First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2309 - Verbal Battles Have Always Been Weak

Chapter 2309 – Verbal Battles Have Always Been Weak
Liuxiang Hen was frantic.
The crowd wanted to laugh, but they didn’t dare.
None of them had forgotten how incomparably domineering Liuxiang Hen had been at first. He’d initiated the bet with Su Yi of his own accord!
He even said that if he won, he’d make Su Yi offer up the mysteries of reincarnation!
Yet now, this ancient expert was obviously beside himself with panic.
“You needn’t worry, Brother Liuxiang,” Master God Yun He said calmly. “If we give up this struggle of our own volition, the bet naturally no longer counts.”
Seriously? The crowd gaped.
Wan Zitian frowned and bellowed, “You want to renege on your bet? There’s no way!”
The Mountain Guardian rubbed his fatty cheeks and said, “You people aren’t just small-minded. You’re shameless, too! Let me tell you. I bore witness to your bet, and there’s no way I’ll let you back out!”
He made no attempt to conceal his displeasure, and his voice boomed throughout the surrounding area.
Everyone gasped.
Liuxiang Hen’s face was ashen.
But Master God Yun He said coldly, “You’re the Mountain Guardian, not a referee or arbitrator. What does our bet have to do with you?”
The atmosphere was stifled and incomparably oppressive. No one would have imagined that Master God Yun He would go so far as to oppose the Mountain Guardian!
“If you didn’t want me to arbitrate, why not say so when you first made the bet?” said the Mountain Guardian. His smile had long since vanished, and his gaze was cold and stern.
A terrifying aura emanated from him.
“Simple. We thought you’d be a fair, impartial judge, but now, it seems you’re in no way worthy of our trust!” said Master God Yun He, his gaze heavy. “Even a blind man would be able to see that Su Yi isn’t affected by divine punishment. There’s obviously something going on here, yet you’re pretending not to see it.
“Su Yi has brazenly violated the rules of Sky Blue Divine Mountain, and he’s attacking other competitors without abandon! He’s ruining others’ opportunities to gather Supreme Emergence Fortune Power!
“That aside, Su Yi is only in the Limit Realm, yet he’s defeated one Master God after another with ease. Don’t you all think that’s absurd? And suspicious? Isn’t it obvious that something’s going on here?”
He scanned the crowd. “Have any of you ever seen a Mid-Rank God capable of defeating One, Two, and even Six-Tribulation Master Gods?”
The crowd fell as silent as cicadas in winter. None of them dared to meet Master God Yun He’s gaze.
“I certainly haven’t!” Master God Yun He said coldly. “I’ve never even heard of one, let alone seen one!
“This lofty one can say with certainty that throughout the history of the God Domain and the River of Epochs, not one such heaven-defying Mid-Rank God has ever existed!
“All of this strangeness leads to just one conclusion. He’s cheating!”
He spoke with staunch conviction.
The Mountain Guardian looked on in cold silence as Master God Yun He continued, “That’s why I ordered my people to leave. I know that when Su Yi uses external power, he’s all but invincible. The risks of staying far outweigh the rewards!”
Only now did the crowd grasp why Master God Yun He had ordered Sheng Wu, Zhi Ting, and the others to retreat prematurely. He thought that if Su Yi had means of cheating, they couldn’t possibly defeat him on Blue Sky Divine Mountain!
But Master God Yun He wasn’t done yet. He pointed the finger at the Mountain Guard and said, “You’re the guardian of this place, yet you’ve been playing dumb this entire time, and you’re even insulting us, calling us shameless and small-minded. How… how ridiculous is that?”
The atmosphere was increasingly oppressive.
The Mountain Guardian said expressionlessly, “Are you done yet?”
Master God Yun He said coldly, “Don’t tell me I’m mistaken?”
“I finally understand,” said the Mountain Guardian. “You won’t consider this competition fair unless I bring you Su Yi, pull back his head so his throat is exposed, and let you attack with abandon.
“The moment you suffer even the slightest of setbacks, you’re the victim of unfairness and cheating. You’re even shameless enough to try to justify your own shamelessness!”
The crowd exchanged glances. Each had a different look on their face.
The Mountain Guardian slowly rose to his feet. His body was like a mountain of lard, but now, it emanated terrifying majesty.
Countless onlookers’ hearts shook.
Master God Yun He, Liuxiang Hen, and the others were solemn too. All of them felt intense pressure bearing down on them.
The Mountain Guardian’s origins were mysterious. He’d always stood guard at the base of Blue Sky Divine Mountain and protected the Celestial Capital.
No one had ever dared to cause trouble here, not even Nine-Tribulation Master Gods.
But now, it was obvious to everyone that the Mountain Guardian was furious!
“You used divine punishment to set a trap, but you cannot tolerate others using the power of divine punishment to fight back?
“You sent a group of Master Gods to intercept him, but you cannot tolerate him fighting back?
“The moment you realize that you’re going to lose your bet, you try to renege on it, refusing to acknowledge it even in the face of death!
“How… could you people be so shameless!?”
The Mountain Guardian’s aura was terrifying, and his wrath shook the entire Celestial Capital. Every god present felt intense pressure bearing down on them.
“This guy’s got quite the terrifying presence!” Wan Zitian couldn’t help but feel impressed. He’d never considered that the Mountain Guardian would be so imposing when enraged.
Master God Yun He and the others’ expressions were unsightly. All of them readied themselves for battle.
