First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2258 - Betrayal, Saving a Life

Chapter 2258 – Betrayal, Saving a Life
It was a divine arrow.
The arrow was blue-gray and carved with strange, contorted divine markings. It pierced through the air, reaching its target in a flash.
Its speed was shocking to behold!
Feng Yunxiu snorted coldly, then waved his sleeve. The arrow broke with a bang, shattered into powder.
“Protect the young leader! I’ll go kill our enemies!” shouted Feng Yunxiu. Then, before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he shifted on his feet and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Only his icy, murderous voice remained.
It was only then that Feng Wuji realized what had happened. He couldn’t help but break out in cold sweats as he realized that that divine arrow had been targeting him.
In that moment, he felt suffocation bordering on despair.
Fortunately, everything had been resolved.
“The person who tried to kill you just now was, at the very least, a Two-Tribulation Master God,” said Su Yi. “Don’t tell me word of this expedition into the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave leaked, and that our enemies got here early and arranged an ambush?”
As he spoke, he looked at Feng Wuji. He, too, had noticed that the arrow had been targeting Feng Wuji.
“I don’t know.” Feng Wuji shook his head, his expression full of uncertainty. No one had known the timing of this operation except him and a few of the clan’s old-timers, yet word had obviously leaked somehow!
“You have to be careful on the road ahead,” warned Su Yi.
“No amount of caution will save you.” A cold voice resounded out of nowhere.
The speaker was one of the cultivators accompanying Feng Wuji, a man in brocade robes. He turned around, gazed coldly at Feng Wuji, and smiled. “Fellow Daoist Feng, there’s no one left to protect you now!”
He waved his hand, and shockingly, the others took action, thoroughly surrounding Feng Wuji and Su Yi.
This development left Feng Wuji visibly flabbergasted. “What are you doing!?”
The nine of them were participating in this expedition on account of the Feng Family’s generous rewards. The speaker, the man in brocade, was an infamous, powerful Fortune Realm Greater God!
The others were all yao gods famed in their respective territories.
Yet now, all of them were pointing their spears at Feng Wuji!
“Fellow Daoist, just stand there. Don’t move, and I promise that nothing will happen to you! Refuse, and don’t blame us for killing you, too!” said a man in gray.
He was the one who’d been attacked by a Demonic Babble Worm earlier, almost dying in the process. Su Yi had saved his life, yet now, his gaze was cold and sinister as he threatened the very man who’d saved him.
Su Yi’s gaze was tranquil. He said nothing at all.
Feng Wuji was both enraged and furious. “Does that mean that the guy who tried to kill me earlier was one of your allies?”
They’d successfully lured Ancestor Feng Yunxiu away, leaving him exposed. Now, only he and Xiao Jian were left. They couldn’t possibly be a match for these yao gods!
Thus, he forced himself to stay calm. He planned to stall for time.
But his enemies wouldn’t give him the chance.
The leader of the group, the man in brocade, glanced at him pityingly. “If you have to blame something, blame your status as the young leader of the Feng Family. That’s what brought this catastrophe upon you!”
Boom!
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he shifted on his feet and attacked suddenly, charging explosively at Feng Wuji.
Practically simultaneously, four others took action, surrounding Feng Wuji on all sides to prevent him from fleeing.
The other four attacked Su Yi!
There was no doubt about it. The gray-robed man had been lying just now; they had no intention of leaving Su Yi any hope of survival. They planned to kill him along with Feng Wuji.
Su Yi wasn’t the least bit surprised by this.
If word got out that they’d killed Feng Wuji, it was sure to infuriate the entire Feng Family. Rogue cultivators like them couldn’t possibly bear the consequences of that.
From their perspective, it was much better to just silence all witnesses and avert future catastrophe.
It was just a pity… that they’d bumped into him.
Su Yi waved his sleeves through the air.
Boom!
Sword qi whooshed through the air.
The four attacking yao gods exploded mid-charge, blasted to bits and destroyed, body and soul.
Su Yi, meanwhile, vanished into thin air, then reappeared directly in front of Feng Wuji.
Bang!
He raised his right hand, then casually grabbed, seizing a man in brocade by the throat and holding him aloft. No matter how hard the man struggled it was to no avail. His cultivation base had been completely sealed off!
Everyone was astonished.
The other four were shocked and horrified. Their faces paled. How… How could Xiao Jian possibly be so terrifying!?
That’s a Fortune Realm Greater God he’s holding!
And not just any Greater God! He’s infamous, and he’s overcome countless powerful factions’ attempts to hunt him down. No one has even managed to slow him down.
Yet now, a mere Lesser God captured him in a flash!
And the four people who tried to kill Xiao Jian were slaughtered in an instant. They didn’t even know what hit them!!
Even Feng Wuji gasped, visibly astonished. Xiao Jian is actually this vicious!?
Earlier, when the man in brocade and his allies set their sights on him, they suppressed his vital energy, leaving him unable to move a muscle. He’d felt as helpless as a lamb awaiting slaughter.
He’d thought he was doomed beyond a shadow of a doubt. Who could have imagined that this crisis would end in the blink of an eye?
