Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 274: Spars

Chapter 274: Spars
After the two creatures died, several army members stepped forward and began searching around the location of their death.
Soon, one of them seemed to have found something.
He leaned down and picked up two objects from the ground before he stood up.
As he did, the identity of the two items was revealed.
They were two spars.
Slightly smaller than a human fist and shaped like a dodecahedron, they shone brightly with an orange glint, bouncing off the palm’s surface.
Seemingly knowing that Liora would not recognize them, the Slave Lord took the initiative to explain:
“Although these creatures lack a material form and they are completely mindless, they seem to possess some characteristics of Fire Elementals.”
“After their death, they will leave behind this item.”
“Just like Fire Elemental cores, this thing can be absorbed. However, it has slightly weaker effects than the cores.”, the Slave Lord said and handed the two spars to Liora.
Liora would of course not pretend to be shy.
Without saying anything, she received the spars and placed them away.
During the brief time she was actually in contact with them, she was able to confirm the Slave Lord’s words.
Indeed, she sensed that she could absorb these two items, and doing so would increase her strength.
“But these spars are not very pure. Just like the Slave Lord mentioned, they are far worse in quality than the cores of Fire Elementals.”
This meant that to achieve similar results to absorbing a single Fire Elemental core, one would have to devour multiple such spars of the same level.
Though this made her slightly disappointed, Liora was not too downcast.
It was already an unexpected gain to obtain these things, and hence she didn’t have a reason to be unhappy.
Seeing Liora place them away, the Slave Lord ordered her subordinates to take care of the dead people before turning back to her.
“We are currently at the edge of the Hollow. Usually, the more valuable items are born near the demi-plane’s center.”
“Not only that, but there also lies the Hollow’s origin. If we want to get something out of this place, we’ll have to go there sooner or later.”
Hearing her explanation, Liora did not refuse.
This was something she already knew and was the same for every Hollow.
Since that was the case, she merely nodded her head, choosing to follow the Slave Lord’s lead.
The Slave Lord breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her reaction.
If Liora refused and wanted to act alone, there would be nothing that she could do to stop her.
Fortunately, Liora was not planning to mess up their trip.
Having received her approval and seeing that the army had finished dealing with the corpses and had gotten into a formation again, the Slave Lord gestured for everyone to get going.
Soon, the team judged the direction based on the environment and began making their way towards the Hollow’s center.
—
Although Liora had experienced a lot, she had seldom participated in such events.
For her, going on an adventure was quite a novel experience, much less going on an adventure accompanied by such a large team.
With faint curiosity, she watched the army march forward, bringing destruction on everything along their way.
The colorful flowers were stepped on and ruined, while any plants that blocked their way were ripped apart.
From time to time, the team would stop and gather items.
Rare plants, precious minerals, and several other valuable resources were harvested.
However, they didn’t end up in the army’s possession.
Instead, one after another, they were put away in Liora’s Space Orb.
After all, the two True Devils had agreed beforehand that the spoils of their adventure would belong to her, all except for a single item.
As she sensed the empty space within the Space Orb gradually grow smaller, Liora couldn’t help but let out a smile.
Although these items were not that valuable and were in fact far less useful than what she had obtained from extorting several True Devils, it was a happy thing for her to obtain them.
“The happiest event in one’s life is obtaining something for free.”
“No danger, no effort. Simply getting free things.”, Liora couldn’t help but think as she secretly inspected her gains.
Of course, the lack of danger was relative.
She had not faced any danger, but in order to obtain these items, several members of the slave army had died, falling into the hands of the cunning flaming creatures.
The Slave Lord was slightly distraught upon seeing this.
Each slave’s death meant that several valuable resources had gone down the drain. If she failed to obtain what she wanted from the Hollow, her future would be bleak.
Thus, consciously or unconsciously, the team’s footsteps sped up.
—
In just a few hours, their group had traversed a lot of land.
A demi-plane was quite small compared to a real world, and hence, they rapidly approached the Hollow’s center.
Still, the more Liora witnessed, the more surprised she became.
Besides its relatively small size and the lack of intelligent life, the Hollow looked like a completely real world with its own operating rules.
Exactly because of that, Liora’s interest was piqued.
“According to rumors, the Ruler of the 173rd Layer of the Demon World is called Hollow Ancestor. It’s because of their influence that the birth of Hollows is possible.”, she recalled.
“In the entire Layer, there should be thousands, if not millions, of such Hollows. If every single one of them is so ’real’, the power required to achieve this is unimaginable.”
From such a small thing, Liora was able to roughly judge the power of Archdevils and Ancient Devils.
Unfathomable—this was the only term she could use to describe such beings, knowing full well that she was very far from being able to achieve such a thing.
Let alone now, even if she became a Greater Devil, Liora would still be a long way away.
