- Chapter 510 510: Back to Lycas

“Papa…” Lillia said while looking up, she was standing on a small chair at the Bathroom sink and both Father and Daughter were brushing their teeth.
“Yes Lillia.” Azel said as he continued brushing.
Lillia bit her lip. Even when she was standing on this chair, she wasn’t even as tall as him. Maybe if she hovered…
The foam from the toothpaste was already building up in her mouth, but she kept brushing in the regular way Papa had taught her.
Up and down on the back teeth, gentle circles on the front ones, and don’t forget the tongue.
She watched him in the mirror.
He looked tired… not the kind of tiredness that sleep fixed, but the deeper kind that made his eyes look distant sometimes when he thought no one was watching.
“I think you forgot something.” Lillia said around her toothbrush.
“Something? What’s that?” Azel asked.
The girls were making dinner. Everyone was spending time with each other and he hadn’t even received a letter from the Emperor for work. It was a splendid evening after all.
He spat out into the sink and turned on the tap, washing the paste down the drain.
Lillia spat out too, mimicking him. Her white foam swirled down after his.
“That world we went to last time… for magic training.” Lillia said and Azel spat out even more, using his hand to clean his mouth.
His whole body went rigid.
“Fuck!” He let out but then his eyes widened as he looked at Lillia. “Don’t repeat that…”
Lillia blinked, still holding her toothbrush. She’d heard that word before from some of the guards in town, but never from Papa.
‘It must be really bad if Papa said it.’
“I shouldn’t repeat that? What’s wrong with fuck?” Lillia blinked innocently and Azel fell onto his knees.
It was a habit to watch your mouth around the children less they would pick up bad habits. He’d failed spectacularly just now.
“It’s a bad word.” He said, gripping the edge of the sink.
“If it’s a bad word… why did you say it?”
“It was a mistake. You shouldn’t say that or I’ll be angry with you.” Azel said and her expression trembled for a bit.
She didn’t like when Papa was angry with her. It made her chest feel tight and wrong, like she’d done something terrible even when she didn’t mean to.
“Alright Papa, I won’t say fuck anymore.” Lillia said and Azel shook her by the hands.
“You’re still saying it… Don’t let Edna hea-“
The door creaked open and Azel slowly turned around to look at his wife brandishing a spoon that had spices on it. She had clearly been turning the stew.
Steam rose from the spoon. The scent of paprika and garlic filled the bathroom.
“So this is what you’re teaching our daughter behind my back?” Edna asked with a betrayed expression and Azel took Lillia’s hand.
“It’s not like that… Lillia, explain.” Azel said however the girl refused to speak.
Lillia looked down at her feet. She wasn’t about to throw Papa under the carriage, even if Edna looked scary right now with that spoon.
Besides, she’d learned a long time ago that staying quiet when adults were fighting was usually the smart choice and Let them work it out themselves.
Edna’s eye twitched and the spoon rose higher.
“Edna, wait, I can explain-“
The spoon came down with a satisfying thwack against his head.
…
Azel walked down the hallway shortly after with a bump in his head and Edna clinging to his sides with a joyful smile on her face.
The bump throbbed. Edna had good aim with that spoon, he’d give her that. She’d managed to hit the exact same spot twice.
He rubbed at it gingerly.
“Right, when you guys left Lepruen town… did you see any markings on the wall in my room?” Azel asked.
That was the teleportation link. He would use it to go back to Lycas as he had a feeling his territory was in shambles.
More or less, it wasn’t that he didn’t trust Selene but still, he had to make sure.
Two plus months was a long time to leave a territory unattended. Anything could have happened. Raids, monster attacks… literally anything, they were werewolves after all.
“Oh yes those markings.” Edna said as she lifted her storage ring. “Lillia and Feng said it was important and we weren’t able to just take the mark like that so we tore off the whole part of that wall for it.”
Azel’s eyes twitched. Did they really have to be so brute about it?
