Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 247: Books

Chapter 247: Books
That’s right.
This helpless and frail white mist was nothing but the soul of her former enemy.
Although some time had passed since his death, Liora had yet to devour it and convert it into Evolution Points.
“I can sense that devouring it would indeed grant me several hundred thousand points.”
“But at the moment, it seems that I don’t lack such things.”
Although she had consumed several Evolution Points during the creation of Overwrite, there were still quite a lot left.
If she lacked anything and wished to create a new ability, she could always choose to do so.
Even though the extra points would certainly help, they were hardly enough to allow the created ability to undergo a massive change.
“Moreover, I can always choose to devour it later. Now that it has fallen into my hands, there’s no way for it to escape.”, Liora thought.
With that in mind, she placed the soul away, just like she had done to the cores of the Fire Elementals before it.
It was just that, unlike the cores, which she had casually tossed into the Space Orb without a care, she chose to cautiously put the soul away.
Secretly, Liora had a hunch that this soul would one day prove useful to her. And as always, she chose to trust her intuition.
Following this, Liora shifted her focus to the final part of her harvest.
It was the bag that the Gale Devil carried, the space treasure in which she had found the Inferno Item.
But besides that, it contained several other equally valuable items.
Liora took the bag and peeked inside before she began taking items one after another.
Weapons, pieces of metal, unknown objects, and even books…
One after another, they were all taken out, forming a small mountain in front of her.
Though the room was vast, built with large Devils in mind, it was still difficult for it to hold everything.
Liora had already expected this, having taken a glimpse into the space treasure before.
Yet, seeing all these items in person was different.
“Did that guy plunder the treasure room of some True Devil?”, she questioned before she hastily shook her head:
“No! There are only a few True Devils who possess such a large number of treasures.”
“If these items belong to someone, they have to, at the very least, be Dukes.”, she judged.
Just like the True Devils were respectfully referred to as “Lords” by weaker Devils, Greater Devils were also referred to as “Dukes”.
Above them were Archdevils with the title “Grand Dukes”, while Ancient Devils earned the moniker “Ancestors”.
Just from the difference in their respective titles, the gap in their status and strength was also apparent.
However, Liora didn’t mull over this for long.
These were far away from the current her.
At the moment, the strongest beings that she should reasonably come into contact with were Greater Devils.
Involving herself with any being stronger than that was bound to place her into danger and was thus not advised.
Shaking her head, Liora’s focus shifted back to reality.
Her eyes wandered through the many items, and she began going through them one after another.
Liora had to sigh that she was fortunate to have become a True Devil.
Otherwise, if she were still a Lesser Devil, going through all these things would have been nearly impossible.
After all, she not only needed to look at them, but she also had to inspect them closely while combing through her bloodline memories, matching them with the objects in it to find their true identities.
As she did, many unfamiliar terms emerged in Liora’s mind.
Devil Jade.
Soul-Tearing Sword.
Blood-Extinguishing Array.
Fire…
…
Names popped up in her mind one after another, accompanied by their respective abilities and uses.
Some of them were items that could be absorbed to enhance one’s demonic energy, like the Fire Elemental’s cores; others were precious metals that could be used to engrave arrays and forge weapons, while others had more unique yet powerful functions, like the Teleportation Jade.
Liora quickly went through them.
She set some of those objects aside and kept them for later use, while she tossed the rest of them in the Space Orb.
Before long, almost every item had been accounted for.
Or to be more accurate, every item besides two books and one square-shaped token.
One of these books was thick with a black cover and covered in dense, intricate, but tiny Devil Runes.
Although there was no title on its cover, its name inexplicably appeared in Liora’s mind as her eyes landed on it.
“An Introduction to Devil Runes. Intermediate Tome.”
Just from that name, the contents of the book were obvious.
Though Liora was slightly disappointed that it was not an earthshaking ability or technique, she soon calmed down.
“This thing is also quite helpful. Besides the inheritance of Devil Runes that I obtained in Crucible, I’ve yet to come across anything else regarding this field.”
“So far, I’ve been studying Devil Runes on my own, barely assisted by my bloodline memories and my research of the mysterious blood.”
As such, Liora’s formation and Devil Runes skills had stagnated, failing to keep up with her strength.
Evidence of this was that she could fight a True Devil and even kill them, but she could not set up an array to trap them, much less kill them.
This meant that her formation skills, which had once allowed her to leapfrog in battle, were no longer her trump card.
Fortunately, this book appeared at the right time.
Picking it up, Liora carefully placed it aside, planning to go through it later.
Following this, her gaze landed on the second book.
Unlike the other one, the appearance of this book was ordinary and unassuming, without any effects or an odd appearance.
It looked like an ordinary book, and a badly kept one at that.
However, Liora would not be fooled by such a display.
Based on its position within the space treasure and everything else, she understood that this was perhaps one of the most valuable items that the Gale Devil had on him.
Thinking of this, she stretched her hand and controlled the book to fly into her palm.
As she flipped through its pages, she soon understood what this book was about.
