Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 301: Treasure

Chapter 301: Treasure
After Liora departed from the Whitefall Mountains, she didn’t return to the Blood Devil Sect.
Instead, the information that Rose had given her earlier emerged in her mind, and she went in the completely opposite direction.
Though she had yet to regain her full strength, her power as a Grandmaster was already considerable, and she had become even stronger upon her advancement to a Lesser Devil.
Thus, it didn’t take her long to arrive at her destination. Or rather, at a human city close to her destination.
As Liora landed on the ground and approached the city on the horizon, her consciousness swept out and investigated everything, matching the images in front of her with the ones in her memories.
The previous world, the one of Knights, closely resembled that of European medieval times. On the other hand, the current world seemed even more ancient.
There was no particular force in charge of the world like the Iron Armor Empire.
Each of the sects ruled over a certain region, and every human in them was considered their possession.
The city that Liora was currently seeing was also ruled by such a force, and that organization was none other than the Heavenly Sword Sect.
After Liora paid the toll to the guards, she walked past the entrance and entered the city.
She immediately discovered several differences regarding this world compared to that of the Knights.
“This is just a small city with a population of less than one hundred thousand…”
“Yet, there are more than a thousand Warriors gathered in this place.”, Liora whispered inwardly.
Most of these Warriors were at the Blood Awakening realm, and there was no Master among them. Still, compared to the Knight world, where one would only meet a Knight once in a blue moon, such a sight was quite unique.
Liora did not linger near the gate for long. She soon resumed her walk, not showing any change of expression on her face.
But secretly, her ears perked up.
The noises in a radius of hundreds of meters around her were captured, as she did her best to collect information.
“The White Tiger Gang has been causing trouble recently. Many villages and smaller cities have been slaughtered. It’s said that the gang’s leader is planning to break through.”
“The Heavenly Sword Sect is preparing to conduct another disciple-accepting ceremony this year.”
“Several people claim that Kate’s home is haunted by ghosts. Groans and shrill screams can be heard from the neighbors every time her husband leaves for work.”
Most of the information she overheard was regarding what had happened in this area over the past few days.
However, there were still several useless pieces of information.
Especially when Liora heard a group of old women whispering in low voices and gossiping about the sighting of Andrew in Kate’s house, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Consciously ignoring that part of the information, her mind worked to digest the rest of it.
Unfortunately, there was nothing of particular value.
“But it makes sense.”
“Most of the people in the city are mortals. Even the Warriors here are quite weak. What valuable information could they possibly get?”
While Liora was thinking, she walked through the city’s streets and stopped in front of a wooden stall.
Pieces of shining metal, worn-out leather books, and even some bones were scattered across a slightly raised wooden platform, with an old man sitting behind it.
“These are fragments of the sword used by one of the Heavenly Sword Sect’s Elders. It’s said that a person observed it in the past and managed to comprehend an earth-shattering technique.”
“These books? They are unearthed from an ancient graveyard! One of them in particular contains the technique of a deceased Grandmaster!”
“These bones are the most valuable item! You see their golden color? It’s rumored that a powerful Warrior can absorb this type of sacred bones and improve their strength.”
Seeing Liora stop in front of his stall, the elderly peddler immediately took the initiative to introduce the items. His voice was loud and resounding, and the more he spoke, the more excited he became.
If Liora did not know any better, she would have really believed his words. Unfortunately, the laid-out items had no secrets under her investigation.
The fragments of the sword were revealed to be ordinary metal scraps, the ink on the books fresh and recently painted on, while even the bones were those of a goat rather than a human.
Although Liora had never believed the peddler’s words, she still couldn’t help but be speechless.
How shameless!
In all her years of being alive, she had never met such a big scammer! Even Devils would be embarrassed to meet him!
However, the next second, Liora discovered something even more wrong.
The moment she turned around and was about to leave, an excited voice rang in her ears.
“Old man, pack up everything! I want it all!”, a young male voice came, and hearing those words, the old man did not hesitate at all.
In a couple of seconds, he was seen handing a bag filled with items to the young man, earning a bunch of silver and golden coins in exchange.
Then, as if he were afraid that the young man would regret it, he instantly packed up the stall and left this place, like a great thief making his grand escape.
Soon, only the young man was left behind, clasping the bag with shining eyes.
“I didn’t expect that I would get so lucky and meet a hidden hermit. It’s just like in the stories told by my father…”, Liora heard the young man mutter as he gently brushed his fingers against the bag.
“My chance to become a Warrior has finally come!”
“I wonder which one of these things is the treasure. Is it a powerful Warrior technique that can make me invincible, or a weapon fragment with extraordinary power?”
After a few more mutterings, Liora saw the young man rushing away, as if worried that someone would covet his treasure.
Before long, only Liora was left standing in the otherwise empty street, doubting whether she had really made a mistake and lost some great opportunity.
