First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2294 - Do Lingering Feelings Remain?

Chapter 2294 – Do Lingering Feelings Remain?
Fu Jiang was an old fossil of Qingwu Divine Court.
But now, he didn’t just disregard the deaths of Liang Lingxu and his cohort. He even seemed downright eager to invite Su Yi for a drink.
This scene left the others flabbergasted. All of them exchanged glances.
But Su Yi shook his head. “I know what you want to do, but I said it already: Hua Hongzhen must die. I might well be inclined to share a drink with you after he’s dead.”
Fu Jiang’s gaze dimmed.
“If you really want to help me, do me a favor and look after Wei Zhong and Tie Wenjing. Neither had any idea who I was. Make sure that I haven’t implicated them.”
Tie Wenjing and Wei Zhong looked stunned. Both had complicated looks on their faces; they had no idea how they were supposed to feel about Su Yi now.
“Rest assured, Big Brother Yi. So long as I’m in the sect, I won’t let them suffer the slightest grievance,” Fu Jiang said staunchly.
Su Yi nodded. Then, he and Zang Wushu left without another word.
From beginning to end, no one tried to stop them.
After watching them fade into the distance, Bai Liyin couldn’t help but ask, “Master, are we really going to just let Liang Lingxu and the others’ deaths go?”
Fu Jiang sighed. “Going by seniority, Su Yi is your martial aunt’s Dao Partner and the husband of the founder of Wei Zhong’s lineage. We… cannot get involved in the enmity between him and Hua Hongzhen.”
The crowd fell silent.
Yi Daoxuan was one of Su Yi’s past lives. While ordinary disciples of Qingwu Divine Court might not have known about Yi Daoxuan and Yu Xinyao’s relationship, how could these old-timers possibly have been ignorant of it?
“Your Martial Uncle Hongzhen will have to handle this himself!” said Fu Jiang. “Going forward, none of you are to see Su Yi as an enemy. Avoid getting mixed up in this storm.”
“Then… should we hide what happened here today?” asked Bai Liyin.
Fu Jiang shook his head. “There’ll be no keeping this under wraps.”
…
That very day, word of Liang Lingxu and the others’ deaths shook all of Qingwu Divine Court.
But nothing astonished the sect more than learning that the killer, Xiao Jian, was actually the legendary expert famous throughout the God Domain—Su Yi!
Countless people were left dumbstruck.
Word soon spread to the outside world, triggering a massive wave of uproar.
It hadn’t been long since the battle at Cloudy Heights Temple had left the whole world astonished.
Now, just a few weeks later, Su Yi had killed the leader of Qingwu Divine Court and many of its experts. Who wouldn’t have been astonished?
The Southern Flame Divine Continent was as chaotic as a bubbling pot of congee.
But all of that was a tale for another time.
……
Not long after Su Yi and Zang Wushu left Qingwu Divine Court, two others appeared in their path.
One was a black-robed middle-aged man with graying temples and a massive bronze heavy sword on his back.
The other was a bald old man with a big belly, blue-green eyes, and fiery Daoist robes. His features were hideous.
These were none other than the Purple Heavens Sword Master, Wan Zitian, and the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor!
“Hua Hongzhen didn’t show up?” asked the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor.
“I overestimated him,” said Su Yi. He concisely recounted what had happened.
Zang Wushu wasn’t the only person Su Yi had asked to help him defeat Hua Hongzhen. He’d invited Wan Zitian and the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor, too.
His reasoning was simple. Hua Hongzhen was a peak Nine-Tribulation Master God. Killing him in Qingwu Divine Court, his home turf, wouldn’t be easy.
Moreover, if Hua Hongzhen tried his utmost to flee, Zang Wushu alone would struggle to hold him back.
Thus, Su Yi had planned for the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor and Wan Zitian to stand guard outside the sect. They’d join in as soon as the fighting broke out.
Zang Wushu was accompanying Su Yi to protect him as he tried to “lure the snake out of its cave.”
Alas, their plan had ended in failure. Hua Hongzhen dared not return to Qingwu Divine Court, let alone show his face.
Learning the full story left the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor momentarily speechless. He couldn’t help but curse Hua Hongzhen out. “I hate nothing more than cowards like him! All he knows how to do is hide in his shell like some fucking turtle!”
“I’m actually quite confused,” said Wan Zitian. “How did Hua Hongzhen figure out your identity, anyway?”
Su Yi fell briefly silent. “Not sure, but it was Lu Qingmei who warned me.”
Lu Qingmei!
The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor was briefly stunned, then nervous. “Surely you haven’t reconciled with that poisonous serpent of a woman, right?”
Su Yi shook his head. “I don’t understand why she’d do that, either.”
He paused, then added, “But I can say with certainty that when word gets out, she’ll be in for trouble.”
Zang Wushu inclined his head. “That’s right. It’s because she revealed this information that you had time to prepare. When word gets out, Hua Hongzhen is sure to realize that someone leaked it.”
“I’ve been planning to take a trip to the Severed Heavens Demon Court for a while now,” said Su Yi. “So how about we all go there together right now?”
“What for?” asked Wan Zitian.
Su Yi’s eyes flashed. “If Lu Qingmei runs into trouble, either Hua Hongzhen or the Severed Heavens Demon Master will be involved. Either way, it’s worth taking a trip.”
The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor said with obvious concern, “Bro, why do I get the sense that you’re going to help Lu Qingmei? Wasn’t the lesson you learned back then painful enough? Whatever you do, don’t fall for her lies again. Remember, she’s your irreconcilable enemy!”
Su Yi said with exasperation, “Relax. In this incarnation, I’m not like I was back then.”
