First Demonic Dragon - Chapter 1203: We Can’t All Be Depressed

Chapter 1203: We Can’t All Be Depressed
Courtney lay in her bed with her headphones on.
She stared out her window forlornly, never moving from her spot even once in the last twelve hours.
Courtney was over everything.
She hated watching movies and reading books now. All of the romance and happiness made her sick to her core.
Courtney had reached the point where she didn’t even like to see socks in a pair. Why should they get to be happy and keep each other warm when she was alone, untouched, and miserable!?
*Bang!*
“Greetings, sourpuss!”
Courtney didn’t even react when Thrudd kicked open her door and came in without invitation. She’d been doing it for days now.
“God, why is my room the one people always want to barge into..? Oh yeah, because i’s not like I’m ever going to be NAKED IN HERE OR ANYTHING!!” Courtney screamed.
“Who’s naked?” Hajun walked into the room behind Thrudd. In his hands, he held two thermal cups with something cold inside.
“Nobody, grandpa.” Thrudd quickly informed. “Our little edgelord is just having a hard day.”
“What’s wrong with Bashenga?”
“No, I meant our little goth Barbie.”
“Izanami? Did Abaddon do something to that tender angel??”
Thrudd gave up and pointed at Courtney.
Hajun opened his mouth in an ’O’ shape.
“Well… It’s a good thing I brought you this, then.” Hajun waltzed over to Courtney’s bed and held out a cup with a straw.
The smell of blended fruits caused Courtney’s eyes to light up slightly.
“…Thanks, gramps.”
“Where’s mine?!” Thrudd pointed at herself.
Hajun held out his hand and offered Thrudd his smoothie.
“Oh, I didn’t really want one. I just wanted to know if you’d offer.” She smiled.
Sometimes, Hajun really couldn’t tell if Thrudd was more similar to Mira if she realized.
He patted Courtney on the head as if she were still a young girl before turning out of the room.
“Keep our head up, kid. It’s always darkest before the dawn.”
Courtney grimaced at his words. “It feels like I’ve been stuck in the damned dark for years and years and-”
“Alright, enough.” Thrudd threw back her sister’s covers and lifted her out of bed. “Get up, dreary doll.”
“Noooo….”
“Yes.”
“Noooooo…!”
“Yes!”
“Let me lie here and rot..! Don’t you have a butch dinosaur to go screw or something!”
“Well, yeah, but what do you think I was doing before I came here?”
Courtney’s eyebrow twitched uncontrollably. “You suck… all couples should be eviscerated.”
“Wow, that’s dark… Try to fix this new twisted personality of yours before we go and pick up sunshine, okay?”
“Hm..? I thought Dad was going to bring her home today.”
“Yeah, well… Mom said we should probably go and get her instead since he’s just been sitting in the corner reading all day.”
Courtney’s eyes became distant and sad. “…He’s that bad off, huh?”
“…Maybe. I dunno.” Thrudd sighed. “But that’s why you have to perk up. It’s enough weird energy going on in this house already, and I want my family back to normal. Between you, dad, Gabbrielle, and K’ael, I-”
A flash of concern showed up in Courtney’s eyes. “Wait, what’s wrong with little man?”
“Ah… apparently, he’s been brooding a lot ever since he wasn’t allowed to join the fight a few days ago. He’s just been sitting in his room and training nonstop.”
Upon thinking about it, Courtney could see why her brother would be upset about being left out. He did work very hard in his training after all.
But now that he had been excluded even after working as hard as he did, someone like him would no doubt see their own abilities as lacking and endeavor to work that much harder while slowly being fueled by an inner spite for himself.
She wondered if he would ever realize that the reason their mothers had forbidden him from going was that he was just too young.
Though if she were honest, she doubted that would have been any easier of a pill to swallow.
Thrudd suddenly shifted his grip on Courtney and held her out in front of her like a baby.
“Hey. Smile right now.”
“…” Courtney’s lips spread into a forced smile.
“With feeling!”
Her smile widened and became more natural.
“Good.” Thrudd stamped out of the room. “Also, I’m driving your car.”
“The hell you are!”
–
Thrudd did, in fact, end up driving Courtney’s car.
