Evolution of the Ruined Heir - Chapter 324: Surface

Chapter 324: Surface
Kosim was a man who had experienced many things in life.
He wasn’t born privileged, at least to his standards. He had to claw his way up the food chain to reach where he currently was.
For many in the Sanguine clan, guarding a Vein was a task of the highest honor. It meant being given the privilege of guarding a future pillar of the great Sanguine clan.
If said pillar rose to become the Blood Sovereign of the clan, then the guardian had the privilege to become a second Iron Saint. A position of power, authority.
Kosim often dreamed of such scenes. Where he stood as second in command of the great giant of the west.
But he knew earlier on, his master could not become the Sovereign.
He wasn’t sure if it was because of the other monsters that were the older Veins, or because he had been put in the care of a crazy Vein.
Regardless, his dreams had become absurd to him, because they were impossible.
The impossible can never happen. This was general knowledge, yet, in front of Kosim, a 14 year old boy made the impossible happen.
A wave of blinding green slammed onto Kosim with immense force. He found himself lifted off the ground. His body tore back like a missile, tearing through sturdy walls.
Regardless, he was a Bloom. He had the power to wipe out cities, to cause chaos the likes of which people of the old world would never believe.
He would be damned if he allowed this to defeat him.
Kosim twisted, and he spun midair, lowering himself to the ground. He skidded with so much force that his feet left trails like gutters in their wake.
‘What just happened?’
It was a heavy question, one Kosim needed to know. He had been moments away from grabbing Malakai. What had happened?
Could it really be Malakai? Kosim knew this to be the answer, but he refused to believe it. A 14 year old had sent a Bloom flying back? Where was the logic in that?
‘Someone must have interfered.’
His crimson eyes sharpened, and he crouched low, predatory eyes piercing through the blinding haze.
‘Blood map.’
Threads of blood left his arm and entered into the ground. Kosim sent his senses out. He listened carefully, detecting the vibrations of the world.
Thump. Thump. Scree!
Curved blades of pure vita tore out from the blinding light, whizzing towards him.
“Bloodflow.”
Blood rushed through Kosim’s veins. A surge of power, and he blurred, evading the glittering blades with deftness.
‘He’s coming.’
Blood surged down his arm, condensing into a sword just as a figure burst out from the light, scythe blade tearing forward.
His weapon flashed up to meet the strike and the air detonated.
A concussive wave burst outward, slamming into the walls with the roar of thunder. Dust and fragments rained down as cracks spiderwebbed across the ceiling.
Stalls of equipment and furniture were hurled against the walls, some splintering instantly, others screeching across the ground before being crushed by the shockwave.
The lights flickered violently, glass shattering as the force rippled through the underground chambers. The stench of smoke and scorched stone filled the air, mixing with the iron tang of blood.
For a moment, it felt less like an underground base and more like a collapsing cavern.
Through the utter chaos, Kosim’s crimson eyes met Malakai’s. And for a moment, he forgot if he were predator or prey.
Kosim felt the vita around them converge towards the figure in front of him. His eyes constricted.
‘How?’
He wasn’t given a chance to ponder. They converged on the spot where their blades screeched, before detonating.
The explosion sent them hurtling away in opposite directions.
Kosim gritted his teeth and stomped the ground hard, stopping his momentum. He felt the underground base quake. Large chunks of the ceiling split before falling to the ground.
Cracks continued to spread across the floor and wall. The underground base was collapsing, but Kosim didn’t seem to care.
‘I have to kill him.’ He had no idea what sorcery Malakai was currently utilizing, but he wasn’t going to allow him escape.
The haze in front of him cleared, just in time for his eyes to land on Malakai. He held Seraza by the neck with his left, carrying their test subject on his back.
However, his right arm was outstretched, vita converging in front of it in an orb.
As Kosim took on the sheer size of the converging vita, his expression hardened.
“What are you?”
The vita exploded forward in a beam of pure energy, screaming towards Kosim with a force that sent the air around it into a spiral.
Kosim took a heavy stomp forward and crossed his arm. Blood gushed out and gathered in front of him.
“Blood hardening.”
His eyes flashed. Liquid blood became solid.
The beam crashed into the hardened wall of blood with a deafening boom, sparks and fragments scattering.
Kosim’s arms clenched under the strain, boots grinding against the floor as he was shifted back a few steps before he dug in, holding firm against the attack.
He roared and took a heavy step forward, blasting the beam of vita away. Kosim heaved a heavy breath, body tense, ready for anything.
But his eyes almost popped when he saw Malakai launching himself upwards. He tore through the ceiling, heading towards the surface.
“I won’t let you escape!”
Blood burst out from him, encasing him in an armor of crimson. He ignored the collapsing base and shot upwards, tearing through the ceilings.
…
Sylvastein was somewhat a new city when compared to the other ancients of the west.
Since its formation, never had they experienced a city wide threat before. And never would anyone expect it to happen anytime soon.
It was mainly due to this that people flocked to Sylvastein. The promise of peace. Of life without calamity.
Sylvastein is a happy city. Most nights, people wandered around, either partying, gambling or having fun. Tonight was such a night. At least, it was supposed to be.
