Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 308: Single Strike

Chapter 308: Single Strike
The thing emerging from the village was only a word.
Yet, as it teleported above her head, Liora felt her power being inexplicably suppressed.
A higher-level power shot out and landed on her body.
Instantly, it was as if gravity had increased hundreds of times.
Her body crackled, and her blood turned into tsunami waves, hitting her skin from inside and smashing onto her bones.
Most importantly, Liora felt her energy being suppressed. Both the demonic energy and the Qi and Blood hastily retreated.
In particular, the latter became impossible to control, remaining dormant within her body as if it had been terrified.
“A strike of a True Devil?”, Liora couldn’t help but think, as her eyes fell on the word above and she felt a strong sense of threat.
Ignoring the laughter of the middle-aged man beside her, whose plan seemed to have succeeded, Liora’s mind worked to think of a way to survive.
Escaping was not an option. The word “Death” had sealed the space around her, rendering her unable to dodge.
Similarly, using her Grandmaster strength was also meaningless.
Her Qi and Blood had gone out of control, as if it were a minister facing its Emperor.
“Can I only rely on my Devil abilities?”, Liora let out a sigh, somewhat reluctant.
This was a world with Greater Devil beings after all.
So far, she had consciously chosen not to use her most obvious Devil abilities, unwilling to leave behind potential clues.
Unfortunately, now that things had come to this, she no longer had any other option.
Liora’s demonic energy flared up and shot out of her body, as she was ready to activate Eclipse and shatter the suppressing word.
But just then, her eyes suddenly narrowed.
The demonic energy retreated, as another type of energy emerged.
Her forehead shone with a crimson light that grew increasingly larger until it finally transformed into a saber and fell into her hand.
Although it was immaterial, partly illusory, Liora had no issue holding it.
Most importantly, she sensed a strange resonance between her and the saber.
As her palm clasped it tightly, the suppression of the word decreased significantly.
Even the dormant Qi and Blood was awakened, mustering up the courage to rebel.
Liora entered a peculiar state. With no other thoughts other than to destroy the incoming threat, she raised the saber and swung it upwards.
Immediately, her body began to thin down.
Her lifeforce entered the saber’s blade, while faint mist flew out of her head and gathered around it.
In an instant, the crimson saber grew several times more powerful.
It blurred, seemingly ascending in dimension, before countless tiny crimson lights engulfed the word above.
Several exploding sounds soon echoed.
The air itself quivered while the land below trembled violently, affected by the aftermath of the confrontation.
The middle-aged man, who had unknowingly ran away, was also hit.
Several wind blades struck across his body and left many deep gashes behind, causing his blood to splatter everywhere.
A golden light soon flashed, and he quickly recovered, but the next moment, another barrage of wind blades struck.
Soon, he was stuck in the loop of being injured and recovering, unable to do anything but take the many attacks head-on.
Liora did not have time to pay attention to him. Her body felt hollow, completely empty and devoid of any power.
Even when she diluted her demonic energy and tried to heal, it only slightly alleviated the issues but didn’t solve them.
Liora understood why that was.
The earlier strike had not only consumed her lifeforce, Qi and Blood, and physical strength, but also the power of her soul.
Fortunately, the result of this was that she exerted power far beyond her current realm.
The Blood Blade Technique landed on the giant word and slowly chipped away at it, causing its light to gradually dim.
Thousands of brilliant lights exploded near the word, as if they were fireworks.
Unfortunately, even when the last of these lights fell, the word “Death” had yet to disappear.
Though its power had diminished significantly, it resumed its previous actions and continued targeting Liora.
“It’s meaningless…”
“It seems that I can only use my Devil strength.”, Liora couldn’t help but shake her head, knowing that she had no way to perform a second strike.
But just when she was ready to do so, her movements suddenly paused, just like earlier.
This time, not out of her own accord.
Instead, the saber in her hand moved on its own. This item, a manifestation of her soul, suddenly went out of control, shooting up and rushing towards the towering word above.
Liora was left stunned. The saber turned completely illusory and overlapped with the word “Death” before it began shaking violently, like a hungry beast.
A loud chewing sound rang in Liora’s ears, and her eyes widened. In front of her eyes, the saber began devouring the word from within, with the latter unable to put up any resistance.
It didn’t last long.
Just a few seconds later, the last crunching sound came, and the word turned into glass and shattered, vanishing from existence.
Seemingly having completed its mission, the saber quickly turned back.
It appeared before Liora and integrated with her head again, settling on top of her soul and nourishing it.
The moment it returned, Liora sensed the weakness of her soul alleviate.
Not only was the earlier consumption being made up, but the saber had also brought several great benefits with it.
However, Liora did not rush to investigate them.
Having dealt with the word, she finally had the time to take a look at her surroundings.
She instantly discovered that the earth in a radius of a few hundred meters had cracked with her as the center, while the various plants in it had grown old and weak, as if sucked out of their vitality.
Clearly, the word “Death” did not only cause physical damage. Instead, it operated in a more conceptual way, closer to being an ability rather than a physical attack.
Liora admired this scene for only a bit. She estimated that the power of the word had not only reached the True Devil threshold, but had also surpassed it.