Compared to her younger sister, who was much more ’carefree’ when driving, Thrudd was at least somewhat careful.
She turned the entire vehicle intangible and invisible so that she could drive it as fast as she wanted without bothering to stop for red lights.
It wasn’t exactly something their mothers would have approved of, but the great thing about having siblings was forcing them to take these kinds of secrets to their grave.
When they arrived at Courtney’s school, Thrudd stepped out of her car and waved their younger sister down.
“Odie! We came to get you!!”
Odessa was once again embarrassed beyond belief to see one of her family members screaming out to her in front of everyone.
However, this time, the reaction it produced from her fellow schoolmates was vastly different.
“Good god, that’s a big bitch…”
“I think… I think this is my bisexual awakening.”
“Damn, I want to go over to her house again. Daddy fine. Mamas fine. Sister fine. And… whoever that is in the passenger seat too.”
Odie felt her face become hot instantly.
She ran to the car with her head down, something she was becoming all too used to doing, and found her sisters already laughing inside.
’I-It’s not that funny!’
“”Yes it is!”” The duo cackled.
Odessa sank even lower into her seat.
’I swear… the minute I get my license I am going to be a free bird!’
“Aww, but then you wouldn’t get to hang out with us at the mall.”
Courtney’s eyes sparkled involuntarily.
’…I guess I can stomach this kind of abuse for a little while longer.’
“How did I know that would be your answer?” Thrud smiled.
She put the car in drive and pulled out of the carpool lane in a much more orderly, mundane manner than she had arrived in it.
As Odie rode in the backseat, she pretended to be on her phone while continually stealing glances at Courtney.
’This is it.’ She thought to herself. ’I finally have an opportunity to hang out with my cool older sibling!’ Odessa clenched her fist in determination.
No matter what, she was going to be charming. Funny. Even witty! Whatever it took to make herself seem more mature!
She was so busy in her own fantasies that she didn’t notice when the girls’ eyes suddenly changed intensity.
Thrudd ended up getting off the road early, and pulling into the back parking lot of a department store.
’Umm… guys…?’ Odie looked around noticing that things had gone differently from how she’d planned them in her head a few moments ago.
The girls looked back and gave their sister reassuring smiles.
“Stay in the car, okay?”
“We’ll be right back.”
As the two older women got out, Odie had the worst feeling that she couldn’t describe.
’Oh, my god… is this a drug deal?!’
Unbeknownst to her, Courtney and Thrudd were simply sensing something that she couldn’t.
Once they shut the doors, they walked a few feet away from the car and turned their heads up to the sky.
There, floating above their heads, was a mythical golden chariot.
It was drawn by beautiful winged horses with coats as white as the purest snow.
Their powerful obsidian hooves pawed at the pavement as they landed. They were far larger than any horse one might find on earth, being almost fifteen feet.
“Well, what a coincidence seeing the two of you here, of all places … this must be fate.”
Riding in the seat of the chariot was a ivinely handsome figure with metallic yellow-gold skin and hair.
As soon as he appeared, the sun peered through the overcast clouds and shone down on his divine figure, making him appear even more radiant.
He smiled at them, his brilliant white teeth almost as bright as the day itself.
“Princesses. I am honored to have you in my presence once again. Especially you, Miss…?”
Apollo waited for Courtney to give her name. He would be waiting for a long time, unfortunately, because she was in no mood to do so.
“What the hell are you doing here, Apollo?” Thrudd sighed. “Don’t make me call my dad, he’s in a shit mood right now.”
Apollo shivered. *Ahem* “While I don’t doubt that, I’ve not come to do you any harm.”
“You couldn’t if you tried.”
“Right you are! So then how about doing me the honor of indulging me in a bit of conversation for just a few moments, hm?”
Apollo grabbed something from the seat of his chariot and floated down to where Courtney could get a better look at him. (He believed the reason why she refused to talk to him was that she did not have a good enough view of his abs.)
He reached for something on the seat of his chariot and held it out in front of the tattooed princess.
Courtney’s eyes narrowed at the sight of the bouquet.
“For you, my phantasmal beauty. I wanted to use this chance to officially ask for an opportunity to unearth your mysteries.”
Courtney turned to Thrudd, unamused.
“This is why I wanted to stay in my bed.”
