Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress - Chapter 466: Gap

The person who caused these changes was not the Hollow Ancestor, as one would expect, but his destined opponent—the Catastrophe Devil.
Compared to the last time Liora encountered this creature, it had now become far more powerful and majestic.
Last time the two faced each other, the Catastrophe Devil only possessed the power of an Archdevil.
Yet now, its aura faintly surpassed the Ascension Stage Zerg Queen Liora had devoured.
Even so, the Catastrophe Devil looked like a child when standing in front of the colossal body of the Four Elements Devil.
Though his size was enough for his shadow to cover an entire city, the Four Elements Devil was larger than entire continents!
How could they be compared?
The two beings, both of similar origin, exchanged a brief glance.
Then, a faintly surprised exclamation escaped the Four Elements Devil’s lips.
“So many different powers… Who was it that created this thing?”, he couldn’t help but mutter, his gaze locking onto the Catastrophe Devil.
The amalgamation of his own remnant will and the consciousness of two other Ancient Devils—the Blood God Ancestor and the Hydra Ancestor—fell into his gaze.
As for Duke Bloodflower? He didn’t spare a single glance towards such a weakling.
The fury in the Four Elements Devil’s eyes gradually subsided.
He didn’t take any action, but rather attempted to peer into destiny.
His eyes flashed, and a rune flickered within his pupils as he raised his head to look at the sky.
If Liora were in the earlier state, fused with the world around her, she would have discovered that the Four Elements Devil was staring straight at the River of Time.
Or rather, he was looking upstream through the river, peering into the past.
“Ancient”. The name chosen for the Ancient Devil stage was not random; it reflected their control over the power of time.
The Four Elements Devil continued looking into the illusory river, trying to reach the point when the Catastrophe Devil had been born.
Scenes of the Catastrophe Devil’s journey flashed in his eyes.
He saw how this “clone” of his had been chased down by the Hollow Ancestor and his subordinates, while making plans and taking actions to help him break free.
Yet, as he neared the source of everything, the Four Elements Devil’s vision suddenly became blank.
He could see no more, as if the past had been erased!
“Is there another Ancient Devil involved? Has my clone unknowingly been tampered with?”
Countless thoughts raced through the Four Elements Devil’s mind, and he suspected that the Catastrophe Devil’s birth was not a coincidence.
Glancing at the Catastrophe Devil, an amalgamation of his own will but whose body was filled with several other impure “things”, the Four Elements Devil hesitated.
Keeping such a clone would benefit him greatly, increasing his chances of survival even if he were to perish.
However, keeping the Catastrophe Devil alive represented hidden dangers.
Soon, the Four Elements Devil made a shocking decision.
Stretching his hand, he grabbed onto the Catastrophe Devil and tossed him into his mouth. Chewing sounds echoed as he swallowed him whole.
The Four Elements Devil’s demonic energy surged.
Using his authority over his split consciousness, he devoured the Catastrophe Devil, inheriting everything he possessed.
The split consciousness itself returned and enhanced his soul.
But more importantly, the authority of the two Ancient Devils benefited him greatly.
In the sky above his head, his Throne, resting on the banks of the River of Time, trembled. The large fractures on its surface healed as it moved further back, as if traveling into the past.
A transcendent aura covered the Four Elements Devil’s body as it did.
“I didn’t expect to have such a feast not long after my revival.”, he muttered, smacking his lips.
“I originally believed it would take me hundreds of years to recover. Now, it seems that my revenge on the Hollow Ancestor can begin far sooner than expected.”
Saying this, the towering being’s gaze deepened.
The Four Elements Devil had died at his hands and knew the strength of the Hollow Ancestor the best. In his current state, he had absolutely no chance to contend against him.
However…
Glancing at the Demon Layer, the Four Elements Devil’s eyes flashed with hatred.
“I want to see how much the Demon Layer’s destruction will affect you. Will your strength fall back as a result?”, he chuckled eerily, raising his hand before bringing it down.
Upon contact, everything it was touching evaporated.
Instantly, more than five percent of the Demon Layer was nowhere to be seen. The Four Elements Devil did not stop there.
He continued wreaking havoc, launching attack after attack and blow after blow.
—
Liora in the sky had no idea what the Four Elements Devil was thinking, much less the changes that followed his swallowing of the Catastrophe Devil.
From start to finish, all she saw was him devouring his own clone before starting to demolish the Demon Layer.
She was unable to do anything.
The mere aftermath of his blows affected the space outside the Demon Layer, forcing her to have to defend herself.
Coupled with her inability to move, she looked like a mouse that had stepped onto a trap.
“Damn it!”, she couldn’t help but curse, feeling as if she had been tossed into a turbulent sea.
Colorful lights flickered in her vision, as chunks of the broken continents shot into the air and slammed on her as if they were a meteor shower.
Piece after piece crashed onto her body. She had to use her full power to withstand their impact.
The Devil Empress’s Furnace materialized and started devouring the chunks of the continents, while the Primordial Sin Phantom emerged behind her back and did the same.
Unfortunately, though Liora managed to survive the initial impact, the continuous outpour still put her in danger.
More importantly…
“The Four Elements Devil has not paid any attention to me because he has set his eyes on the Demon Layer.”
“Once the Demon Layer is destroyed completely, he will surely shift his focus on me, a lone Devil floating in the sky.”
Even if he had no curiosity towards her purpose and did not know of her previous actions, he wouldn’t hesitate to slap her to death.
Thinking of this, alarm bells rang out in Liora’s heart.
She had several plans to escape, even without the need to flee to other Demon Layers.
However, most of her preparations were located in the large landmass below.
Judging from the fact that more than half of the Demon Layer had already been destroyed, it would be wishful thinking to believe that those could still work.
Liora grumbled.
It had only been a few minutes since the initial changes happened. Yet, in such a short amount of time, she found herself in a terrible predicament.
It was the first time she had ever faced such a threat, mostly as a result of the giant gap between her and the opponent.
