Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 312: Ophis

Chapter 312: Ophis
The dismembered middle-aged man stared at the two women not far away, fury and dread mixed across his face.
Seeing the Divine Clan’s famous descendant kneeling down and begging for mercy from a mere mortal, he couldn’t help but feel humiliated.
Most importantly, he began to wonder whether he had made the correct choice.
Liora should be able to get the information she sought, regardless.
So, didn’t this make his previous struggle completely meaningless?
If he knew that this was going to happen, he wouldn’t have acted so tough.
Using some tricks and subtle guidance, he might have been able to survive by revealing some information.
Standing not far away, Liora sensed the middle-aged man’s gaze, though she couldn’t possibly know what he was thinking.
Even if she did, she wouldn’t care.
Most of her mind was preoccupied with what the woman in front of her was saying, pieces of information that were otherwise inaccessible to ordinary Warriors.
“The Central Area is the very center of the world. It is the home of all Clans.”
“Among them, the nine most powerful are the absolute rulers, commonly referred to as the Divine Clans.”
The woman, who called herself Ophis, did not give Liora the time to ask any questions of her own.
She began chattering endlessly, revealing secrets and unveiling the mysteries of this world right before Liora.
What interested Liora the most was some high-level information, as well as the division of the Divine Race members.
Just like the book had previously mentioned, all members of the Divine Race were born with the power of a Young Devil.
Such people were called Newborns and were mostly of the younger generation.
Above that were the Awakened, the Weapon Masters, the Demon Saints, and finally, the Demon Sovereigns.
Ophis lacked the knowledge and could not comprehend just how strong such people were.
But through her descriptions, Liora was able to make a rough estimation.
An Awakened was equivalent to a ranked Young Devil, a Weapon Master to a Lesser Devil, while Demon Saints should possess the power of a True Devil.
As for Demon Sovereigns? Judging from Ophis’ descriptions, Liora judged that they were Greater Devil-level beings.
“It’s rumored that each of the Nine Divine Clans has a Demon Sovereign at its helm.”
“Although Ophis said that these are merely rumors and she has never met one before, it’s very likely that there is a hint of truth in this.”, Liora thought as she touched her chin, seemingly falling deep in thought.
Ophis, lying on the ground in front of her, did not dare to interrupt her thinking process.
The terrified expression remained etched on her face, and her body trembled violently, as if she were about to wet herself from fear.
Seeing her like this, the protector on the side couldn’t help but curse in a low voice.
“Useless! You’re the shame of the Divine Race!”, he spat, and if it were not for being unable to move, he would cut down this unworthy descendant and feed her body to demons!
However, what this man did not notice was that a small tremor suddenly occurred on the Heavenly Sword Sect’s mountain.
In its hollow interior, the black serpent painted below the pile of corpses was suddenly awakened. It moved.
Its long body twisted across the floor, and its maw was pushed forward, swallowing the corpses in one bite.
In the forbidden area, Ophis seemed to have established a connection with the black serpent.
Endless power flowed into her head and poured into her trump card.
Sensing its ever-increasing power, Ophis’s eyes turned cold.
She stared at Liora, who was oblivious to the incoming danger, with hatred, recalling the humiliation she had suffered so far.
Not only Liora. Even her protector was a target of her future revenge.
How could she let a person who had seen her behave like this live and spread the news?
Thinking of this, Ophis took action.
A glint flashed deep in her pupils as a black light shot out of her forehead and landed on her right hand.
Her body shook as she spat a mouthful of blood on the black light and urged it to activate.
“You dare to humiliate me like this! Die! Die! Die!”, Ophis screamed inwardly, almost going crazy.
However, just when Ophis believed that her plan had succeeded and that she would get her great revenge, a crimson light flashed.
The red light covered her vision for only a split second before boundless pain assaulted her mind.
“Aah!”, Ophis yelled as she saw that her palm had been cut off and dropped to the ground.
A fountain of blood rushed out of the wound, and the pale bones were revealed inside.
But this was not the reason why Ophis shouted.
With her palm having been cut off, the black light—her strong trump card—had also escaped her grasp.
Unknowingly, it had appeared in Liora’s hands.
Liora ignored Ophis’ unwilling wails and her struggle to resist.
She stared at the “Corrupt” word floating on top of her palm and inspected it.
Unlike the “Death” word she had previously encountered, the color of this one was black, and it was surrounded by a murky, dark liquid.
Its aura was impressive, and Liora was able to see that this word was quite stronger than “Death”.
“’Death’ can unleash the strike of a True Devil, but would actually never harm a True Devil. At most, it can stop them for a brief moment.”
“On the other hand, I’m afraid that ’Corruption’ can hurt and even injure a True Devil if they are caught off guard.”, Liora analyzed, and her eyes grew increasingly solemn.
She had already suspected that the previous rumors were correct, but by now, she was ninety percent certain. There were indeed Greater Devil-level beings in the Nine Divine Clans.
While many thoughts raced through Liora’s mind, she showed none of them on the surface.
After she inspected the word for a couple more seconds, she no longer suppressed her Manifestation.
Immediately, the crimson saber residing in her soul shot out and drilled into the black word.
Although “Corruption” was stronger and had not diminished in power like “Death”, Ophis had failed to fully activate its power.
Under the saber’s overwhelming momentum, its essence was devoured in the blink of an eye.
Then, the saber returned to Liora’s soul, as a small amount of Indestructible Matter flew out of it and dyed her soul golden.
The change was far more obvious than last time.
Before, only one percent of her soul and the saber were covered in Indestructible Matter, but now, this portion had grown to more than five percent.
Liora sensed that this change had brought her various benefits. But now was not the time to talk about this.
Her focus returned to reality, and she looked at the petrified Ophis before turning her attention to the dumbfounded middle-aged man.
Without hesitation, her hand turned into a fist, and she struck forward.
The body of the man disintegrated. Without the power of the Indestructible Matter, he had no way to resist.
In an instant, only his head was left behind, while his eyes remained wide open.
