Extra's Death: I Am the Son of Hades - Chapter 709: Hanma Family Necromancy

Chapter 709: Hanma Family Necromancy
Cerberus, stilled under Neo’s touch, lowered all of its three heads obediently.
Just then, they heard sound of footsteps echo through the chamber.
Jack turned his head just in time to see her enter.
A woman stepped through the tall doors, her long black robe flowing behind her.
Silver embroidery caught the dim light and shimmered faintly as she walked.
Her hair fell like a curtain down her back, and her golden eyes scanned the hall.
The moment her gaze landed on Neo, her brows drew together in confusion.
“…Who?”
She could not recognize the Grim Reaper before her.
It took her a moment to recall she had seen in during Zagreus’ Shadow Trail.
At the same time, she noticed Jack.
Her confusion hardened into something else.
Her posture shifted, almost imperceptibly.
Her shoulders tensed and her aura sharpened.
She was ready to act if needed.
Neo raised his hand in a casual wave. “It’s me, Neo, Gremory.”
She froze.
Her body trembled just slightly, and for a few seconds it looked like she couldn’t move at all.
Then she exhaled slowly, straightened, and dipped her head in acknowledgment.
“Welcome back, Second Prince.”
It seems she had expected him to be Neo back then already.
Jack scratched the side of his nose, glancing between the two of them.
He sent a telepathic message to Neo, his voice dry. ’Is it just me, or do these grim reapers dote on you? They respected Layla too, but with you it feels different. Almost like they care more about you than they should.’
Neo didn’t answer.
Instead, Gremory gestured politely. “You must be exhausted after the travel, prince. Please follow me. I will bring you to a place that help you relax.”
The three of them left the hall together.
Cerberus followed Neo, wagging its tail.
She took them to an opulent chamber.
The tea room was quiet, lit by a few lanterns with flickering blue flame.
Gremory poured with steady hands, filling each porcelain cup before sitting down across from them.
She studied Jack carefully, her expression neutral but her golden eyes never leaving him.
Neo broke the silence first. “Is it alright to bring Jack here?”
Gremory’s gaze shifted slightly.
For a long moment, Gremory watched Jack.
Neo could guess what was behind that look.
She and Jack had likely fought before. Layla’s orders would have pitted them against each other.
Gremory must be thinking about apologizing.
But an apology to a mortal would lower the pride of a Grim Reaper, so she stayed silent.
Finally, she spoke. “It is fine. Jack is considered dead. Normally, one like him who enters this place would not be allowed to leave again, but since he is following the prince, exceptions can be made.”
Neo tilted his head. “Isn’t it a problem that he’s a necromancer? The underworld has never been fond of them.”
Jack’s lips twitched. He wasn’t sure if Neo was trying to help him or bury him deeper in trouble.
Thankfully, Gremory shook her head.
“The necromancy of the Hanma family is different. They bind part of their own souls into the corpses they command.
“That is unlike traditional necromancy, which either manipulates a corpse’s lingering malice or drags back the departed’s soul.
“Because of that, the underworld holds less hostility toward the Hanma lineage.”
Her words slowed, and then she looked directly at Jack.
“Also… the one of the Hanma family who serves among us left a strong impression. Her upright attitude and loyalty to the balance of death is still praised.
“It is one of the reasons we will look away from necromancy of Hanma family as long as they don’t cross the line.”
Jack stiffened, the muscles in his shoulders tensing.
He knew exactly who she meant.
Neo didn’t push the subject. Instead, he set his cup down and asked, “Where is Nyx?”
“She is hunting rogue souls on another House,” Gremory answered. “Should I call her back?”
House were what continents were called in Underworld.
Forest of Beginning was House where souls from Luminera continent came.
Neo shook his head. “No. We’ll go to her ourselves. Don’t tell her we’re coming.”
Gremory inclined her head. “As you wish.”
The room fell silent for a time.
Jack busied himself with the tea, drinking slowly, while Neo’s eyes shifted to the window.
The underworld outside was nothing like what he remembered.
Wide, paved roads stretched through the city.
There were billboards lit with glowing runes, bright images shifting every few seconds.
Vehicles of all kinds rolled by, some pulled by spectral beasts and others running on what looked like mechanical cores.
People walked with phones pressed to their ears, some with earphones plugged in as faint traces of music leaked into the air.
Cafes lined the streets, filled with chatter.
Even Jack seemed distracted by the sight. Though Neo could tell in his case it was half an excuse to avoid thinking about their upcoming meeting with Nyx.
Gremory noticed Neo’s gaze. “The underworld has undergone great transformation. We’ve made many advancements.”
Neo’s smile tightened slightly.
The more she explained, the stranger his expression became.
Capitalism had found its way here.
He could already imagine the thoughts of souls who arrived after death.
’Isn’t that the same billboard advertisement I saw before my accident?’
He rubbed his forehead and finally asked, “Who was behind all these changes?”
“The current Rank One Grim Reaper disciple,” Gremory replied. “Leonora von Villers.”
Jack raised a brow, surprised by the name.
Neo pressed his hand to his face, sighing quietly.
Of course it was her.
After a long pause, Neo said, “We’ll be leaving soon.”
Gremory gave him the location of Nyx without argument.
Once they left, Jack glanced at the note she had given them. “It’s pretty far from here, even considering the distances between Houses.”
Neo placed a hand on his shoulder. “That’s not a problem.”
Jack didn’t have time to ask before Neo took a step forward.
The world shifted.
They were suddenly standing on rocky ground with the blood sea stretching behind them.
Jack looked around.
They had arrived at Nyx’s location in an instant.
He exhaled slowly, shaking his head.
“…I’m not even surprised anymore by the things you can do.”
