Evolution of the Ruined Heir - Chapter 329: Hey Beautiful

Chapter 329: Hey Beautiful
“Any more?” Malakai glanced towards the others who shook their heads with a darkened expression.
Regardless, more vita surged from Malakai, healing Nyx to an acceptable level.
Nyx’s eyes were inquisitive, but she didn’t ask. She took his arm and stood.
Just as Malakai was about to address the group, a shudder ran through his entire body. He felt three pairs of eyes land on him.
Except, they were akin to mountains in weight more than anything.
Of course. Malakai wasn’t surprised that of the millions in the city, the darkness creatures had somehow narrowed in on him.
’The life essence.’ He was currently using it, which meant every darkness in the entire city had locked onto him.
He was public enemy number one.
Then the voices came.
“What is this? What is this? A spawn of life, here? How filthy. How lucky. The master would be pleased.”
“Ahhh, the joy of so much prey. Of inevitable darkness. It’s beautiful.”
It sounded like people simply conversing with one another, yet their words traveled across the entire stronghold.
The shudder that went through many at that moment was hard to believe. And despite his power, Malakai clenched his fist, trying to steady his beating heart.
’Three grade fours… can we win?’
The odds were not in their favor. More death would only bring more of them, and in a city of millions, a battle of such scale would mean the end of Sylvastein.
“Arise.”
The single word stilled the air. The sound itself seemed to press against the chest, suffocating. Malakai’s eyes narrowed on the one who had spoken.
’The Summoner.’
From its shadowed frame, darkness poured. It seeped like ink across the ground, staining streets, walls, and skies. The tide spread in every direction, an ocean of black swallowing kilometers in an instant.
Then, from within it, forms began to claw their way out. Hands of gnarled shadow, legs dragging against the earth, faceless heads twisting as they emerged.
They came in droves, unending, until the entire horizon seemed to writhe with their silhouettes.
In the next moment, an incalculable number of darkness creatures filled the world.
The Summoner’s expression never changed, seemingly bored, detached.
With a flick of its hand, the army rushed forward, descending on the city like a flood.
It was at that moment reality slammed down on the people. Their senses snapped back.
Screams shattered the silence. Panic erupted.
Men and women scrambled over one another, trampling without thought. Children were ripped from their parents’ arms in the crush.
Blood guardians and knights tried to rally, but the tide was too fast. The city of Sylvastein became a slaughterhouse.
Malakai found his heart beating faster than it had ever beaten before. ’Shit shit shit.’ The thought thundered in his head. How could they survive this? Should they run? Escape?
’No.’
They had locked onto him already. They would chase him. Then how…
Malakai’s eyes sharpened. The life essence had just rumbled through him. Malakai could feel something besides the endless hunger.
’It’s angry.’
It was the first time he had ever felt this. And there was only one cause, the darkness creatures. He felt it requesting something.
’More vita.’
Images screamed into Malakai’s mind. The Gor’Mekhai settlement. What he had discovered during his journey to their coven. The Vitaeon fountain.
Malakai’s eyes snapped open. He knew what he had to do!
“Nyx, we have to go to—”
“You will die, successor of life.”
Malakai froze. That wrong voice sounded too close. His eyes flickered to the side. A massive fist was tearing towards him.
The enhancer.
Even before he’d seen the fist, Malakai knew he couldn’t evade it.
’I’ll have to block.’
He would end up injured, maybe dead. A grade four enhancer’s punch wasn’t something he could defend against. Regardless, there was no choice.
Vita began surging towards his front, forming into a shield. But before the fist could land, he felt a strong hand grip his shoulder followed by a pull.
Malakai found himself high in the air the next moment. But the missed fist still impacted the ground.
Boom!
The stronghold convulsed. The force spiderwebbed out in all directions. Streets split apart like torn parchment, entire districts shuddering as if the earth beneath them had snapped.
Buildings closest to the strike disintegrated, reduced to clouds of stone dust and molten shards. Farther ones crumbled in sequence, toppling into each other.
The shockwave howled through the city, flattening structures, hurling bodies and beasts through the air.
“Malakai!”
Malakai heard Nyx shout his name, but it did little to take his eyes off the destruction below. The entire city was covered in a thick haze.
He could feel the chill. Thousands had just died.
The grip on his shoulder tightened and he finally tore his gaze away from the destruction. Nyx gripped him by his shoulder, eyes filled with blood lust.
Rhett was just by her side, having secured the surviving people inside a blood dome.
The scene snapped Malakai back. His expression hardened and the order tore out from his mouth.
“You have to get me to the Gor’Mekhai settlement now! That’s our only way out of this.”
Nyx and Rhett’s eyes sharpened, comprehending.
Just then, a streak of black tore out from the thick haze of the city. Malakai caught sight of the rippling enhancer until it was upon them again, fist screaming out like a collapsing sky.
“Crimson Eclipse.”
“Blood rend.”
A metallic stench flooded the air. The skies bathed in scarlet light as Nyx and Rhett surged forward, fist and spear roaring towards the coming strike.
And then they landed.
Bang!
The impact was brief but immense, tearing the haze apart and blasting the air into a hurricane.
Malakai was hurled back, his body spinning through the chaos.
’Shit!’ The thought thundered in his head but before he could regain his balance—
“Hey, beautiful.”
His eyes widened. He snapped to the side.
The Corrupter was tearing towards him, its grin wide, its presence smothering the air.
