Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 181: Tension [1] - Visitors

Chapter 181: Tension [1] – Visitors
Liora couldn’t possibly know why the number of Evolution Points required to enhance her stats had increased yet again.
Perhaps it was because getting rid of the world’s suppression was becoming increasingly difficult as her strength increased.
Or perhaps, it was because a further increase in her Base Stats would bring her strength to the Lesser Devil stage—a truly massive transformation.
Either way, Liora had no one to complain to. She could only make do with this information and plan her future around these conditions.
“The war on Hope City and my adventures in the Ancient Beast Wilderness have brought my Evolution Points to more than thirty thousand.”
“If I want to enhance all of my Base Stats and reach the Lesser Devil stage, I need a little more than five thousand Evolution Points. This is absolutely doable.”
In fact, this wouldn’t take her a lot of time.
Even though the war had stopped and no more beasts would attack Hope City, the Ancient Beast Wilderness was fairly close.
As long as Liora wanted to, she could pay the beasts there a visit and turn them into nutrients for her own growth.
The only thing she had to worry about was the movements of the mastermind behind the beasts’ riot.
Thinking of this, Liora couldn’t help but fall into thought.
“As expected. So much time has passed, and that person has yet to react. It seems that the attack on Hope City was merely an afterthought of theirs.”
“At the very least, the failure to break through the city and the fall of the Chimera was not enough to force them to take action.”, she judged, and this perfectly matched her initial expectations.
The mastermind either didn’t care enough or was simply unwilling to suffer the consequences that their actions would cause.
“No matter what, this is a good thing for me. All I lack at the moment is time. The longer the stalemate between humans and beasts lasts, the more beneficial it is for me…”, Liora thought and shook her head.
—
Things indeed went as Liora had predicted.
The arrival of the Infernal Army caused the atmosphere in the city to turn tense.
The shouts of Hope City’s residents could reach her ears from time to time, as they were carried away by the armored soldiers, under the pretense that they colluded with the rioting beasts.
Although the residents wanted to argue and fight back, they were unable to. The difference in strength and organization between the two sides was massive.
After all, the Infernal Army only targeted the ordinary, weaker residents.
As for the nobles? The Infernal Army consciously avoided them, unwilling to mess with them unless necessary.
This meant that the nobles would not stand up and defend the residents for no reason.
Offending the Infernal Army and its Commander for a bunch of “untouchables” was not worth it in the noble’s opinion.
As Liora stood on the porch of the third floor of her residence, everything that occurred fell right into her eyes.
Since her residence was close to the city’s center, a gift personally given by Duchess Lobelia, such cases should have been rare.
Yet, although this was an area mostly inhabited by nobles and other people with a high status, the Infernal Army’s unreasonable actions were still quite frequent.
But to Liora’s surprise, the many soldiers spread everywhere except the buildings close to her residence.
It was as if the area within a range of a few hundred meters around her had been regarded as forbidden ground by them, with no single soldier daring to come near it.
“It seems that my morning encounter with that team of True Knights has become known by the army’s leading figures. Sure enough, this army is anything but ordinary.”
“Although their actions are unreasonable and completely out of line, the information passes quickly through their ranks, and they know how to react accordingly.”, Liora shook her head and sighed.
Indeed, the strength and hierarchy displayed by the Infernal Army proved why it was the Iron Armor Empire’s most famous army.
Liora silently sat on the porch, her eyes wandering throughout the city, and surveyed it.
Her eyes seemed able to penetrate through the many towering buildings, reaching every last inch of this land.
Everything that happened there fell into her eyes, giving her a high-level view of what was taking place in the city.
It was only half an hour later that Liora finally rose to her feet. Not because she was bored, but because she sensed that a few people had gathered outside her residence.
As she climbed down the spiral staircase, a loud knock came from the door, followed by the sound of the door being opened.
When she reached the first floor, Liora’s gaze inevitably landed on the visitors.
At the front was a muscular man with a rough appearance, while on either side of his back stood an armored soldier, whose identity was impossible to make out.
Each of the soldiers carried a chest, which seemed to have been specifically reinforced using precious and powerful materials.
Not far away from the three of them stood Alpha, who had followed Liora’s instructions and opened the door for them.
The rough man in the lead seemed surprised by Alpha’s existence.
With his strength, he could detect that her strength had reached the Great Knight rank.
And judging by the threat that she brought to him, it was clear that she was not an ordinary Great Knight.
“It seems that the identity of this person is more complicated than everyone thinks. How could a wandering Knight have a Great Knight as a servant?”, the Commander thought.
He couldn’t help but wonder whether Liora was a princess who had secretly left the capital to play in the outside world.
Of course, he instantly dismissed that thought.
Considering the Royal Family’s instructions and orders, this didn’t make sense.
Many thoughts raced through the Commander’s mind, but on the surface, his expression remained the same, steady and unmoving.
He only briefly glanced at Alpha and nodded his head, as if showing respect to a person of the same rank, before he shifted his attention to Liora.
Immediately, his pupils shrank.
