First Demonic Dragon - Chapter 1195: Against the Greater Forces

Chapter 1195: Against the Greater Forces
Abaddon had little to no time to react as his own power raced toward him like an arc of terrible destruction.
Time slowed down for him as he began to erect his perfected shield spell to cover himself and his daughters.
But there was too much area to cover, and he shield needed nanoseconds to fully form.
That was the first time that he had such little wiggle room in a battle.
Abaddon shut his eyes tightly and dug deeply into his new powers.
He mentally willed time to move faster for him, and only him.
He felt a great amount of energy leave him, and a thread seemed to snap in his brain.
When he reopened his eyes, Abaddon did two things.
For one, he sent Gabbrielle and Mira away, tossing them into Eden and slamming the door closed.
Next, he made sure that he and Thea were protected by a divine wall of pink light.
As the whole world sped up again, he felt a terrible wave of weakness seize him.
Biting his lip to prevent his consciousness from growing dark, Abaddon watched as the beam of his own power that he thought was going to strike him, went completely over his head…
Instead, the attack sailed towards a distant timeline unobstructed and tore threw it like a knife through construction paper.
Abaddon watched as the entire timeline became destabilized and exploded, filling the boundless void in between realms with a glaring shower of colors.
Caligo suddenly had on sunglasses and held Fourth of July-themed sparklers.
“Ah… Such novelty. It really does do the spirit good like nothing else.”
The demented goddess tipped down her glasses and stared at Abaddon while trying to hold in a laugh.
“Pfft.. You really should’ve seen your face..! It was as if you were under the impression I was going to harm you or something! How gullible can one be!” Her cackling grated against his ears like nails against a chalkboard.
Abaddon breathed heavily as he landed inside his barrier to try and recover some strength.
“Oh, this looks fun. It could use a slight alteration though, if I’m honest..”
Abaddon’s eyes suddenly widened when Caligo suddenly took control of his spell and altered it, placing a door right in front that she could just walk right through.
“…MUCH better. It gives the space a much more homey feel, don’t you think? If you stay cooped up, then I might get the unfounded idea that you don’t want me around… and family shouldn’t be like that, should they? We go back so far!”
Abaddon’s only remaining focus was on Thea. Caligo was far more dangerous than he had initially anticipated, and he didn’t know if he could protect her adequately.
‘Thea… I want you to listen to me carefully.’ Abaddon thought. ‘On the count of three, I need you to stop working on the timeline and get into the portal I make under you-‘
‘But dad, if I stop when it’s not done, then the whole thing will blow!’
‘It won’t be any bigger than the blast that just ensued, I assure you!’
‘Maybe not, but this one’s way too close to the original timeline! An explosion here will take out both, you know that!’
Abaddon ground his teeth together.
‘Please, just give me a few more minutes so I can finish this! And then when I get done, I can help you with-‘
‘No, you’re not going to help me with anything! You’re a mother now, Thea, you have to be safe and think about your children!’
“And YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT ME!” Thea yelled at her father with hot tears in her eyes.
Caligo seemed to find the sight amusing. She appeared at the young princess’ side and wiped her wet cheek with the pads of her fingers.
“Having a private conversation, are we..? That stings a bit..” Caligo unveiled a forked tongue covered with ridges. She licked away the tears on her fingers as if they were the most enriching delicacy. “Though this sweetness does make up for it..”
“GET AWAY FROM HER!”
With a surge of energy that Abaddon didn’t possess, Abaddon inserted himself between his daughter and Caligo and tackled her.
Chaos seemed more taken aback by the attack than she was injured by it.
She tapped her chin in deep contemplation as she was driven away from Thea.
“…I’m afraid I don’t understand the point of this.”
Suddenly, it was as if Abaddon was trying to push a wall out of place as a normal human. Caligo had stopped allowing herself to be propelled through the air.
Abaddon’s eyes widened.
