Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 251: Visitor

Chapter 251: Visitor
From the time when the Gale Devil died to the moment the green light appeared and tried to escape together with his soul, less than a split second had passed.
For other people, it would have been hard to catch a glimpse of the light, much less step forward to stop it.
This included Lesser Devils, and would also be true for ordinary True Devils.
Yet, although Liora had just advanced, her combat power and means went beyond common sense.
The moment the green light appeared, she instantly reacted.
She didn’t choose to use her physical body to catch the light.
Instead, her mind moved, and the Nothingness that had yet to dissipate shook.
Like a rising wave, it defied common sense and chased after the escaping soul.
The green light was quick. But the power of Nothingness was even faster.
Before the soul could leave the demi-plane of the Space Orb and escape, the Nothingness had already caught up with it and engulfed it.
The indescribable gray substance washed over the soul, causing the forward momentum of the green light to come to an abrupt stop.
Slowly but surely, its brilliance became dimmer until it finally began to crack.
Cracking noises echoed one after another before a loud bang was heard.
The next second, a shrill cry rang in Liora’s ears as she watched the light disperse. Only the Gale Devil’s soul remained floating, surrounded by the power of Nothingness.
Just like earlier, she reacted very quickly once again.
The moment the green light crumbled, she took back her power and prevented the Nothingness from engulfing and wiping out the soul.
Under her control, the Nothingness soon vanished, while the helpless soul flew towards her and stopped above her hand.
As the illusory silhouette was reflected in her crimson eyes, Liora nodded her head in satisfaction.
“This guy was not lying. Although that green light only existed for a few seconds and was not too powerful, I can be certain that it is the means left behind by a True Devil.”
“Just like he previously admitted, this guy must belong to some powerful family.”, she realized.
In fact, she had already known that this was most likely the case.
Though she didn’t have any ability to detect whether someone was lying, considering the large gap in strength between them, Liora could roughly judge whether the Gale Devil was telling the truth.
Part of the reason why she chose to kill him was exactly because of that.
After all, a mere Lesser Devil was nothing.
But a Lesser Devil with the backing of a True Devil was different. If he were lucky and possessed some hidden trump card, it was very likely that he would be able to escape once she set him free.
This was different from Diana, who had no way to escape her control.
If she chose to keep the Gale Devil around her, he was bound to become a hidden danger sooner or later.
Perhaps until his very death, the Gale Devil would have never guessed that his decision to reveal his powerful background had not only not scared Liora, but had instead prompted her to kill him.
Such was life. Unexpected and somewhat unreasonable.
“Let’s see…”, Liora whispered as she cast a glance at the Gale Devil’s soul and tossed it into her mouth.
Immediately, it was converted into Evolution Points under the System’s power.
However, considering the opponent’s limited strength, Liora was hardly interested in taking a look at them.
What piqued her interest, instead, was the memories emerging in her mind—the memories of the Gale Devil.
Gale Family. Wind City. Trial Palace. Inheritance.
As Liora digested those memories, a general outline of what had occurred was constructed in her mind.
“The situation is roughly the same as what this guy said earlier. It’s just that he hid some things regarding the Trial Place…”, Liora muttered.
The information she obtained confirmed her earlier suspicions.
Upon obtaining the Four Elements Token, the Gale Devil had obtained a piece of information, telling him that this item could lead him to another, far greater inheritance.
No further instructions were given, with the message only asking him to wait for that time to come.
“Sure enough, this must be the plan of some powerful Devil. Do they wish to lead people to their so-called inheritance?”, Liora thought before she finally shook her head.
It was difficult for her to fully analyze the situation with the current information available to her. She could only have faint guesses, as well as unsubstantiated suspicions.
Shifting her gaze towards the Four Elements Token in her hand, Liora took one last, deeper look at it before putting it away.
Then, she cast one more glance in Diana’s direction and stepped out of the Space Orb.
—
The moment Liora returned to the inn, she was about to sit down and begin practicing the technique she had obtained from her bloodline memories.
But before she could do so, her expression changed.
She was partly surprised and partly intrigued.
However, she quickly regained her calmness one second later.
“It seems that my arrival in the city has already alerted the powerful beings in the city. That is to be expected.”, she thought.
“What I didn’t expect, however, was that it would lead to such a quick reaction. It has not been long since I set foot into Bloodflower City, but there’s already someone coming to visit me.”
Although the other party concealed their aura to the best of their ability, Liora’s perception was superb.
Thus, she instantly sensed that a True Devil was currently having a conversation with Alpha, clearly waiting for her to come out.
From this, it was fairly obvious that they didn’t hold any malice at the moment, or at the very least, that they were hiding it.
This was also the reason why Alpha had not immediately informed Liora of their visit, but instead chose to wait for her return.
Guessing this, Liora nodded her head, knowing that Alpha had made the correct decision.
If she had chosen to inform her immediately, the other person would have perhaps noticed it. By that time, it was difficult to say for certain that they would remain as harmless.
Thinking of this, Liora understood that now was not the time to practice.
It would be better to greet the visitor instead.
Most importantly, it would be better to find the reason behind their visit.
