Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 281: Sudden Change

Chapter 281: Sudden Change
Liora noticed that their state was even worse than hers.
In particular, affected by the two Archdevils’ aura, Alpha’s face had turned pale while her whole body trembled.
Seeing her like this, Liora immediately took action. With a move of her mind, her demonic energy wrapped around Alpha and protected her from the two Archdevils’ influence.
Her actions broke the silence of this place. Seemingly sensing her arrival, the Slave Lord and her five subordinates woke up.
Their eyes were filled with shock and excitement as they did. They exchanged glances with each other, seemingly secretly communicating.
It took a few moments for their conversation to end. When it did, the Slave Lord looked at Liora and spoke up:
“It seems that I was wrong. This Hollow does not have one Vessel, but two.”
“If I’m not wrong, these two Archdevil beings should have fought near this place. At the end, they both met their demise.”
“The Ruler’s power, perhaps attracted by their aura, used them as a carrier to create this Hollow. No wonder the desert and those creatures were so bizarre.”, the Slave Lord explained.
In fact, her explanation was hardly needed.
Liora had actually analyzed and realized even more things, perhaps things that the Slave Lord did not discover or was simply unwilling to say.
From her observation, the two Archdevils did not die at the hands of each other as the Slave Lord claimed.
The Archdevil’s body was still intact, while the core of the Fire Elemental had suffered no damage at all. Not even a scratch was left on either of them.
In Liora’s opinion, it was fairly obvious that these two did not die after a fight, but as a result of a soul attack.
“Who is this powerful, able to kill two Archdevils with a soul attack?”
“And, considering the lack of any traces left behind, it is clear that they did not expend much effort to kill them…”, Liora couldn’t help but ponder.
The Slave Lord could not know her thoughts.
Seeing Liora remain silent and fall deep in thought, she mistakenly thought that she was considering something else.
“Don’t worry. As we agreed before, I only need one of these two items. I won’t break our agreement for no reason.”
“I only want the core. You can have the corpse.”, she said, and as if she felt that this was not enough, she gritted her teeth and added:
“The core is indeed more valuable than the corpse and the items we collected outside. To make it up to you, I’m willing to compensate you once we leave the Hollow and return to Bloodflower City.”
Liora did not have the time to interrupt her. Even she was surprised by the decisive and generous attitude shown by the Slave Lord.
However, she didn’t ponder for long.
“Whether she is sincere or she wants to get out of the Hollow and renege on her debts, it doesn’t matter.”
“At the end of the day, I hold the biggest advantage in our agreement.”, she thought, sensing the lack of any binding effect of the Devil Contract on her.
Just like every single contract she had signed in the past, this one had long been invalidated.
This meant that even if the Slave Lord had any other malicious thoughts, Liora could always attack her.
Many thoughts raced through her mind. But in reality, not much time had passed.
Facing the Slave Lord’s questioning look, she nodded her head and agreed.
The Slave Lord breathed a sigh of relief. Then, after confirming that there was nothing wrong, she turned around and approached the Fire Elemental’s core.
Once a creature reached a certain level of strength, their remaining power would be dangerous even after their death.
This was true for True Devils like Liora, who, even if she were to die, the aura of her corpse would be able crush countless mortals and Little Devils to pieces, and it was even more true for Archdevils.
As the Slave Lord stepped closer, the aura permeating throughout the space was further agitated, and began pressing on her.
Resentment, hatred, and an air of authority filled the air, as the unwillingness of the Fire Elemental raged, wishing to tear her apart.
Fortunately for her, the Slave Lord was not a weakling.
Although she couldn’t rush forward at full speed, the aura failed to bring her any actual harm.
Before long, she had reached the core’s location and, leaning down, tried to pick it up.
The core didn’t budge at first. Even though it was only slightly bigger than the size of a human fist, its weight surpassed that of a mountain.
However, when the Slave Lord urged her demonic energy, she managed to accomplish her goal.
The core was picked up and brought before her eyes, causing a red tinge to shine across her pupils.
Her excitement and fanaticism were reflected in its shiny surface, making her look quite strange.
But, just when the Slave Lord believed that everything was over and that her goal of this trip had been achieved, the core in her hands suddenly shook.
With a violent slam against her palm, it broke her hand and tore her flesh apart, successfully escaping her grasp.
Then, it shot through the air and flashed across the room, flying towards the black gate.
“No! Stop it! It’s trying to escape!”, the Slave Lord shouted.
However, before anyone could react to her words, the core took a ’U’ turn.
Out of nowhere, its direction changed, no longer shooting towards the gate.
With a bang, it crashed onto Liora.
It didn’t hurt her nor cause any harm.
Instead, the moment it touched her, it melted into liquid and drilled into her body.
As her consciousness swept past it, Liora noticed that the core did not stay in her body for long. A second later, it flowed even deeper, reaching the place where her soul resided.
Then, as if it were a dead object and the previous scene had been an illusion, it fell down and settled on the side.
