Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 248: Devil Techniques

Chapter 248: Devil Techniques
“Four Elements True Devil Method.”, Liora whispered the book’s title.
Similar to other creatures in the Heavens, like Knights, Devils could also practice techniques in order to improve their strength.
The reason why this was such a rare occurrence was partly because few Devils practiced them since it was far more convenient to devour souls, and partly because lower-level Devils did not have access to the suitable techniques.
It was simply impossible to obtain them in the Crucible, meaning that a Devil had to come to the Demon World in order to have a chance to obtain them.
However, this didn’t mean that getting to the Demon World was the end of the matter.
To obtain a suitable technique, a Devil had to either kill a stronger enemy and hope that they carried one on them, or purchase it by spending a large number of Soul Stones.
Therefore, it was actually quite rare for Lesser Devils to practice a technique.
It was only when one became a True Devil, further awakened their bloodline memories, and thus inherited a suitable technique that most Devils would begin practicing.
This also included Liora, who had so far advanced mindlessly through the swallowing of souls and the assistance of the System.
“However, this is no longer as suitable for me.”, Liora muttered as she went through the book’s contents and matched them with the information she already knew.
Unlike the previous stages, Devils at the True Devil stage could no longer practice recklessly.
Although an enhancement in physical strength and demonic energy could indeed help them improve their strength, it was no longer possible to advance further by merely focusing on these.
“According to this book and my bloodline memories, a Devil at the True Devil stage needs to dig deep into their bloodline and get familiar with the concept it represents.”
“The fastest way is to delve into one’s abilities and become increasingly proficient in them. Another, less popular way is to observe the outside world and try to comprehend its mysteries.”
All of the above sounded vague and incomprehensible, but Liora understood what those words meant.
For example, a Gale Devil, like the one she had captured, should try to get closer to the wind elements, understand them, and thus use them to enhance their strength.
Another example was Liora herself.
By devouring World Origin and entering the strange state of merging with the Will of the World, she could enhance her perception of the world’s operation and dig deeper into her bloodline secrets.
Of course, besides these two options, there was another way for a Devil to more easily study their bloodline.
That was, by practicing related techniques.
As Liora flipped through the pages, she gained an understanding of the way in which the Four Elements Method achieved this.
“According to this technique, the concept it represents is none other than that of the Four Elements: Wind, Fire, Earth, Water.”
“As long as a Devil’s bloodline is related to at least one of the above, they can practice this technique and use it to advance.”
“The way to do so is fairly simple: by devouring the four elements of the world or items related to them, the Devil will gain the corresponding insights.”, Liora whispered as her fingers traced against the book’s worn-out pages.
“At the same time, the user will gain an extra ability: Elemental Affinity.”
Techniques not only brought insights but also granted related abilities.
The easiest way to judge how strong a technique was was by going through those abilities.
“The Four Elements Method is quite strong among True Devil techniques. Although Elemental Affinity sounds simple, it is enough to help a Devil’s strength transform.”, Liora judged, having reached the last page of the book.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t planning to practice it.
Not only because her bloodline was not related to the four elements and thus practicing it would give her no insights, but also because she had a better and more suitable technique.
With her advancement, Liora had inherited her own technique, a technique specifically created to help World Devourers like her advance.
Therefore, she didn’t lack a technique at the moment.
“Still, this thing might be useful in the future. Whether it is exchanging it for Soul Stones or bestowing it on a subordinate or servant to practice, it has some uses.”
Moreover, no one said that a True Devil could only practice a single technique.
If they had enough time, there was nothing stopping them from practicing several of them at the same time, similarly to what Liora had tried to do in the world of Knights.
Of course, this was far away from Liora at the moment.
She had not even begun practicing her inherited technique, much less had the time to spend time on others.
Thinking of this, Liora pushed this matter aside, her focus returning to reality.
Once it did, her eyes landed on the final item she had obtained during her recent adventures.
It was a token, square in shape, with a grand image engraved on each of its four corners.
As Liora controlled it to get closer, those images were revealed before her eyes.
A raging sea was painted on the top right corner, while on the opposite side stood a trembling volcano.
At the bottom, a breeze of green wind and a high mountain were painted respectively, seemingly mirroring each other.
Coupled with the earlier technique, it didn’t take one to be a genius to understand that this thing was related to the four elements, too.
Immediately, a suspicion that Liora had for quite some time subconsciously emerged in her mind:
“Did that Gale Devil obtain the inheritance of some powerful Devil?”
The strange way in which he appeared in the Inferno Valley, through teleporting in the middle of the sky before falling down, and the bizarre items he carried with him were all pointing to that.
“If that’s the case, the reason why he has so many precious items despite being so weak can be explained.”, Liora nodded her head.
She was not surprised.
The world was very vast, and given enough time, all inexplicable and unexplainable things were possible.
Having experienced so much, Liora would hardly be shocked by such an “ordinary” thing.
Of course, this didn’t mean that she was not interested in the suspected inheritance.
With faint curiosity, she reached out and grabbed the token, letting it land on top of her palm.
Immediately, she felt several opposing sensations.
