Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 236: Overwrite

Chapter 236: Overwrite
[Overwrite: Using a part of the target’s existence as a medium, the user can ’overwrite’ the very concept of their existence.
The user’s appearance and aura are altered accordingly, while temporarily gaining one of their target’s abilities.
Warning:
Powerful beings can see through the user’s disguise and detect their true identity.
This ability can only be used on True Devil-level or lower beings.]
[Cost: 65,000 Evolution Points]
…
As the Fire Elemental’s core melted and seeped into her body, Liora’s structure began to change.
First, her skin and bones transformed into blazing flames that tumbled violently, and then she rapidly grew in size.
Her form slowly but surely approached that of the Fire Elemental, until finally, their figures completely overlapped.
In the blink of an eye, Liora seemed to have turned into a Fire Elemental, looking exactly the same as the one she had just killed.
Not only her external appearance, but even her aura was identical, both in terms of strength and frequency.
At the same time, pieces of information poured into her mind, while a few lines of words flashed in her field of vision.
…
[Fire Transformation: The user can transform into fire elements for a short period of time. In such a state, the user becomes almost invulnerable to physical attacks and targeted skills.]
…
This was an ability that all True Devil-level Fire Elementals possessed.
The only reason why the Fire Elemental she had just killed had not activated it was not because it didn’t want to, but because it had been caught off guard.
Liora’s actions had been extremely quick and, above all else, very decisive.
Thus, it had been left with no time to react
Sensing her current state and finding that she looked exactly the same as her opponent, Liora couldn’t help but nod her head in satisfaction.
“It’s worth the Evolution Points I spent to create this ability. With its blessing, getting out of this place should be easier.”, she murmured.
That’s right.
Liora had not created Overwrite to increase her combat power, but rather to improve her survival capabilities.
Most of all, she had created it to more easily fit into this valley and search for a way to leave.
She could be certain that with the identity of a Fire Elemental, doing so would be far easier.
Liora nodded her head and was about to clean up the aftermath of the earlier battle.
But just then, her movements halted.
She sensed a dozen burning auras rushing towards this place, as if they had been alerted.
Before long, their owners arrived and landed on the ground, revealing their identities.
They were a bunch of Fire Elementals, completely composed of fire elements rather than flesh and blood.
They looked roughly the same as Liora’s current appearance, except that they looked far less imposing and were much weaker.
These people were only equivalent to Lesser Devils, and since they were not actual Devils, they were fairly weak among beings in this stage.
In Liora’s opinion, most Kings of Knights could suppress them with ease if they were to ever face each other.
As she observed these creatures, Liora saw them bow their head in respect and look at her with admiration and reverence.
Clearly, the Overwrite ability had worked as expected, and these creatures could not sense that their companion had unknowingly been replaced.
Still, faint confusion flashed in their eyes as they surveyed their surroundings.
One of them hesitated for a few seconds, but finally mustered up their courage and questioned:
“Lord, what happened? Did any of these outsiders invade the Sacred Lands again?”, they asked, as they glanced around and scanned over the aftermath of the earlier battle.
Hearing this question, Liora frowned.
For a moment, the atmosphere in this place froze.
Her aura grew stronger and oppressed the person who had just spoken up as she opened her mouth:
“Are you questioning me? Is what I’m doing any of your business?”, she asked a pointed question of her own.
Due to her disguise, her voice had turned hoarse and emotionless, entirely different from her normal one.
Yet, the sharp murderous intent in her tone was apparent.
In response, the Fire Elemental who questioned her shrank back. It shook its head repeatedly and bowed its head to express its obedience, while it tried to argue:
“No! No! It’s just that the orders of the Ancestor stated that—”
Before it could finish its words, however, Liora had raised her hand and attacked it.
She didn’t use any abilities, nor did she operate her demonic energy to empower herself.
Yet, when her attack landed on the Fire Elemental, it instantly shattered its blazing body.
Her hand moved through the flames and dug even deeper, plucking its core effortlessly.
As she took her hand back, Liora’s eyes scanned the rest of the Fire Elementals.
Though shocked by her sudden and swift actions, they reacted fairly quickly.
Their expressions became even more respectful, and they lowered their heads even further, as if afraid that any movement would anger her and result in their death.
But to their dismay, Liora merely clicked her tongue and remained silent, her eyes seemingly glued onto them.
This made their fear even more intense, afraid that they would meet their demise the very next moment.
Although they had heard of their superior’s fiery mood and ruthless actions before, they had never expected that they would be so murderous.
Immediately, several of them began to wonder whether they should request to be transferred to another area.
Liora did not know that these powerful Fire Elementals, who would have brought great terror in some weaker worlds, had such ordinary thoughts.
If she knew, she wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
While playing with the core, she continued staring at these people with an “arrogant” expression.
But unbeknownst to everyone, her mind secretly moved.
The faint soul flickering within the core was affected. Slowly but surely, it was pulled out and was integrated with her.