He imagined the scene. His children, probably with Edna supervising, just ripping an entire section of wall out of the house. Well at least he had already paid in advance.
The part of the wall with the red marking appeared in her hand and she handed it over to him. It was a chunk of plaster and wood about the size of a dinner plate, the teleportation circle glowing faintly in the center.
Bits of wallpaper still clung to the edges.
“Here hubby.” She said and Azel took it with a grateful smile and he leaned in, giving her a peck on the lips.
“Thank you.” Azel said. “I’ll make it up to you all later.”
And with that, he ran off in the direction of the room leaving Edna blushing as she touched her lips.
‘No matter how many times we kiss, his lips always taste sweet.’ She thought.
She couldn’t wait for the next time she was in his room for those sweet lips to eat her out again. Just thinking about it made her thighs press together.
“No fair…” Lillia who was walking ahead of them turned to Edna. “Mama got to kiss Papa.”
Edna looked at her daughter and gave a triumphant smile. “Why wouldn’t I kiss him? He’s my husband…”
“I’m his daughter, he should kiss me too.” Lillia said with a puff of her cheeks.
Her little face scrunched up in that way that made her look even younger than she was. For all her magical talent and precociousness, she was still just a child.
“You’re too haughty to be kissed… Why would Papa want to kiss a daughter that’s stressing him all the time?” Edna asked and Lillia’s face turned distraught.
“Stressing him? I’m…”
Her voice got small. She hadn’t meant to stress Papa. She just wanted to be a good daughter and learn magic and make him proud.
Was she doing it wrong? She tried so hard to be helpful, to not be a burden like other kids.
Edna walked over to Lillia and carried her up.
The girl was getting heavier and growing fast. Soon Edna wouldn’t be able to carry her like this anymore.
“That’s not what I meant. You see, when you call him Father instead of Papa… it makes papa very stressed. He even told me about it.” Edna said.
“But I haven’t done it since he came bac-“
“Exactly, that’s why Papa is happy. We should also make you up for dinner so Papa would want to give you a big kiss on the forehead.” Edna said and turned to her daughter. “You want it?”
“Y-yes mama…”
Lillia’s eyes lit up at the prospect and with that, Edna ran off with Lillia still in her arms with their destination being her room.
They passed Mira in the hallway, who gave them a look but didn’t ask. The mansion had gotten used to random bursts of activity.
…
“What is this place you’re going to…?” Gwendolyn asked as she noticed him setting down the piece of wall onto the bed. “Is it somewhere strange?”
“Believe it or not… I have my own territory. However I’ve been gone for a long time so I need to hurry back.” Azel replied and then he poured mana into the mark.
The red lines began to glow brighter, pulsing with energy. The circle activated with a hum that vibrated through the air.
It began glowing and it swallowed Azel completely.
The familiar sensation of teleportation pulled at his body, twisting reality for just a moment before depositing him somewhere else entirely.
He blinked his eyes as he appeared in the bedroom.
He half expected the room to be blown apart however it was cleaner than ever, though there were even more pictures of him.
This time they were even on the ground and some of them were broken as if someone was lying on them.
The frames were cracked. Glass shards littered the floor near the bed and some of the photos had tear stains on them, the paper was warped and wrinkled from moisture.
‘Oh damn, what the hell?’
He walked through them carefully, avoiding the broken glass, and opened the door. The King’s Mansion in Lycas was still in perfect condition.
The hallways were spotless… there were fresh flowers in vases and everything was dusted and maintained.
Gwendolyn floated ahead and spun, her breasts shook as she did.
“This is a beautiful place~” She let out and Azel was surprised she didn’t comment on the photos in the room.
Maybe she was being tactful for once. Or maybe she just hadn’t noticed the sheer obsessive quantity of them.
He closed the door behind him and looked at the hallways. There was at least one picture before each staircase, one with him and Selene.
More pictures lined the walls than before… way more. It was bordering on obsessive at this point.
