Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 182: Tension [2] - Gift

Chapter 182: Tension [2] – Gift
Before long, the Commander and his two subordinates were invited to come into the building.
Soon, the Commander sat opposite Liora, while his subordinates remained standing right behind him.
Similarly, Alpha had also stayed behind Liora’s back, as if mirroring their movements.
The person to break the awkward silence in the room was the Commander.
A wide smile flashed across his rough face as he spoke up:
“I’ve heard a lot regarding Your Excellency from Duchess Lobelia. But now that I’ve seen you in person, I can only say that Your Excellency is far more extraordinary than I initially thought.”, he praised Liora.
Although his words were flattering, when coupled with the air of authority that he subconsciously exuded and his rough appearance, he looked more like an elder praising the younger generation than a slimy subordinate.
Hearing this, Liora nodded her head.
“I’ve also heard a lot about the Infernal Army. It truly deserves to be the sharpest sword in the hands of the Royal Family.”, she replied with praise of her own.
Praising people was free.
As long as it helped her achieve her goals, Liora didn’t mind putting up such false pretenses.
However, after the two exchanged a few more words and the Commander showed no signs of changing the subject, she couldn’t help but take the initiative to ask.
“I wonder why the Commander has chosen to visit me. Considering the dire situation on the border, I don’t believe that you’re so idle as to come here and chat with a mere wandering Knight like me.”, Liora shook her head and asked a pointed question.
Her words seemed rude and somewhat rash, evidenced by how the two Great Knights behind the Commander flinched and looked ready to take action.
But the Commander didn’t show any signs of getting angry.
Instead, he motioned the two Knights to stand with a wave of his hand behind his back, while he laughed loudly.
“Haha! As expected, great people like Your Excellency are unwilling to waste time. It’s only with such people that I enjoy conversing.”
“After all, as Great Knights, it would be better to work hard to improve our strength than wasting time speaking like those useless, dandy nobles.”, the Commander laughed, as if he was truly satisfied with Liora’s response.
“Since that’s the case, I’ll be straightforward.”, he added and clapped his hands.
Immediately, his two subordinates moved and placed the chests they were carrying on the table in front of Liora.
Then, the Commander explained.
“The actions of Your Excellency have greatly helped both the Iron Armor Empire and the human race as a whole. When Your Majesty heard of your achievements, he immediately ordered that you be rewarded, ignoring the dissatisfaction of several nobles.”
As he said this, the Commander leaned forward and pressed his index finger against one of the two chests.
The chest was not very wide, less than a meter, but it was surprisingly long, more than three meters in total.
When the Commander’s finger touched it, a clicking sound echoed, and the chest opened, revealing the contents inside.
It was a weapon.
More than two meters long and with a sharp, curved crimson blade, it was a halberd with an imposing appearance.
Seeing Liora’s gaze land on it, the Commander commented from the side:
“For us Great Knights, finding weapons that can be used is nearly impossible, much less ones that can enhance our combat power. Your Majesty also knows this, which is why he specifically asked me to present this to Your Excellency as a gift.”
“This halberd is a Blessed Weapon, which can be used even by a King of Knights.”
The Commander’s words seemed boastful. But as Liora’s consciousness swept through the halberd and she inspected it, she understood that he was indeed not lying.
Compared to the scepter used by Diana to fight Marquis Lavender and the blessed sword wielded by Eleanor, the halberd before her was many times more powerful.
Liora guessed that this halberd would be useful even if she were to regain her full Lesser Devil power.
This made her a little excited, but it also made her understand that she may have underestimated the three major factions of this world.
For the Royal Family to be willing to part with such a powerful weapon meant that they possessed something stronger.
“Perhaps the Royal Family possesses a True Devil-level weapon. No wonder that unknown True Devil has yet to fully conquer this world.”, she realized.
The yearning in Liora’s eyes was not hidden, and the Commander keenly captured it. With a smile still plastered across his face, he moved his hand and lightly tapped on the second chest.
Unlike the previous one, this was far smaller, small enough that one could hold it in their hands with ease.
However, the materials used to forge it seemed even more extraordinary than the one that housed the halberd. Liora only recognized a few of them, but even these were worth more than a Baronry.
As the chest’s lid was slowly removed, the Commander explained once again:
“This one is not from the Royal Family, but a gift of my own. As the Commander of the Infernal Army, I’ve always hoped that other Great Knights would stand up and help the human race fight against the menacing beasts.”
“Now that Your Excellency has saved Hope City, it’s only proper that I give you something too.”, he chuckled.
While he was speaking, the chest continued opening.
As it did, bright crimson light shot out from the rapidly expanding gap in its lid.
Before long, the whole building was covered in a deep crimson color, as if the gate to Hell had been opened.
The item inside was revealed.
A red orb floated within the chest, exuding an overwhelming aura, seemingly existing in a higher dimension.
If the people of the Holy Church were here, they would recognize that this orb was a Godhead, the gift bestowed upon humans by the Gods.
But Liora was far more familiar with another one of its names—Bloodline Seed.
