Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 446: Connection

Besides the wish to improve her strength, Liora had another purpose when leaving Hollow City this time.
The moment she returned to the Demon World after obtaining the ancient inheritance, she felt the reappearance of a long-lost connection, one she had almost forgotten about due to the passing of time.
She was surprised at first, wondering whether this was an elaborate plan set up by the Universe Chamber of Commerce or the conspiracy of some unknown being.
However, after waiting for several days, conducting several investigations, and still sensing no danger, she realized that this feeling was neither an illusion nor caused by external means.
The reappearance of the connection was genuine, and she guessed that it was likely the result of her advancement to an Archdevil.
An advancement brought an all-around improvement and was indeed enough to extend the range of her perception.
Therefore, and because she had no other particular target in mind, Liora chose to trace that connection and seek out its other “end”.

Meanwhile, in a faraway place, a bizarre race of creatures existed.
They were made from mud, while minerals and ores served as their veins.
Their appearance closely resembled the famed golems, and their mindless behavior made it easy to mistake them for such.
A large number of these creatures had unknowingly gathered in a giant cave. Several of them stayed outside, patrolling the perimeter, while even more were underground.
In dimly lit corridors, these creatures struggled to move their arms and crushed the brown ore in front of them, before packing it up and carrying it away.
Little by little, the brown ore disappeared. However, they didn’t rest.
They moved to another location and did the same thing, carrying tons of such ore at every passing minute.
If any Devil were here to witness this scene, they would be left stunned.
Not by their behavior, but by their identity.
They were the infamous Earth Elementals of the Skyfalls Mountains, corresponding to the Fire Elementals, Water Elementals, and Wind Elementals of the other three forbidden areas.
This might have led people to believe that the mine was located there. But in fact, it was countless meters away from them.
This led to several questions.
Had the Earth Elementals broken out of their seal, unbeknownst to everyone?
And, according to the current situation, they had broken out of their seal all in order to… mine?
—
“What? Has the output of the mine dropped by thirty percent?”
“Trash! Trash! What are those trash below doing? Could it be that I have been too lenient on them in the past?”
A furious roar could be heard inside the mine.
An Earth Elemental, slightly shorter than its six-meter-tall companions, was seething with rage.
It stared at the person who came to report with hatred in its eyes, its gaze almost devouring the other party. Its outburst was to be expected.
As the leader of this outpost, how could it justify this to the clan’s higher-ups?
Everything suggested that the ore they were mining was extremely valued by those powerful beings.
Wouldn’t it be stripped of its position and punished severely according to the clan’s rules?
Recalling the fate of several Earth Elementals who had experienced this “punishment” before, it couldn’t help but tremble with fear.
But then, that fear turned into even more anger.
“Go! Go! Tell those damn slaves to work overtime! Capture any passing Devils! Go into the mine by yourself!”
“I don’t care what you do! All I need is for you to make up for what is lost!”, the Earth Elemental spat out.
Its subordinate did not argue. It immediately rushed out of the room, though confused by the leader’s instructions.
Before long, only the short Earth Elemental remained in the room.
The fury remained etched on its face for several minutes before its dead eyes gleamed with a green light.
A pair of whiskers materialized beside its nose, swaying back and forth as its nose twitched.
The inflexible arms of the Earth Elemental moved strangely.
They came in front of him, and it began to rub its palms together.
“Hehehe.”, an eerie chuckle came out of its mouth.
“I should have accumulated enough to reach the Indestructible Body stage by now.”
“Sure enough, these Earth Elementals are stupid. It took them so long to discover that something was wrong.”
As it spoke, a mountain of brown ore materialized before it, filling the entire room.
Dense demonic power coursed through its body, and its glow illuminated the room, evidence of its extraordinariness.
Earth Spirit Ore, one of the few resources of the Demon World that could increase the volume and quality of a Devil’s demonic energy.
It was sought after by countless people, and only a few Archdevils were qualified to have some of it in their hands.
Yet now, a mere Greater Devil Earth Elemental possessed an entire mountain of it. And, judging from its earlier words, this was not the first time it faced such a situation.
The Earth Elemental took its seat beside the Earth Spirit Ore, crashing some of it during the process.
Its demonic energy surged and transformed into threads. It wrapped around this precious resource and started to absorb it.
The threads shook.
Demonic energy rushed into its body, and its aura erupted.
Perhaps because of this, its appearance began to change. Its body crumbled and turned into dust, as its Earth Elemental exterior gradually faded away.
Like a cicada that had shed off its outer layer, the Earth Elemental’s—or rather, this creature’s—true appearance was revealed.
It was a male human. Or at least, this was how it seemed.
But based on the deep green glow in his eyes and the two fuzzy ears growing out of his head, it was clear to everyone that this man was not a human.
Based on his inhuman characteristics, everything suggested that he was some kind of mouse-related Devil.
Perhaps most importantly, this creature happened to be at the other end of the connection that Liora was following at the moment.