Every five feet, another framed photo. He made a mental note to have a conversation with Selene about boundaries.
Azel slowly walked downstairs and Gwendolyn floated after him. He hadn’t even seen Irene, Ravik or the maids. Hell, his black crown wasn’t even here.
The mansion felt empty despite being well-maintained though there was commotion outside.
There were voices… lots of them and he could hear… crying?
“Let’s go check.” He ran downstairs and even passed by the Daily Reward box.
He hadn’t claimed the rewards for two months plus so he was interested in what would happen. That was over sixty days worth of rewards just sitting there waiting.
Either that or the System would try and pull another trick on him again but all that could wait.
The front doors of the Lord’s mansion were opened and once he reached there, it seemed every member of Lycas was gathered even along the roads leading to the front of the mansion as they let firecrackers go into the air.
The entire population. Hundreds of werewolves and even the Dar tribe. They filled the streets, packed shoulder to shoulder.
Black banners hung from every building. Memorial wreaths lined the road and it looked as if someone had built what looked like a shrine near the mansion gates.
Wearing his crown amongst the other werewolves and even the Dars was Selene.
She had grown mature. He swore her breasts were perkier and even her face had lost some of its youthful roundness.
Two months had changed her… She looked older and more tired.
She was crying.
Tears streamed down her face openly as she held a portrait of Azel against her chest.
“In honor of our Lord who has died!” She let out as several more fireworks crackled in the air. “This is the third month we’ve been without our Lord and I still miss him!”
Her voice cracked on the last word.
Several other werewolves were crying as well and even Ravik collapsed on the ground with his dirty blond hair in a puddle of tears.
“He was the best Lord we ever had!” Someone shouted from the crowd.
“He saved us from starvation!”
“He gave us purpose!”
The entire population of Lycas was in mourning. Black ribbons hung from windows. Flowers were piled near the mansion steps, wilting in the evening air.
They thought he was dead.
Gwendolyn’s eyes twitched as she saw them.
“They’re mourning your death?” Gwendolyn asked and looked at him. “But you’re alive.”
“They think I died because I stopped coming…” Azel said. “I might have neglected them quite a bit…”
He felt a pang of guilt twist in his chest.
These people had built their lives around his leadership… They’d trusted him and he’d vanished without a word. It made him sound like a villain and that was the last thing he remotely was.
“My Lady, My Lord is right there!” One werewolf called out and all the werewolves stopped crying simultaneously while turning to the front door of the Lord’s mansion.
The sudden silence was deafening as hundreds of eyes locked onto him.
Azel was standing there and looking at them, though his ears were a bit longer, all of them could smell that it was the real Azel.
The scent didn’t lie. Werewolves could always tell… Magic could create illusions, but it couldn’t replicate someone’s unique scent.
In a burst of wind that blew several Werewolves away, Selene shot toward him like a bullet while extending her hands out.
The portrait fell from her grip as it was quickly forgotten.
“My Lord!!!!” She let out and Azel extended his hands as well with a sigh.
They met and he spun her before closing the hug, it was the only way to redirect all that force. She hugged him tightly and he swore his bones felt like they were going to break.
Her enhanced strength was no joke.
He could feel his ribs creaking.
“You’re alive! You’re really alive! You’re not a hallucination!”
Her voice cracked. Her whole body was shaking against him. She buried her face in his chest and he could feel her tears soaking through his shirt.
“I thought… I thought you were dead. I thought I’d never see you again. I thought-“
Azel patted her head as he wanted to hear what had happened these past few months however the ground began shaking.
Everyone was running toward him. The werewolf children, the adults, the Dars… everyone was making a beeline toward him and he raised a hand.
The crowd was like an unstoppable tidal wave.
“Stop! You’ll crush us under your-“
They jumped.
All of them… at once.
A mass of bodies launching into the air with supernatural coordination.
“My Lordddd!!!!”
Within moments of coming to Lycas, Azel had been encased in hugs that could crush a giant.
