Mythic Rank Demon geniuses,” Aiden said coldly, a glint of ice appearing in his eyes.
The two Demons turned to look at him at once.
“You’re not even scared? You say ’good’? Hmph! Philip, I’ll bet you anything this guy is absolutely crazy,” Demon Drew said with a laugh.
In the next second, his eyes shook violently. His eyeballs slowly bulged out, stretching like long worms until they slid completely out of their sockets, staring right at Aiden.
“Be careful, Philip. This human isn’t as simple as he looks. I can sense the death of many of our kind on him,” Drew said slowly.
This was his special ability: sensing whether an enemy had killed a large number of their own kind.
The human before him radiated a strong scent of dead comrades.
This meant this guy was definitely stronger than he appeared on the surface.
Even so, Drew wasn’t overly worried.
He and Philip were Mythic Rank Demon geniuses. They might not be as powerful as Raphael, but taking down these few humans was no problem at all.
Soon, the focus of Philip and Drew shifted from Aiden to Nellie.
In their eyes, this human woman was clearly the strongest among them.
“Sigh, let me think… how do I make the food more delicious now? Damn! I killed her brother in front of her, piece by piece, just to torture him.”
“To create this delicacy, I’ve spent so much effort and time.”
Hearing this, Aiden could hold back no longer.
The Abyssthe Flame Demon staff in his hand suddenly burst with blinding light, and dozens of elemental arrows quickly formed in the air.
“Good. Next, you will face the same pain as them. No, I’ll make it even worse for you,” Aiden said, his voice icy.
The elemental arrows in front of him shot forward instantly, aimed directly at the two Mythic Rank Demons.
“Hmph, a weakling’s anger is so ridiculous,” Drew, the one closest to Aiden, shouted. His body suddenly collapsed, breaking apart into thousands of tiny black worms.
The elemental arrows flew right into the sewer walls instead of him, exploding on impact.
A flash of surprise crossed Aiden’s eyes. He had never met an enemy like this before, someone who could freely reassemble their body.
“Sir, you need to run! They are too strong!” the little girl suddenly cried out from behind Aiden. Her voice was full of begging and worry.
“Not only did my brother and mother die in their hands, but they killed so many other kids too!” she continued, her voice trembling.
“Run! You have to run!”
At that moment, Aiden shouted without hesitation: “Cici, take care of her!”
Cici, suddenly mentioned, paused for a second. She nodded hard, ran straight to the little girl, and wrapped her arms around her. She didn’t mind the filth on the girl’s body at all.
“Don’t be afraid,” Cici whispered softly. “Trust the captain. He is very strong. As long as he is here, no Demon can hurt you anymore.”
“Really?” The light in the little girl’s eyes flared up.
But she quickly shook her head, her whole body trembling as she looked at her brother’s corpse.
“Brother died protecting me. Now you want to protect me too, but I’m scared you’ll die like him,” the girl said, her eyes red and voice choked with tears.
“Damn it! You bastards! I’m not a man if I don’t kill you all!” Victor roared in anger. He pulled out his weapon, ready to join Aiden in fighting the two damn Demons.
But the person reacting the most of all was Nellie.
Right now, she was pressing both hands against her heart, taking deep, forceful breaths.
As a member of The Wycliffe Family—a hidden family—even their weakest members lived very well. They had enough food just by doing nothing at all.
This was the first time she had ever witnessed something like this. It all felt like a nightmare, so unreal it hurt.
Yet, right in front of her was a little girl with no arms or legs. Nellie could hear her heartbeat, her crying, and feel her fear and terror.
The ones who caused all this? The two Demons ahead.
“You really deserve to die!” Nellie spat out, her eyes burning with rage.
Her Radiant Thorns armor suddenly glowed bright, and the Radiant Thorns whip appeared in her hand.
“Hmph? Deserve to die?” Demon Philip laughed as he slowly walked out of the corridor. “In this world, only the weak deserve to die.”
“Didn’t you just try?” he continued, his tone mocking. “Your skills missed us completely. That is weakness.”
“Once the Demon Clan takes over the Earth, humans will only be our food, our slaves, and our toys.”
“The fact that we let your filthy race even exist on this world is the greatest mercy we have ever shown.”
The worms in the sewage swam rapidly, quickly reassembling in front of Philip to form Demon Drew once more.
He nodded as if it was the most natural thing in the world, then stuck out a bloody tongue. Looking at the little girl in Cici’s arms, he licked his lips and grinned.
“Don’t worry. Even if we rule this world, we won’t wipe out your kind. Humans are still quite useful to us.”
“Oh, right, I almost forgot. Before we kill you, there’s one more thing to do.” Drew quickly used his detection skill.
His expression froze for a moment, a hint of regret flashing in his eyes. He turned to Philip and said,
“I don’t know if we’re lucky or unlucky, but we ran into humans from the Great Shaw Empire. Specifically, a Reclasser.”
“You mean they have Aiden and Nellie?” Philip asked immediately, his voice dropping low.
Drew nodded and looked over at Nellie and Aiden.
The human geniuses the Demon Grand Duke and Demon GodLord were after… were actually the humans attacking them right now.
Though the Demons kept their voices low, the distance was so close, and Aiden’s Spirit attribute was so high, he could hear every single word.
“Sigh, an Epic Rank shielding spell is still too low tier. I really need to find a higher tier one soon. Otherwise, it’s way too easy for people to read my info,” Aiden thought to himself.
From their conversation, he could guess that these Demon geniuses wanted to capture him and Nellie alive.
If he wasn’t mistaken, this must be WraithGoust’s plan: to control the human genius Reclassers during the Global Reclasser Exchange Tournament.
Honestly, normal people would never guess something like this could happen.
“Let’s attack together, Drew. Finish this quickly,” Demon Philip said, sounding impatient.
No sooner had he finished speaking than the Abyssthe Flame Demon staff in Aiden’s hand lit up again.
This was a battle against Demons. If he gave the enemy a chance to strike first, he would be the fool.
The elemental arrows he’d released earlier had missed. This time, Aiden chose to cast Demon’s Domain immediately.
Normally, he would have started with Ultimate Frost to mess up the enemy’s status.
But now, Ultimate Frost had a different purpose.
Aiden planned to freeze Demon Drew’s body at just the right moment. Only then would he fire his elemental arrows, ensuring they actually caused real damage.
BOOM!
Endless dark energy instantly flooded the entire sewer, completely enveloping Drew and Philip in Demon’s Domain.
But that wasn’t all. Aiden drained a huge amount of mana to activate the Blackfire Cloak’s Blackfire Bind effect.
Then, as fast as he could, he unleashed Thunder’s Wrath.
These two powerful area-of-effect skills dealt devastating damage to everything in the sewer ahead.
However, Aiden’s expression turned grim.
This time, he heard absolutely no screams of pain or cries of agony from the enemy.
It was as if his skills had missed them entirely.
That shouldn’t be possible.
“Even if Demon Drew scattered his body again, those black worms should still be within the range of the skills,” Aiden thought, a frown deepening on his face.
Suddenly, he felt a slight tremor beneath his feet.
A thought suddenly flashed through Aiden’s mind: “Could those black worms not only swim fast through water, but also burrow deep underground?”
