First Demonic Dragon - Chapter 1153: Ressurection

Chapter 1153: Ressurection
Gulban was beside himself.
He sat on the side of a great tree trunk as he drank until he could no longer count his own fingers.
“Oh, lass… this was never supposed to happen to you, or me, or… any of us.” He slurred. “World’s gotten too damn chaotic lately, and I… I don’t think I even know which way is up anymore.”
Gulban brought the bottle to his lips once again, only to realize that it was empty.
He chucked the bottle over his shoulder and reached for another in the case he’d brought.
“Look at this…I thought life without my powers was bad. That it was hollowing. But now that I’ve lost you, I truly feel as if I have nothing left… How do mortals do this?
Simply let friends go and pick up and move on as if no tragedy had occurred..? I’m not strong enough for that, lass. I’m not strong enough for this.
I know if you were around, you’d call me a big pussy and tell me to pull my knickers out of my arse and be a man.
And someday in the future… maybe I’ll be able to. But for right now, I just want to stew in my negativity for a bit…”
Three loud gulps followed Gulban’s depressing eulogy.
He released an abrupt burp as he hung his head as low as it could possibly go.
Tears of molten fire rolled down his cheek and melted into his beard.
“Grandpa!”
“W-Wha- Who’s that!?”
Gulban rubbed his face hard and looked around for the latest voices coming towards him.
With his body drunk and impaired, he stumbled and fell on the ground from trying to swing around too abruptly.
A glowing white muzzle pressed against Gulban’s back.
He felt himself be set upright gently, and his vision slowly focused to show him a familiar white deer the size of a monster truck.
Gulban smiled haphazardly.
“Sorry, lassie… You shouldn’t have to see your old man this low.”
There was movement on top of the deer’s head, and a beautiful, blue-haired woman poked her face into view.
“It’s okay! We’ve seen Dad after Alabama loses a championship game! This is pretty tame, actually.”
Gulban was completely undecided as to whether or not that made him feel better or worse.
“I’ll… keep that in mind. What are the two of you doing here anyway?”
“Nubby’s been smoking crack-” Yemaya was suddenly flung off her sister’s head and went flying into the tree trunk.
“I have not been smoking anything!” Nubia defended. “I just had an idea, and sure, it’s a little far out there, but-”
“What’s the idea, lassie?” Gulban rubbed his granddaughter on the snout.
Nubia took a deep breath. “…I want to bring Yggdrasil back to life.”
Gulban was already drunk.
The range of emotions he felt once he heard his granddaughter’s plans was nothing short of overwhelming.
His brain could not wrestle with his feelings of hope, impossibility, and delirium.
So, he collapsed without making so much as a sound.
Nubia returned to her normal appearance and draped her fluffy white pelt over his body.
“…I think that means we got his approval.” Nubia smiled.
Yemaya slowly floated down towards her sister while giving her a bitter look.
“Nubby… I know you and Yggdrasil were close, but this is…”
“Don’t tell me it’s not possible.” Nubia stepped away.
“Sister, we barely understand anything about the biology of world trees to begin with; they keep all of that knowledge to themselves! There’s no way in hell to know if we can bring her back to life when her very essence has been burnt up.”
“Well, we have to try. She deserves that, at the very least. A-And maybe she can tell us who hurt her in the first place, then-”
“You’re not getting it, sister. Even if we could do this, and that’s an extremely large and questionable if, the Yggdrasil we revived would not be the same as the one we knew before. Her soul is gone, Nubia. Everything about her went with it.”
Nubia was already aware of that fact. It was one of the more painful truths she had been trying not to think about since she got this idea into her head.
But she had cared for Yggdrasil fondly. The tree was foul-mouthed and a little bit rambunctious, but she had her sweet, adorable moments.
She had never bothered anyone. She didn’t deserve to have her very soul shredded away like that.
Nubia would give her life again if it were the last thing she did.
“Please… can we at least try?”
Yemaya was not an unfeeling woman. Because her sister had asked so desperately, she did not have the strength necessary to tell her no.
“…Fine. What do you need?”
Nubia grinned innocently.
–
“You ready?”
“Ready!”
“Go!”
Yemaja’s hair suddenly became a roaring tidal wave over two hundred meters high.
The waters rushed toward the ancient dry tree trunk and soaked the wood in it’s healing, protective waters.
Nubia flew up to the top of the tree.
In her hand, she created a miniature sun that gradually grew larger and larger.
Nubia left the sun hanging a safe distance away from the leaves so as not to accidentally set the tree on fire.
“We should have brought Apophis for this part!” Yemaya yelled.
“He couldn’t be bothered! I walked in on him giving Tiamat a baby oil massage!”
“Gross!”
“Exactly!”
Nubia let her body sink to the base of the tree.
She crawled over the ancient roots and placed her hands against the hard surface.
Nubia pressed her body against the tree roots and lay down on top of them gently.
Her hands began to glow as she gently caressed the roots. As she did this, her lips moved rhythmically in a silent chant.
An aura of green light surrounded the tree like a dense fog.
Brilliant green vines sprang up all across it’s gargantuan surface.
The vines produced flowers of the richest colors of the rainbow. Their sweet-smelling nectar filled Nubia’s nostrils even from hundreds of feet below.
Hope rose in Nubia’s chest. She could feel her power working.
She continued to press forward, imbuing more and more of her energy into the tree.
All around her, new and fantastical phenomena were taking place on Yggdrasil’s roots and branches. But Nubia didn’t care about any of that. Not until she made her dream come true.
And finally, there was a great change.
The roots of the tree rumbled furiously.
Suddenly, a large bulb the size of a go-kart sprang up from out of nowhere.
As the petals unfolded, Nubia smiled in earnest.
Tears filled her eyes as she heard some of the sweetest cries to ever grace her ears.
