Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 233: Treasure

Chapter 233: Treasure
No blood flowed out of the True Heart Devil’s open wounds.
The particles making up his body instead disappeared one after another, as if exiled into Nothingness.
Seeing this, the True Heart Devil instantly understood that his previous guess had been correct.
This was indeed the infamous power of Nothingness, a power feared by many powerful beings across the Heavens.
He glanced at Liora, only to find that she had unknowingly bridged the gap between them.
Seeing this, he hurriedly opened his mouth and tried to speak:
“Wait! Aren’t you curious about why I attacked you? As long as you sign a Devil Contract and swear not to kill me, I can—”
Unfortunately, the True Heart Devil’s plea proved meaningless.
Just like before, when he had sneak-attacked Liora, another attack interrupted his words.
It was just that, different from last time, this attack now came from Liora.
With an indifferent expression, she ignored the words of the True Heart Devil, having already decided to kill him.
Hence, she wasn’t interested in his offer.
Under her control, the sphere above her head flew out, rushing towards the enemy like a falling meteor.
Its power was overwhelming, while the True Heart Devil had already been injured not long ago.
As a result, he was unable to resist.
He could only watch helplessly as the gray sphere landed on his body and began wiping out his existence bit by bit, particle by particle.
“No! I don’t accept this!”, he couldn’t help but scream in his final moments.
But ultimately, his pleas for mercy and curses were for naught.
Only a few seconds later, the final traces of his existence had vanished.
Liora watched the True Heart Devil’s body being wiped out with an unreadable expression.
She showed neither joy nor sadness, but instead remained calm and continued scanning her surroundings for threats.
It was only after she confirmed that her opponent was dead and no traces of him remained that she let her guard down and relaxed.
Wiping the imaginary sweat off her forehead, she controlled the sphere of Nothingness to disperse, as Eclipse was deactivated.
Only she stood alone in the dark space, together with the frail remaining soul of the True Devil.
“As expected. With my many abilities, I should be quite powerful even among True Devils. Judging from his final outburst, this person must roughly possess the combat power of a peak True Devil.”
“Yet, I was able to kill him quite easily.”
“If that’s the case, my strength is even stronger than I initially expected.”, Liora whispered.
Although the earlier battle had been quite brief and there had not been much back and forth, it had allowed her to showcase almost all of her newly awakened abilities.
Therefore, Liora could roughly estimate her current strength, as well as her future potential.
If she had to describe it with a single sentence, she would only say that she had a bright future!
While praising herself, part of her mind shifted its focus to the words that the True Devil had attempted to utter before his death.
Although she had ruthlessly killed him without any hesitation at that moment, his words had indeed piqued her interest.
“I have a hunch that this person did not attack me merely for fun or to simply devour my soul. Rather, it seems that he targeted me for a very specific reason.”
Coupled with the earlier offer the True Heart Devil had made, she couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
A faint guess arose within her heart.
“Is there indeed some kind of valuable treasure hidden in the world of Knights? But what kind of treasure can a low-level world have that can force this person to become my enemy?”, she couldn’t help but wonder.
In fact, before she departed from the world of Knights, she had paid special attention and had not forgotten to scan over it more than a dozen times.
The reason for this was quite simple: to search for any treasures, suspicious people, or anything that could prove of value.
After all, this was a world that had been visited by two invaders.
Who knew what secrets it held?
What if she were able to obtain another powerful inheritance?
Unfortunately, the results of her investigation were lacking.
She had discovered nothing of value, much less anything that could excite her.
But just when Liora combed through her memories, she suddenly recalled something.
Immediately, she reached into the Space Orb and took an item out.
It was a weapon, shaped like a giant halberd with a terrifying and oppressive appearance.
Though it was only a weapon and didn’t possess any consciousness or intelligence, it emanated an aura that reached the Lesser Devil stage.
If a Lesser Devil held this weapon, it might be possible for them to contend against a weaker True Devil for a short period of time.
Liora remembered that this weapon was the Bloodforge Halberd that the Commander of the Infernal Army had given her while they were still in Hope City.
It had been mentioned that it was a gift from the Royal Family, given to Liora for her great achievements during the beasts’ riot.
Yet, although this was a powerful weapon that could prove useful even for the current Liora, she had not put it to use so far.
“As something given by the Commander, it’s hard to confirm whether there is any hidden means left behind.”
“Moreover, blessed weapons are forged using the power of Bloodline Seeds, an item created by the Zerg Hive.”
“How could I have possibly used such a weapon when it might backfire the very next moment?”, Liora questioned.
But it was exactly because of this that she had ignored something unusual.
During her battle with the Zerg, the Zerg Hive had been forced to take back all of the power she had dispersed throughout the world and briefly regain her strength.
This held true for the Bloodline Seeds, and it was also true for the blessed weapons created by the Holy Church.
Yet strangely, the Bloodforge Halberd was still there. It had not been destroyed and was still completely intact.
Liora had subconsciously ignored this problem, having almost forgotten about this item’s existence.
However, as she heard the True Heart Devil’s words, its image couldn’t help but emerge in her mind.
For some reason, she had a hunch that this object was the treasure that her opponent had been searching for.
Thinking of this, Liora couldn’t help but observe the halberd closely, trying to find any clues.