But then, the Mountain God suddenly turned his attention toward the Three-Tribulation Master God Su Yi had defeated, Zhao Heng.
“Tell me, did Su Yi use external power when he defeated you?” the Mountain Guardian said coldly. “If you dare lie to me, I’ll be the first in line to kill you. No one will be able to save you!”
Zhao Heng looked stricken, and he gazed pleadingly at Master God Yun He and the others.
“You can’t tell me? Fine!” The Mountain Guardian turned to look at the other Master Gods that Su Yi had defeated. “You tell me, then!”
The Master Gods’ expression shifted erratically.
The Mountain Guardian snickered and shook his head. “You just want to see Su Yi defeated, and even killed. It doesn’t matter in the slightest whether he really cheated or not, does it?”
It wasn’t just the crowd at the foot of the mountain. Even the challengers currently on the slopes were paying attention.
Su Yi included.
He was now just one hundred feet away from the peak. He stood there with his hands behind his back, gazing down at the scene below. He’d long since taken it all in.
“Su Yi, dare you say forthrightly and in good conscience that you didn’t cheat?” Master God Yun He suddenly bellowed.
Whoosh!
All eyes were instantly on Su Yi.
Su Yi just laughed. “Would you dare slit your throat to prove that I’d cheated?”
“…” The crowd didn’t know what to say.
Master God Yun He said coldly, “See that, everyone? He’s got a guilty conscience. He doesn’t dare to admit it!”
Su Yi instantly lost interest. Throughout the ages, those who tried to frame others had always understood their victims’ innocence even better than they did!
If you argued or explained yourself, they’d take it as excuses and proof of a guilty conscience. It meant falling into their trap.
That was true now, of Master God Yun He, too.
Su Yi disdained this sort of verbal conflict more than anything.
Thus, he just smiled, took a sip of wine, and looked at Master God Yun He as if he were an idiot. “Of course, of course, you’re exactly right. Happy now?”
“….” The crowd remained silent.
“See that, Mountain Guardian? He has nothing to say in his defense. He admitted it!” Master God Yun He said gravely.
“And?” the Mountain Guardian said expressionlessly.
Master God Yun He frowned. “You’re the Mountain Guardian. Don’t you think you ought to punish him?”
The Mountain God smiled, his eyes narrowing into slits as he sat back down. “You’re the one who said I was biased, impartial, and unworthy of trust, so why do you want me to uphold justice on your behalf now? I’m… unworthy!”
Then, he smiled at Su Yi and gave him a big thumbs-up. “Well said! Scum like this isn’t worth explaining yourself to!”
Wan Zitian was initially furious, but when he saw this, he couldn’t help but laugh. How satisfying! You want to slander others? Fine! We just won’t bother with you!
See what you can do then!
The crowd exchanged glances, their gazes shifting inscrutably.
Master God Yun He’s expression was incomparably unsightly. He was too angry to even speak. When your enemies played dirty, no amount of arguing would do you any good!
Liuxiang Hen said coldly, “If you refuse to punish Su Yi, I won’t acknowledge our bet!”
“Oh,” the Mountain Guardian said airily. “It’s enough that I acknowledge it. Let’s see if you’re capable of reneging when the time comes.”
Liuxiang Hen’s heart sank. I’m finished! This damned fatty is obviously determined to use this bet to punish me!
“Relax. It isn’t up to him to decide whether or not our bet counts,” said Master God Yun He, suddenly perfectly calm. “Let’s just… watch and see what happens!”
He seemed incomparably confident. The crowd couldn’t help but find it bewildering.
Wan Zitian furrowed his brow. Where is Old Man Yun He getting his confidence? How dare he behave so brazenly in front of the Mountain Guardian?
The Mountain Guardian seemed to realize something. His brow furrowed, and he sank into thought.
Su Yi, meanwhile, laughed dryly. He couldn’t be bothered to pay this argument any further heed. Instead, he turned and approached the peak.
There was nothing else blocking his path, and the peak was just one hundred feet away. He reached it in a flash.
Clear, resplendent, misty blue light revolved around the peak, like dancing mists.
When Su Yi arrived, he saw around a dozen figures standing there already. Some were monsters from unknown territories, like Yan Shuiming.
There were other unparalleled elites of the present day, too, but their faces were unfamiliar to Su Yi. He didn’t recognize any of them.
But it wasn’t hard to realize that all of them were rare chosen sons and daughters of the Dao. They’d have no need to fear failing to one day break into the Undying Realm.
Su YI couldn’t help but recall Li Fuyou and Yi Daoxuan as they’d been when they first started exploring the God Domain.
Both had been young and valiant. The Master Gods of their day saw them as the new generation, and the world saw them as miraculous geniuses.
Later, they and the top figures of their generation reached the pinnacle of the Undying Realm, one after another.
Some became rulers of top factions, while others established factions of their own, their reputations spreading throughout the God Domain.
Others became legends spoken of for generations to come…
When Su Yi saw the group gathered here, he could already picture them striving for supremacy in the days ahead, proving their Daos, and reaching the pinnacle of the Undying Realm.
Every generation gave rise to new talents. With every new generation, new people would emerge to vie for dominance, and new names would enter the annals of history!
It was just…
When the Dark Days of Legend arrived, who would rise to prominence? Who would rule over the new world?
And who would become the Bringer of Order and stand above the heavens?
Eagerness arose in Su Yi’s heart. Hadn’t he been preparing all these years, too?
The days came and went without pause. He had to seize every moment!
