Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 392: Token No. 3

Chapter 392: Token No. 3
Liora held the Reincarnation Fruit and immediately had the urge to devour it. She believed that as long as she swallowed it, her soul would take a step forward and leap beyond the Greater Devil stage.
However, despite her instincts urging her to do so, Liora ultimately shook her head with faint reluctance.
“Now is not the time just yet.”
“I don’t know how long it will take me to digest its effects fully.”
“It’s fine if it only takes a couple of hours, but if days or even weeks pass, I will find myself in danger.”
At the same time, Liora had another idea.
She was planning to find a Soul-related Greater Devil Technique.
In that case, the Reincarnation Fruit, a treasure that could enhance one’s soul, would perhaps speed up her practice of the technique, just like elemental resources helped the Four Elements Method.
With that in mind, Liora gritted her teeth and put the Reincarnation Fruit away, no matter how unwilling she might be.
She carefully placed it in one of the Space Orb’s corners, arranging formations around it to ensure that it would not secretly escape while she was not paying attention.
The moment the formations were arranged, Liora’s tense nerves finally relaxed.
Having a valuable treasure in her hands, it would be difficult for her to say that she had not been nervous.
After all, the Reincarnation Fruit had the intention to escape.
If she allowed it to succeed, all the efforts she had gone through would have been for naught.
Recalling her previous actions, Liora subconsciously lowered her head and glanced at the Snake of Time with a tinge of pain in her gaze.
Although she had consumed the corpses of the elderly Devil and the undead creatures to help it recover, the backlash it suffered was greater than expected.
Even though the Snake of Time had not broken apart, some tiny cracks could be seen across its surface, mirroring the small cracks in her own soul.
“Every power requires its user to pay a price. The same holds for the power of time.”
“Although the Snake of Time is useful, both in combat and as an auxiliary means, I’m ultimately too weak to really wield it.”
“Only when I become an Archdevil, or even reach the peak of that stage, and upgrade the Snake of Time technique a couple more times, will I no longer have to fear suffering backlash.”, Liora realized.
Manipulating the river to transform back into a snake and coil around her finger, she was about to leave when she suddenly remembered something.
The Reincarnation Fruit had attracted most of her attention. However, besides that and the tree, there was one more object within this demi-plane.
Glancing at the large square stone not far away, Liora’s eyes glinted as she tried to see what made it worthy of being placed here.
After all, she didn’t believe that an ordinary stone had a place here. Just like the Reincarnation Fruit, this stone was bound to be a treasure.
Unfortunately, no matter how much she investigated, she failed to find anything.
“Is it really an ordinary piece of stone?”, she couldn’t help but wonder, though she didn’t believe it just yet.
Flashing in front of the square stone, she leaned down and poured her demonic energy into its surface, wishing to use it as a means to investigate its inner structure.
But before she could do so, a trace of emotion flickered across her eyes.
Under her surprised gaze, the stone square suddenly shook before it rapidly shrank down.
In an instant, the once large stone had turned into a small square token made from stone.
Perhaps because it was her demonic energy that awakened it, but the token rushed towards Liora and settled on top of her palm.
Liora found that the number “3” was engraved on its surface using a method she could not recognize.
Unfortunately, besides this small but unimportant clue, there was nothing that could suggest the token’s functions.
Liora, though, had a faint guess.
Recalling the giant mark she had seen at the center of the maze, she was led to believe that the token was most likely related to it.
Moreover, the number three led to another conclusion.
“Is there such a token in every other marked location?”, Liora pinched her chin.
If she remembered correctly, the map had twelve such locations marked.
Together with the one at its center, it made a total of thirteen special locations.
“Besides the Commander, the Universe Chamber of Commerce brought exactly twelve people in.”
“Sure enough, a force with an Archdevil in charge cannot be underestimated. Just like I thought, these people were specially arranged to come here.”, she shook her head while putting the stone token away.
Then, she no longer lingered at the demi-plane.
With a step forward, she passed through the formation and returned to the outside room.
Immediately, her body squirmed, and she exited her “Tree Devil” state, regaining her real appearance.
Not paying any attention to this, she opened her mouth and spoke up.
“Did you find anything amiss in the room?”
“Is there any secret area?”, she glanced at Alpha and asked, though she already knew the answer.
Indeed, the result didn’t surprise her.
Hearing her question, Alpha immediately shook her head.
“No. Besides the undead and that formation, there seems to be nothing else in the room.”
Alpha had previously seen Liora enter the formation and sensed the previous moments. Thus, she could guess that Liora had discovered something inside.
However, she didn’t ask any questions.
If Liora wished to tell her, she would eventually learn the truth. If not, she most likely wouldn’t get an answer even if she were to ask.
Liora was not disappointed by Alpha’s response. She had already expected it.
She had investigated the room briefly before entering the formation and had found nothing. In fact, rather than call it a room, it would be more accurate to call it a cage.
Clearly, these rooms were not created for people to live in, but to house the formations and, perhaps more importantly, the treasures inside.
As for the undead? They were merely here to serve as the treasures’ guardians.
“Judging from this composition, it’s very likely that each room contains a different treasure.”
“Although it’s unlikely that all these treasures are as valuable as the Reincarnation Fruit, it’s worth fighting over.”
Thinking of this, Liora finally had another purpose besides searching for a way to leave the maze. She believed that coming here might prove to be an opportunity.
She took out the map and stared at the marked locations for a few seconds.
After focusing on the closest one and memorizing the route, she motioned Alpha to follow her and left the room.
Perhaps because the formation had been entered, exiting the room was now allowed.
Without facing any obstruction, the two women soon returned to the complicated, densely interlocked corridors.
However, compared to before, Liora and Alpha were now far less clueless.
With the map leading the way, they easily wandered through the maze, slowly but surely approaching their destination.
As for the undead who dared to block their way? Liora didn’t even need to take action.
Alpha alone could deal with them.