Much less that his savior would be someone entirely unexpected?
“I really didn’t anticipate that you’d be so unlucky.” Su Yi glanced at Feng Wuji. He was at a bit of a loss for words.
He’d planned to keep a low profile. He’d come with Feng Wuji simply so that he had a legitimate excuse to enter the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave. His real goal was just to find a chance to break through.
He hadn’t anticipated that he’d run into a situation like this.
Feng Wuji’s expression shifted erratically. He said bitterly, “I… I didn’t anticipate this, either!”
The other four saw that the situation didn’t bode well, and they turned to flee.
Su Yi didn’t even look at them. He just waved his sleeve through the air, sending four streaks of sword qi flying at them, as casually as if he were dicing vegetables. The four were slaughtered on the spot.
A group of gods had been cut down like grass. This bloody spectacle shocked Feng Wuji once more.
The man in brocade, meanwhile, was ashen with fright. He suddenly realized that he was really finished this time!
“Tell me: whose orders are you acting on?” said Su Yi, his gaze calm and distant. “I want to hear answers, not nonsense. Any funny business, and I’ll make sure you live a life worse than death!”
The man in brocade hissed, “If I tell you, can you let me go?”
Bang!
Su Yi tightened his grip, and the man’s body exploded with a splash of blood. Only his soul remained, still firmly trapped in Su Yi’s grip.
These tyrannical methods left the man in brocade completely astonished. He opened his mouth to speak when suddenly, someone shot over from afar.
It was none other than Feng Yunxiu.
“Young Leader, what happened?” Feng Yunxiu cried out frantically. He was obviously furious.
When Feng Wuji saw Feng Yunxiu return, he visibly relaxed, then gnashed his teeth. “Ancestor, we—”
But before he could finish his sentence, someone grabbed him and carried him into the distance.
“Brother Xiao, what are you doing?” Feng Wuji cried out in fury. “Don’t tell me you’re targeting me too!?”
“How dare you, you fiend!!” Feng Yunxiu’s infuriated voice resounded from behind them. The Three-Tribulation Master God bristled with anger and chased them with all his might.
Su Yi paid him no heed. He just dashed off, carrying the man in brocade in one hand, Feng Wuji in the other.
“Xiao Jian!! What are you doing? Why are you treating me like this?” Feng Wuji roared, his eyes bloodshot. “I trusted you! I would never have guessed that you had ulterior motives, too!”
He really was hurt. The others had come here purely for the rewards. Their betrayal was one thing, but he’d trusted and admired Xiao Jian, only for Xiao Jian to turn around and kidnap him. It was deeply disappointing.
“Idiot!” snapped Su Yi. “I’m saving your life!”
“Saving me?” Feng Wuji roared. “Is this any way to save someone? If you really want to save me, let me go! Otherwise, when the ancestor catches up to us, I swear…”
Boom!!
A glittering golden Daoist seal flew through the air, like a towering divine mountain in motion. It descended directly upon Su Yi.
Feng Yunxiu had attacked.
Su Yi shifted strangely through the air, narrowly dodging this terrifying strike.
When the golden seal slammed into the ground, it created a startling chasm. The earth shook, and the mountains swayed.
“A Lesser God managed to dodge my full-force attack?” Feng Yunxiu frowned. “And he even managed to capture a Greater God alive. Just who is Xiao Jian?”
His expression darkened as he retrieved the seal and resumed the chase.
Meanwhile, Su Yi said, “See that? If that ancestor of yours were really concerned with your survival, how could he attack without reservation like that?”
Feng Wuji roared, “He was trying to save me!”
Su Yi laughed. “You’re overcome with anger, and it’s affecting your judgment. Let me ask you this: when that arrow targeted you, why did your ancestor give chase without hesitation instead of staying behind to protect you?”
“Because he had to catch the culprit before it was too late!” shouted Feng Wuji.
“You’re wrong. Even I could tell that that arrow was aimed at you. How could your ancestor possibly miss it?” said Su Yi. “He’s a long-established, experienced Master God. Was he really not at all worried that something would happen to you in his absence? Yet he left to kill the assailant without hesitation. Don’t you think that’s strange?”
Feng Wuji’s expression shifted erratically. “What are you trying to say?”
Su Yi said calmly, “If I’m not mistaken, your ancestor is working with the people trying to kill you.”
“Impossible!” Feng Wuji instantly refuted the idea.
Su Yi smiled, then said in a voice like the roar of a dragon, “Tell me, old-timer. Am I right?”
Feng Yunxiu said furiously, “Lies and slander! Little wretch, I urge you to hurry up and release our young leader! Refuse, and I won’t spare you!”
Boom!
He attacked once more, sending the golden seal flying at Su Yi.
But this time, Su Yi suddenly shifted and shot in a different direction. He was headed toward a towering mountain enveloped in baleful, bloody mist.
A streak of sword qi suddenly emanated from his body.
Crunch!
As sword qi shot into the heavens, a streak of lightning flashed through the clouds, illuminating the landscape.
Those strange, unsettling scenes appeared once more.
And it was in that very moment that Su Yi’s sword qi slammed into those unsettling visions.
