Chapter 374: Practice of Devil Techniques
Although everything pointed to the fact that she and the Catastrophe Devil were destined to meet again, Liora did not contemplate this matter for long.
The situation between the Catastrophe Devil and the Archdevils and Ancient Devils was none of her business at the moment.
At present, her goal was nothing but to escape her current predicament.
Even though Liora’s trip to the Demon Weapon World had proved fruitful and her strength had undergone a massive transformation, it had also showcased a future problem.
Namely, the World Devourer ancestor parasitizing her True Spirit Gate.
If she wished to advance further and become an Archdevil, she had to think of a way to expel or even kill the opponent.
“With my current strength and the help of the Snake of Time, I should be able to deal with an ordinary Archdevil trying to take over my body.”, Liora thought, but soon shook her head.
“Unfortunately, the World Devourer ancestor is not an ordinary Archdevil. In fact, it’s very likely that they are an Ancient Devil, and not an ordinary one at that.”
The World Devourer ancestor claimed to be a powerful Archdevil during their previous confrontation.
However, Liora had no reason to believe the words of her enemy.
She believed that there was a high chance that the purpose of these words was to mislead her.
For example, to cause her to let down her guard and attack the True Spirit Gate without making sufficient preparations.
Thankfully, Liora was not like other Devils and could restrain her instincts yearning for advancement.
Thus, after returning to the Demon World, she immediately rushed to Hollow City and began making preparations.
Thinking of this, several squirming runes appeared in Liora’s hand.
They were the Godheads that she had just purchased from the market, each belonging to one of the four major elements. Namely: Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind.
As Liora’s consciousness swept past the runes, information regarding them appeared in her mind.
Though she had never visited the world of the Gods and had never seen one, she could roughly guess some things about them just based on these Godheads.
“The Gods of that world effectively merge with one of the world’s operation rules. With the help of the faith of their believers, they can obtain subtle control over certain concepts.”
For example, the Godhead of the God of Fire allowed one to control fire elements. Similarly, the Ice Godhead gave control over ice elements, etc.
Liora could sense that she would also gain partial control over the relevant abilities if she were to integrate with the Godheads in her hands.
However, just like she had mentioned while in the market, such temptation was easy to suppress.
The reason she purchased these runes was not to absorb them.
Instead, it was to use them as resources to advance the practice of one of her two Devil Techniques.
Four Elements Method—the first Devil Technique she had collected in the Demon World, and the one she had yet to master.
Recalling its information, Liora closed her eyes and activated Devour.
Instantly, several bloody tentacles grew out of her body as if she had become an Outer God.
The tentacles seemed to possess a consciousness of their own and quickly approached the runes, wrapping around them and starting to swallow them.
The tentacles pulsated and flew all over the place, like monsters gone out of control.
However, Liora paid no heed to them.
Her mind remained on her own body, and she watched herself slowly transform.
The essence of the four elements poured from the tentacles into her body while the Four Elements Method began to operate.
With Devour’s assistance and her own powerful strength, Liora faced little difficulty while practicing.
Only a few minutes later, the runes lost their luster, and their originally beautiful colors turned gray.
Following a barely audible click, the items that Liora had paid a heavy price to obtain exploded.
Unlike what one would expect, Liora was not disappointed by this result.
Rather, she was quite satisfied.
Opening her eyes and staring at the four elements surrounding her that used to be invisible to her, Liora had a hunch that she could control them with just a thought.
And that idea soon proved to be correct.
With a move of her mind, several lights flashed in front of her.
A large dragon made of fire emerged and roared, before it quickly disappeared, replaced by a blue sword made purely out of ice.
Then, a small mountain appeared, followed by a revolving whirlpool, and then back to towering creatures made of fire elements.
Within moments, Liora controlled the four elements to create a variety of phenomena.
Sensing their power and feeling her absolute control over them, she couldn’t help but nod her head with a smile.
“It deserves to be a technique developed by the Four Elements Devil, a peak Archdevil.”
“Although it’s only a technique at the True Devil stage, mastering it is enough to significantly enhance my combat power.”, Liora thought as she waved her hand and dispersed the gathered elements.
The room returned to calm.
Having finished practicing the Devil Technique, Liora still did not rush to go out.
Instead, her focus shifted to another Devil Technique, one that she had awakened upon her advancement to a Greater Devil and could be considered the upgraded form of the World Devourer Method.
Primal Abyss Technique—the inherited Greater Devil technique of all World Devourers.
Unlike at the True Devil stage, where Devil Techniques were mainly used to improve one’s understanding of certain concepts and thus advance, at the Greater Devil stage, techniques were purely meant for fighting.
Some of them focused on enhancing the Devil’s physical strength, others helped them awaken certain abilities or talents, while there were even some that completely changed one’s state.
The Primal Abyss Technique was a mix of the first and the third types.
By perfectly combining the power of Nothingness, their demonic energy, and their Indestructible Matter, a World Devourer could give birth to Abyss Power.
Abyss Power was merely a name.
Its most important function was to temper one’s physical body and soul, while it could also be used while fighting to enhance one’s combat power.
Although this was the first Greater Devil technique that Liora had ever obtained, she quickly judged that its quality was extremely high.
Provided that a Greater Devil fully mastered it, it was more than enough to help them leapfrog, allowing them to contend against a person a substage higher than them.
Even for the current Liora, practicing this technique would significantly enhance her combat power, much more than the Four Elements Method ever did.
Unfortunately…
“This technique cannot be practiced.”, Liora shook her head and concluded.
As something passed down through bloodline memories, it was very likely that the Primal Abyss Technique was created by the World Devourer ancestor.
At the very least, this person had partial control over the technique and might have left behind some loopholes.
As such, to practice this technique while being destined to confront them was not only reckless but also extremely naive.
“Thankfully, I was already aware of this and made sufficient preparations.”, Liora thought, and her focus fell on another Greater Devil technique, one she had just found in the market.
Demonic Body Art was its name.
Just like the Primal Abyss Technique, it was based upon the integration of different forces.
It was just that, unlike the former, the Demonic Body Art only integrated Indestructible Matter and demonic energy.
This meant that its effects were far weaker than those of the Primal Abyss Technique.
Regardless, Liora felt that it was worthwhile to practice it.
Every bit of extra combat strength she had was enough to tilt the scales of balance and give her an advantage in her future confrontation with the World Devourer ancestor.
With that in mind, Liora didn’t hesitate to begin its practice.