“Let’s go, then,” said Zang Wushu, getting straight to the point. “Should the opportunity arise, we’ll kill Lu Qingmei, too.”
“Sounds good to me!” laughed the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor. As he spoke, he deliberately snuck a glance at Su Yi as if hoping to see how he’d react.
“The Severed Heavens Demon Court is all but invulnerable. It’s easy to defend and hard to attack. Even if we join forces, it’ll be hard to fight our way in,” said Wan Zitian. “We’ve got to think of a way to lure them outside.”
“No need for that,” Su Yi said with a wave. “Remember the battle of Skybright Mountain? I sent Ancestor Blood Lake and an army of Blood Rakshasa to attack the Severed Heavens Demon Court.
“The Severed Heavens Demon Court suffered major casualties, and their defensive formation was severely damaged.
“Moreover, when Ancestor Blood Lake and I spoke of the battle, he told me all of the formation’s weak points!”
The group exchanged glances. Their eyes lit up. That makes this simple!
If they worked together and knew all of the gaps in the Severed Heavens Demon Court’s defenses, it wouldn’t be at all difficult to break in!
“Let’s set off immediately. I don’t want our enemies to catch up to us,” said the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor. He rubbed his palms together in anticipation.
“You mean Di E’s allies?” Su Yi furrowed his brow.
“Exactly,” said Wan Zitian. “After the battle of Skybright Mountain, our enemies set their sights on us. No matter where we go, they’re sure to discover us quickly.
“If I’m not mistaken, their forces will soon discover that we’ve come to the Southern Flame Divine Continent.”
Wan Zitian sighed. “There’s no denying that Di E and his allies are troublesome opponents. They’ve got eyes throughout the God Domain.”
Su Yi couldn’t help but feel a bit apologetic. “I implicated you all, so I’ll be sure to help you resolve these lingering threats in the future!”
The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor laughed derisively. “‘Lingering threats?’ Hah! They’re nothing but dog farts. There’s no need for you to be so polite with us.”
Zang Wushu said expressionlessly, “The old toad is right. You’re really pissing me off, Brother Li Fuyou. We decided to help you of our own free will. Even if we die, how could we possibly say you implicated us?”
Su Yi rubbed his neck and said with exasperation, “Fine, I admit I misspoke. Happy now?”
“That’s better!” The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor laughed.
A subtle smile tugged at Zang Wushu’s lips, too.
They were old friends in their pursuit of the Grand Dao. They’d known each other for so long they’d lost track. Excessive politeness would only hurt their bond!
“Once we’ve settled things here, you’ve got to treat us to a jug of wine,” laughed Wan Zitian.
Su Yi didn’t even pause to think. “We won’t leave until all of us are drunk!”
……
The Hundred Flowers Realm.
This was one of the God Domain’s thirty-three subsidiary worlds. It was located outside the Eastern Victory Divine Continent.
Hua Hongzhen sat in a restaurant in one of its cities, drinking and gazing through the window. As he took in the hustle and bustle of the city streets, his heart felt inexplicably calmer.
He loved the world of red dust in all its facets, and he enjoyed taking on different identities and exploring the world of mortals.
Take now, for instance. He’d currently disguised himself as a wandering Daoist priest.
“The red dust in all its facets, human life in all its manifestations, and the constant shifting of the masses are the most captivating of all,” sighed Hua Hongzhen. “This is the Grand Dao I seek.”
Suddenly, he raised his sleeve and took out a talisman. When he saw the message inside, his expression darkened, and his calm mood gave way to tidal waves of shock.
He was inwardly furious. Just as I suspected. I knew there was something amiss! That bastard Severed Heavens wasn’t trying to help me. He was trying to use me as a weapon!!
When the Severed Heavens Demon Master told him that Su Yi had disguised himself as Xiao Jian and hidden in Qingwu Divine Court, Hua Hongzhen was incomparably astonished, and he almost gave in to the impulse to rush back to the sect immediately. But in the end, he held back.
He’d understood Yi Daoxuan’s terrifyingness better than anyone. It was immediately obvious that Yi Daoxuan’s reincarnation hadn’t chosen to hide in Qingwu Divine Court randomly; Su Yi was targeting him!
That was why he resisted the urge to rush back, instead sending a message to his disciple, Liang Lingxu. He wanted Liang Lingxu to keep Su Yi in the sect now and pretend that nothing had happened.
He’d only just been prepared to reach out to some of the old-timers who’d helped him defeat Yi Daoxuan a long time ago and invite them to come with him to Qingwu Divine Court to take Su Yi down.
But when he saw the message in the talisman, he realized that it was already too late.
His disciple, Liang Lingxu, was dead! Su Yi had already killed six people and left Qingwu Divine Court for good!
Spear Demon Zang Wushu showed up too. That proves that Su Yi knew he’d been discovered and got the jump on us! Hua Hongzhen gnashed his teeth. I’m sure the leak was on old bastard Severed Heavens’ end!
He’d only just thought this when he broke out in cold sweats. He knew that if he’d recklessly returned to the sect, Su Yi and his allies would likely have killed him by now.
No, this won’t do. I can’t just let this go. I’ve got to get to the bottom of this and figure out just who leaked information!
Whoever leaked this is the most detestable of all. It’s entirely possible… that a traitor has appeared by Ol’ Severed Heavens’ side. Someone is colluding with Su Yi in secret!
The depths of Hua Hongzhen’s gaze blazed with murderous intent.
He rose, then left the restaurant. He’d decided to contact the Severed Heavens Demon Master and get to the bottom of this immediately!
