Evolution of the Ruined Heir - Chapter 328: Death

Chapter 328: Death
Practically everyone inside the dome had come across a darkness creature at least once.
They had seen their horror. They had witnessed their hunger. Their insatiable desire to rip humans apart until there was nothing left.
Their reason for hating humanity was still very much unknown, but their threat was clear.
Regardless, every human that encountered a darkness creature had always said the same thing, they felt the aura of death wash over them. A chilling sensation, like their entire existence was wrong.
It was that wave of wrongness that spread across the entire stronghold the moment the vita veil shattered.
For a moment, no one moved. No one breathed.
A chill ran through the stronghold. Bodies began to shake, hearts began to thunder, eyes trembled. People soiled themselves. Yet, no one dared to move.
Panic. Dread. Despair.
All gripped the people like an iron vice.
People felt like they were already dead. They could glimpse themselves becoming the darkness. It was an inevitability that settled in their hearts the moment the aura of death bathed the stronghold.
People turned, slowly, shakily, towards the source. Three figures hovered in the air. The majority couldn’t see that far clearly, but others could.
The three were of different appearance.
The first was large beyond measure, beyond any man. Hands and legs bigger than multiple heads stacked together, chest toned and ripped, and a diminutive head. Its eyes were full white, hardened and filled with intelligence. An enhancer.
The second was much smaller in size. Slender, without a hint of muscles in sight. Its white eyes were filled with intelligence, and multiple shadows flicked around it as though begging to be released. A summoner.
The last hovered between the other two. Its body was more toned than the summoner, bigger too. There was a mad grin on its face, and it stared down at the millions of people like it’d found prey.
A wave of darkness continuously radiated from it, spreading across the entire stronghold. Those it touched felt control over their bodies escape them.
Even those of the synergy stage were no different. The only exception were blooms, and from their gritted teeth and darkened expression it was clear; it wasn’t easy.
A corrupter.
Three figures. Three grade four creatures. Three beings of unfathomable power had just appeared.
As their presence was declared, time seemed to resume in the world. It was then the people caught sight of the crimson streak tearing through the skies, crashing down with force.
The streak gouged deep trenches into the paved streets, trails like fresh canyons splitting the city apart. It slammed into a towering structure, the entire frame groaning before crumbling like sand.
Dust exploded outward in a choking wave, engulfing everything.
Still, no one could move… except Malakai and Rhett.
Malakai’s heart thundered hard in his chest. And though he believed that no one was more nervous than he was right now, there was no denying Rhett’s darkened gaze.
They reached the haze, bursting through it the next moment.
As they landed by the source, a blast erupted from both of them, clearing the haze. Their eyes landed on the aftermath.
Through a broken hole of a blood dome, was Nyx’s battered figure. A fist indentation marred her stomach, deep, brutal. Her crimson eyes were filled with agony, and blood spilled from her mouth.
Behind her were the ragged figures of Laila, Grunde, Karla, Unoa, Whiteshade and surprisingly the clan head of the Sutrex and some other blooms.
’She kept them safe.’
Malakai blasted into the dome. Nyx’s eyes flew wide, shocked by the sudden movement.
She clenched her teeth and fought through the pain. She was about to move when a familiar voice reached her ears.
“Nyx.”
Nyx froze. That voice was one she could never forget. “M-Malakai?” she called out.
The green streak of light reached her at that moment, and her eyes landed on a face she could never forget. Malakai.
“You’re alive.”
Nyx didn’t miss the tears that spilled from the corner of his eyes before he hugged her.
Despite the agony raging through her body, a smile still appeared on her bloodied lips. It felt good… good to be worried about. Somehow, it made all the hell worth it.
The next moment, and as though remembering where he was, Malakai left the hug, wiping his tears with one fluid swipe of his sleeve.
His expression shifted, slipping back into his cold mask. Nyx couldn’t help but mourn his earlier smile.
“I’ll heal you.”
Nyx narrowed her eyes. Heal her? At this point only a grade four Vitaeon could heal her fully.
Because she was protecting the others, she had attempted to block a strike from the grade four Enhancer but ended up regretting it instead.
The punch had torn right through her blood dome and hit her stomach. If Nyx hadn’t hardened her blood and used ’blood cushion’ to protect her organs in time, she would have been dead by now.
Regardless, words would not describe her shock when an incredible amount of vita surged through her body.
She felt her body healing at breakneck speed, her shattered bones snapping into place, her torn muscles mending. It was then she finally noticed Malakai’s power.
’How?’ she couldn’t help but wonder. But her eyes sharpened as she noticed Malakai’s frown.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, concerned. “Please don’t push yourself.” The last thing she wanted was Malakai harming himself for her sake.
Malakai gritted his teeth. “I’m sorry, Nyx, but this is the best I can do.”
Nyx smiled. “It’s okay.”
Though she said this, it didn’t change the dread that settled in his heart.
’I’m running out of vita.’ He had used too much power, and healing a bloom seemed to have pushed him to the brink.
Once his vita was depleted, he would lose consciousness. Only death awaited him when that happened.
’I need more vita.’
Malakai turned to Rhett who was busy hugging Laila tightly.
“Give me all your cores.” he said quickly.
They were all confused for a moment, but Rhett nodded and quickly threw two grade three cores towards him. “That’s all I have.”
Malakai caught them and to Rhett’s shock, threw them inside his mouth. His aura surged even more.
“What the hell…” Malakai made it so that only Nyx and Rhett had seen him. Even Nyx was speechless.
