Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 266: Extortion

Chapter 266: Extortion
“Okay…”
“Since Your Excellency has already agreed, I believe that your grievances with the Violence Lord have now been resolved.”
“We won’t keep you busy for any longer…”
Half an hour later, the Slave Lord looked at Liora and spoke.
Although her tone was polite and her words said otherwise, the annoyance and anger on her face were abundantly clear.
Not only her, but the several True Devils behind her were also the same, looking as if Liora had murdered their parents.
Liora was hardly surprised by their reactions.
She understood that the conditions she had put forward had been excessive and were disproportionate to the events that had transpired earlier.
After all, even if she had nothing to do with the Graveplate Devil’s interference, neither she nor her subordinates had suffered any harm.
Rather than say that she was seeking compensation, it would be more accurate to say that she was using this event to extort things from them.
Thus, Liora could understand why these people were angry.
However, she didn’t mind it.
“Moreover, these people are even richer than I expected.”
“Although they look angry and unwilling right now, they still forked out everything I requested.”, Liora thought.
For a moment, she couldn’t help but wonder if the conditions she had set were too light.
But in the end, she shook her head and didn’t speak.
She had already obtained a lot.
There was no reason to push several True Devils any further.
Otherwise, it was unknown whether they would go insane and bombard her with all their trump cards.
Thinking of this, Liora put away the items she had obtained and remained silent.
Seeing this, the True Devils took her silence as agreement.
After they glanced at her one more time, as if to engrave her appearance into their memories, they carried the injured Violence Lord away and rushed towards Bloodflower City.
Liora keenly noticed that Kazrien took one more look at her before leaving, seemingly wanting to say something.
But in the end, he remained silent and followed the rest of the True Devils.
Liora did not believe that he was saddened by the sudden fracture in their “alliance”.
Devils would not be emotional about things like this.
At most, Kazrien felt conflicted about the fact that someone whom he had previously regarded as an equal had not grown strong enough to kill him.
After Liora watched these people go away, she was also about to move, planning to return to Bloodflower City and deal with the battle’s aftermath.
But just then, she halted.
Liora’s senses suddenly captured some changes.
Not in the real world, but within the Space Orb.
It didn’t require much thought to understand what was going on.
Coupled with the earlier events, Liora immediately guessed that the person responsible for these changes was Alpha.
Or rather, it was Alpha’s advancement and transformation that had caused those changes.
Knowing this, Liora did not stay still.
With a move of her mind, a gap opened in the air in front of her. By taking a step forward, she walked into the cloud-filled demi-plane.
—
The moment she walked into the Space Orb, Liora confirmed her previous suspicions.
Sitting at the center of the space was Alpha.
At the moment, her aura was surging, and she was accumulating momentum, while a fist-sized, gray orb was floating right above her head.
Seemingly responding to the increase in Alpha’s strength, the glow on the orb’s surface grew increasingly intense, as if it were working hard to illuminate this place.
Liora had never seen this orb before.
Yet, the moment her eyes landed on it, she realized that it was the mechanical core that had been born inside Alpha.
During their days on the Crucible, Liora had allowed Alpha to devour the ashes of the Unknown, a Bamboo Devil famous for his puppetry skills.
Boosted by Alpha’s own nature, she had awakened several abilities, among which was the birth of this mechanical core.
Acting as if it were her heart, Alpha could now remain alive as long as her core was not broken.
It was based on this ability that she could sever her own body and suffer no harm in the process.
Now that Alpha was advancing again, it was obvious that the mechanical core was transforming one more time.
Alpha’s advancement had been going on for quite some time.
Therefore, it didn’t take long since Liora entered the Space Orb for it to complete.
One moment, the continuous sound of clicking and gears turning was everywhere while Alpha’s aura was rising, and the next, everything subsided.
The noises quieted down. Alpha’s aura retreated.
Everything returned to normal.
Most importantly, the mechanical core shimmered faintly. Following a swoosh, it entered Alpha’s body and became part of it once again.
This seemed to have fully completed Alpha’s transformation.
The next moment, she opened her eyes and got up from the floating clouds, only to see that Liora was next to her and sizing her up.
“Lord.”, she immediately called out and saluted respectfully.
Liora nodded, but was in no rush to respond.
Her consciousness spread out and washed over Alpha, conducting a thorough investigation of her.
Immediately, she discovered that although Alpha had no changes in appearance, this was not true for anything else.
The strength of her mechanical body had improved, quite obviously, but more importantly, she had undergone some bigger, more essential changes.
It was as if she had taken a leap forward in her life level.
For other people and even Devils, such an occurrence was quite common and nothing unexpected.
But to see Alpha experience them, it was inevitable that Liora would be surprised.
“Although Alpha looks and acts like an ordinary person, it doesn’t change the fact that her nature is that of a mechanical puppet.”
“Moreover, since she was created during my stay in the Crucible while I was still weak, the materials used during her creation were hardly of any value.”
Originally, Liora believed that such circumstances would have imposed a certain limit on Alpha.
But she was surprised to find that this was not true.
The fact that Alpha had leapt in life level meant that she was considered a real creature, and the materials used to create her would not limit her future achievements.
“Is this because of the ashes of the Unknown? Or did some kind of change occur during Alpha’s life?”, Liora couldn’t help but wonder.
