Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 328: Tenth Divine Clan

Chapter 328: Tenth Divine Clan
The frail man looked down at his own body in astonishment and horror.
He had not noticed anything wrong before, but as the flesh and blood wove together and his body was reconstructed, he came to a shocking discovery.
His body… did not seem to belong to a human.
With two extremely short legs, two small hands, and an abdomen protruding, he looked more like a pregnant monster than a person.
Most importantly, the frail man discovered that his fifth limb was missing. There was nothing in between his two legs, making it impossible to call him a man anymore.
The frail man was stunned.
As a member of the Divine Race, he had died countless times over the years and had turned into a skeleton hundreds of times.
However, it was the first time that he found himself in such a… bizarre state.
Seeing him gnash his teeth at her with undisguised hatred in his eyes, Liora had the urge to bash his head in.
But soon, she restrained that impulse and merely shook her head:
“What’s wrong? You’re about to become a Demon Saint after all.”
“How can you act like this just because of a tiny change in your appearance? A body is merely one’s vessel.”
“People who wish to accomplish great things should not care about their external appearance. You disappoint me…”, Liora continuously shook her head, looking saddened by the frail man’s intense reaction.
Unfortunately, her words did not help calm down the man.
Judging from the look in his eyes and his trembling body, if it weren’t for his current state and for the lack of Divine Aura, he would have pounced on her long ago.
It required great effort from him to restrain his murderous intent, afraid that showing such an intention would result in Liora killing him on the spot.
Liora did not seem to notice his predicament.
Now that the two had completed their “deal”, she continued with the previous questions:
“Go on. Who did the nine Divine Clans fight against?”
“What are the Nine Halls you previously talked about?”, she questioned, as she walked to the side, moved through a gap in the door, and entered another room.
Just like the one before, this room was also massive.
However, perhaps because the battle had been contained in other places, the traces of battle were far less prominent.
Seemingly being the place where the army’s weapons were stored in the past, several Demon Weapons were lying in wooden racks, ready for soldiers to pick up.
They were not too strong, similar in power to the weapons that Liora once had the chance to select from.
Still, Liora did not ignore them.
The black umbrella appeared and slashed at those weapons, devouring their essence, and using them as essence to grow stronger.
The black serpents on its surface became increasingly more real, while the umbrella’s handle and tip shone with a sharp glint.
The frail man followed behind her and also entered the room. Unable to control his current body, he left deep pits on the floor beneath him.
However, he ignored the damage and the Demon Weapons, choosing to answer Liora’s questions instead.
“You are very lucky to have found me. Even Demon Saints are not qualified to know such secrets.”, he prefaced his answer, and continued:
“My favorite activity is excavating ancient tombs. I believe that only in such a way can one discover the greatest secrets and find out the truth about what happened.”
“And in one of my adventures, I actually discovered something shocking!”
“In ancient times, thousands of years ago, there were not only nine Divine Clans like now. Instead, there were once ten of them!”
“The war back then was not a battle between the Divine Clans and another outside party, but an infighting between the Divine Clans!”
Such a revelation would have been shocking to an ordinary Divine Race member.
After all, they had learned from a young age that there were only nine Divine Clans who worked together to control the world.
The suggestion that this was not always true was unbelievable, similar to someone telling a person on Earth that there was once not one, but two suns in the sky.
However, Liora was not an ordinary person. Her way of thinking was far more flexible.
Still, she found several loopholes in the frail man’s words.
“I’ve read in an ancient book that the ancestors of the Divine Clans were all acquaintances, and established the Divine Clans at the same time, in the same exact year.”
“The number of the Divine Clans was also explicitly mentioned to be nine. Are you claiming that all the history books have been altered?”
Just when she was about to continue, the frail man shook his head, and the previous smugness returned on his face.
His lips curved into a slight smile that looked quite terrifying considering his monster-like body, but he seemed not to notice.
“Who said that the tenth Divine Clan was a Divine Clan from the very beginning? Aren’t there thousands of smaller Clans in the Central Area?”
“Among them, most are weak, but there are still some with Demon Saints in charge who are relatively autonomous.”
“Is it hard to believe that one of them can become a Divine Clan in the future?”
Not giving Liora the chance to interrupt him, the frail man answered his own questions:
“In fact, this was exactly the case back then.”
“Almost a thousand years after the Divine Clans’ establishment, one of the Clan Heads of those smaller Clans received a great opportunity.”
“In just a hundred years, he became a Demon Sovereign, able to contend against an entire Divine Clan on his own.”
“However, that person also had subordinates who grew alongside him. Mimicking the structure of the Divine Clans, he established Nine Halls, each led by a powerful Demon Saint.”
The frail man continued his speech, even though he didn’t need to.
Liora could already guess what happened next.
That person and his subordinates grew increasingly powerful, ending up threatening the nine Divine Clans.
Afraid that he would suppress them in the future and they would lose their extraordinary status, the Divine Clans launched a war against them.
“So, does the term ’Demon God’ refer to that person? Is this place his tomb?”, Liora asked.
But this time, the frail man did not give an exact answer. He shook his head helplessly:
“I don’t know. It’s very likely that this is true. But it’s also as likely that the title refers to someone else.”
