Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 369: Hollow City

Chapter 369: Hollow City
Liora closed her eyes and silently digested the memories of her opponent.
With her having advanced to a Greater Devil, it had become far easier to obtain memories useful to her.
Coupled with the difference in strength between her and the hunched man, Liora was able to obtain the information she sought pretty quickly.
The moment she opened her eyes, she couldn’t help but let out a sigh.
“I didn’t expect it…”
“Although thousands of years have gone by in the Demon Weapon World, less than a year has passed in the Demon World.”
“Is the time difference between the two worlds this big?”
Liora was not surprised by the existence of the time difference itself.
It was perfectly normal for the time in different worlds to flow differently.
Let alone a difference of thousands of times, even if millions of years were equivalent to a mere moment, it wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary.
Still, since she was not used to such a situation, it took a few moments for Liora to recover.
After she accepted this fact, she shifted her focus to the rest of the information she had just obtained.
This information was very valuable, exactly what she needed to navigate through the Demon World at the moment.
“The amalgamation of creatures that I created has indeed caused chaos in the 173rd layer of the Demon World.”
“Over the past few months, thousands of cities and millions of Devils have died in its hands. The more it kills, the more destruction it seeks.”
“Exactly because of that and its bloodthirsty nature, that creature has been named ’Catastrophe Devil’ by weaker Devils.”
The Catastrophe Devil had become widely known by now, and even Lesser Devils were aware of its existence.
Its many slaughters had brought fear to most Devils, plunging the Layer into chaos as they scrambled to find ways to survive.
The result of such chaos was simple.
Many Devils had already left the 173rd Layer and chose to escape into other Layers, unwilling to return before the Catastrophe Devil was killed.
This didn’t mean that the creatures in the Layer had become less, though.
As the news of the Catastrophe Devil’s existence spread, many Devils from other Layers were alarmed and travelled here, hoping to reap some benefits.
The man that Liora had just killed happened to be one of them.
Through luck and his own special bloodline abilities, he had managed to trace the Catastrophe Devil back to this place.
Then, feeling that the Catastrophe Devil might have left a treasure or inheritance behind, he hastily came here to collect.
The rest was history.
Recalling the greed that the man had displayed and his earlier mindless behavior, Liora couldn’t help but shake her head in disapproval.
“How dare a mere True Devil meddle in the affairs of Archdevils? Isn’t this person simply seeking death?”, she let out a sigh, feeling that this person was bound not to live for long.
Even if he hadn’t died at her hands today, it would only be a matter of time before he died at the hands of someone else.
Unwilling to investigate the thinking process of a True Devil for long, Liora lowered her head and glanced at the Gate of the Hollow within the gap of the earth.
Unlike the hunched man, she knew that the so-called Catastrophe Devil had not left anything of value behind.
There was no such thing as inheritance or hidden treasure.
Not only was this place not a land of opportunity, but it was, in fact, quite dangerous.
After all, this was where the Catastrophe Devil had been born.
No one knew if it had left any power behind.
Moreover, any sudden movements in this place might cause the Catastrophe Devil to notice something amiss.
Thinking of this, and knowing that there was no benefit to be had, Liora did not linger here for long.
After taking a final look at the gate below, and engraving the remaining auras into her memories, she finally left.
—
The structure of the 173rd Layer of the Demon World was fairly simple.
Devil cities were scattered along the continent, with the strongest among them, those with a Greater Devil in charge, being known as true cities.
Besides them, the only other special landscapes were the four forbidden areas and the Hollows.
The process of the formation of the former was unknown, but Hollows were known to emerge because of the Ruler’s, the Hollow Ancestor’s, influence.
This structure was something that everyone in the 173rd Layer was familiar with, and no one, including Liora, had ever doubted.
However, Liora discovered something astonishing upon returning this time.
A piece of information had appeared in her mind the moment she returned to the Demon World and had revealed the truth of this Layer.
Standing many kilometers above the ground, Liora stared at the vast continent below and discovered that it looked endless even from this high in the sky.
Although she had become a peak Greater Devil and was thousands of times stronger, Liora could still not see the end of the 173rd Layer, as if it stretched infinitely.
Such a discovery might have stunned her at any other time. However, Liora had neither the time nor the will to admire the scenery at the moment.
Her entire focus was on the world floating in the distance, or to be more accurate, on the enormous city.
Hollow City—a giant city attached to the 173rd Layer, with essence higher than an ordinary higher-level world.
According to the information that had appeared in her mind, the Hollow City was the real hidden center of the 173rd Layer.
Only Greater Devils and stronger beings had access to it, while the city was invisible to weaker beings.
“I used to believe that the Devil cities built by Greater Devils were truly vast and almost nothing could match them. But now, I realize that those cities are nothing.”
“Is this what a city built by an Ancient Devil looks like?”
“Using an entire higher-level world as a material to build a city. What a great undertaking…”
Though she was far away, Liora could glimpse into the city’s information.
Giant buildings of all kinds and types, creatures powerful enough to shatter worlds with ease, and precious treasures that were enough to transform a mortal into a terrifying existence.
All of the above could be seen everywhere in the city.
