Chapter 310: Divine Race and Evil Spirits
The space contained within the two rings was far smaller than that of Liora’s Space Orb.
Thus, under the investigation of her powerful consciousness, it didn’t take long for every item within it to be inspected.
Only a few minutes later, Liora sat in front of the table yet again.
This time, however, there was no longer a pair of rings lying in front of her but a small pile of objects.
Liora held a book with one hand and quickly read through its contents, able to skim through it easily.
She had to sigh that she was fortunate to have reincarnated. Otherwise, since this world had a completely different language, it would have taken her some time to grasp it.
Fortunately, she was not illiterate! She could read!
Suppressing these inexplicable thoughts, Liora continued reading.
This was a book found in the young man’s ring, and compared to the items found in the ring of his protector, it was far more useful to someone like her.
“These people refer to themselves as members of the Divine Race. More accurately, they are members of the Ouroboros Clan, one of the nine Divine Clans…”
“According to this book, all members of the Ouroboros Clan are born at the Young Devil stage.”
“After a few years of practice, they can possess strength equivalent to a Master.”
Reading this, Liora couldn’t help but take a look at the unconscious protector lying outside the hut.
This was a person who would be regarded as an ancestor-like figure in a Warrior sect, but in the Divine Clan, he had a status only slightly higher than a newborn.
“Sure enough, everything changes according to one’s perspective.”
“A powerhouse in someone’s eyes is very likely to be a weakling in another’s…”, Liora sighed, but her eyes and hands did not stop.
The former continued scanning through the words, while her hands quickly flipped through the pages.
In fact, most of the book’s contents were not about the Divine Race.
Instead, it talked about creatures called “Evil Spirits”, who, according to this book, were the Divine Race’s sworn enemies.
“If I’m not wrong, this book was written to explain some basic information to young members of the Divine Clan.”
“As members of the race itself, there is no reason to specifically talk about the Divine Race. Rather, it makes far more sense to introduce its enemies.”, Liora realized why that was.
Still, the sudden change of topic did not dampen her mood.
Evil Spirits—they were part of the negative side of the world and were born from evil, chaos, and destruction.
Such beings possessed many different forms.
Some looked like young women, others like old men, while others were Eldritch-like monsters, with an appearance that was impossible to describe.
Regardless, no matter what form they possessed, such beings were said to be immortal.
For the Warriors, at least.
“Only members of the Divine Race can harm Evil Spirits. Mortals and the so-called Warriors are completely unable to!”
“That’s why we, the Divine Race, deserve to tower above these people!”
“We protect the mortals from Evil Spirits! What’s wrong if a few of them die in the process?!”
This passage was written in the last pages of the book, and in Liora’s opinion, was addressed to the young people reading the book.
“No wonder these guys are so arrogant. Even an education book is trying to brainwash them.”
“I’m afraid that they have grown up hearing all these things, and have long regarded other people as lesser beings.”, Liora closed the book and shook her head, though she was in no place to say anything.
Ultimately, the Divine Race could treat other people like this because of their powerful strength. It had nothing to do with some great and benevolent mission, nor with any other rational reason.
Liora did not ponder over these philosophical questions for long. After putting the book aside, her gaze landed on another item among this pile.
It was something she had discovered the very moment she opened the two rings, and something she had been restraining her impulse to devour all this while.
With a wave of her hand, the tempting item shot out and stopped on top of her palm.
It was a long strand of black hair that clearly belonged to a female human.
It looked ordinary, seemingly being the result of someone’s obsession with its owner rather than an actual spoil of battle.
Or at the very least, this was how it seemed to ordinary people.
In Liora’s field of vision, the strand of hair was completely different.
It was surrounded by faint white mist that revolved around it at a high speed, while even the composition of the hair itself was bizarre.
At a microscopic level, it didn’t look like hair, but like a gathered piece of energy, similar to the Fire Elemental cores she had encountered in the past.
As soon as her eyes fell on this object, Liora couldn’t help but swallow subconsciously.
Other people might not be familiar with this energy, but she could recognize it.
It was World Origin.
“This was something left by the ferocious woman killed by this group of people. If I’m not wrong, she should be an Evil Spirit.”
“If that’s the case, the reason for their immortality might be obvious. Do they rely on the World Origin?”
Liora did not contemplate these questions for long. After a couple more seconds, her hand holding the hair was clenched.
Immediately, the hair shattered. It transformed into white mist, which, under Liora’s guidance, fired towards her mouth.
The World Devourer Method began to operate on its own. It used the World Origin as its nourishment and progressed at an incredible speed.
Unfortunately, the World Origin contained in the strand was not much in volume.
In the blink of an eye, it had been completely consumed.
Yet, Liora showed no signs of disappointment. Rather, her eyes shone brightly, and she was unable to hide her excitement.
“The book said that there is a seemingly endless number of such Evil Spirits. Not only in the Northern Lands, but also in the Central Area, and the other three major regions.”
“If every Evil Spirit is made out of World Origin, then…”
Liora did not finish her words. But in her opinion, it would only require a few hundred of them to reach the 3rd Level of the World Devourer Method.
At that point, the shackles limiting her from becoming a Greater Devil would vanish.