“…Is this one of those ‘hugs’ I always hear about? Oh, I’ve always wanted to try this.>!”
Caligo suddenly wrapped her arms around Abaddon’s massive frame, holding him in place. She squeezed him tightly until his bones creaked and his muscles bruised.
Abaddon smashed his forehead into hers several times in quick succession.
With every blow, Caligo didn’t so much as tilt her head back.
However, she still gave Abadddon a wounded gaze.
“This thing you’re doing… It’s not because you wanted to hurt me, isn’t it? SO you didn’t want a hug after all!?”
Caligo looked past Abaddon towards Thea.
When she looked back at him again, her gaze was as cold as ice.
“You weren’t doing something unnecessary like trying to keep me away from that delicious little girl, were you? That would be a waste because…”
Eight more copies appeared around Abaddon, touching him inappropriately and whispering in his ears. “I am everywhere~.”
When the extra bodies disappeared, Caligo grabbed hold of Abaddon’s jaw and held it so hard that he thought it would break.
His pride stung. He was running out of options.
His final and only unused trump card was the sin of envy. It was perhaps the only thing he possessed that could turn the tide.
But he wasn’t intimidated by Caligo. Nor was he afraid of her.
He just hated her. And that alone stopped the activation of his powers.
“You have forgotten our laws, old man… or… maybe you never knew them. You’re so confusing, so confusing, so damned confusing that I just..” Caligo reached for her head as if she was going to rip her own hair out.
Instead, she embedded her claws in the side of her skull and raked them down the side of her face to calm herself.
“…It doesn’t matter.” She finished, much calmer than before. “Just know that I haven’t come here to harm you. You should take comfort in that.”
The fact that Abaddon had his heart ripped out earlier made that all too difficult to believe.
“Oh, I know that look… You don’t believe me, right?” Caligo sighed. “Wellll… you’re half right. Just because I didn’t come here to harm you, that does not mean that I’m not hoping for harm to befall you.” She grinned.
Abaddon began struggling to break free from her grip once more.
But suddenly, Caligo stopped him cold by digging her fingers into his forehead, around his third eye.
“Oh, my… stealing from Eternity, that stick in the mud..? How very comical of you.” Caligo giggled. “This almost gives me what I want, but unfortunately, I’m having the same issue with it as I am with my current dilemma.
It’s taking far too long for you to die.
It’s great that you’re out here. Really. If I weren’t just casually passing by, then I probably never could have run into you like this! And I never would have been able to tell them where to find youuu~!”
Abaddon gritted his teeth as seven rifts appeared in the barren plane.
He turned to Caligo with a shocked look on his face. “You… wouldn’t dare..! They’ll know you’re here, too!”
“Never underestimate the lengths that I am willing to go to in order to see the harm I dream of cast upon you, old man. You robbed me of my vessel. You turned my child against me and stole another as your own. Not to mention..”
Caligo reached for her head again and ripped away the top half of her skull.
She revealed to Abaddon her grotesque, rotting brain.
“You are part of the reason I’m left with this busted, broken, stupid thing..! I hate you! I will see you dead no matter how far down the razor’s edge I must run!” Caligo snapped angrily.
But suddenly, her mood changed drastically as she showed Abaddon a tender smile that was almost lover-like.
“And let’s not forget, dearie. Just as I am everywhere…”
Caligo suddenly vanished. Abaddon could no longer see or feel her.
And yet, he could still hear that haunting voice.
I am nowhere.
A large, clawed foot came through one of the portals. It was soaked in foreign blood, and the aura it exuded was malevolent.
Abaddon knew he was out of time.
He rushed toward Thea and pulled her away from the timeline before she could finish making it.
“Dad, wait!”
Abaddon couldn’t wait any longer. He was out of time.
At the same time that he tossed Thea through an open portal, he created a half-cylinder of reflective magic over his timeline.
Not a second after Thea was sent away, another explosion rocked the space in between, and Abadodn was temporarily blinded once again.
