First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2402 - Seen in a New Light

Chapter 2402 – Seen in a New Light
The Angler, the Dipankara Buddha, Master God Tian Huang, the Severed Heavens Demon Master, and several other peak experts of the God Domain were all in Di E’s camp.
Yi Daoxuan’s greatest enemies, Gu Huaxian, Jiao Mu, the old hunchback, and the others were allied with Di E as well.
Yet now, the Angler obviously planned to keep Su Yi’s visit to the Boundless Battlefield from Di E.
Su Yi couldn’t help but sense an altogether different flavor. A certain possibility occurred to him: Whatever the Angler is planning, he can’t let Di E find out.
After all, it was Di E who sealed the entrance to the Boundless Battlefield, yet now, the Angler is trying to give me an opportunity to enter. If Di E finds out, how could he possibly just let it go?
No matter what the Angler’s plotting, all of this proves that even though the Angler is in Di E’s camp, he and Di E aren’t truly united!
After reaching this conclusion, Su Yi knew what was up, but his expression revealed nothing.
“You came so far as to make a personal appearance, all to give me a chance to enter the Boundless Battlefield? Why didn’t I realize you were so filial, Angler?” laughed Su Yi.
His voice was barbed with mockery. The others laughed along.
It really did seem ridiculous.
But this was also proof that the Angler was convinced that Su Yi would meet with all but certain doom so long as he entered the Boundless Battlefield!
“Mere verbal spats have always been a waste of time,” the Angler said expressionlessly. “You needn’t jeer at me. I’ll just ask you this: now that you know of your old friends’ predicament… can you really stop yourself from rushing to their aid?”
Su Yi instantly fell silent. He naturally wouldn’t just stand back and watch them die. As ridiculous as the Angler’s plan was, there was no denying that he’d hit Su Yi right where it hurt!
After a while, Su Yi said, “Go on, then. Tell me. How do you plan to help me enter the Boundless Battlefield?”
“With that.” The Angler gestured to the Sky-Stealing Hook in the distance. It was still suppressed by the Sword of Proximity and the Blade of Heaven’s Loathing.
“The hook?” Su Yi was briefly stunned, but he quickly understood.
Di E’s seal was undoubtedly extraordinary, and Di E would know the moment it broke.
But if Su Yi had the Sky-Stealing Hook, it would be a completely different store. All he’d have to do was seize a thread of heavenly mysteries and avoid Di E’s seal altogether. Then, he could slip into the Boundless Battlefield unnoticed!
Su Yi was now further convinced of his analysis. The Angler wasn’t just hiding his plans from Di E. No, he was terrified that Di E would find out about them!
Why had he come in person, using Mu Bai as a pawn to set a trap?
It seemed ridiculous, but in truth, it was perfectly reasonable. This way, even if he was discovered, he’d be able to explain himself to Di E.
After all, when the time came, the Angler could just insist that the Sky-Stealing Hook had been stolen from him in battle. That way, he could avoid any responsibility for what happened next!
In other words, the Angler had really wracked his brains for a way to send Su Yi into the Boundless Battlefield without revealing his involvement.
Alas, his plans had been ruined.
Rather, the Butcher’s sudden arrival had ruined his plans. If the Butcher hadn’t intervened at a critical juncture, the Angler would have captured Mu Bai a long time ago.
The Angler had planned the whole thing meticulously, but he’d never even considered that the Butcher might show up to intervene, stopping his advance!
This, in turn, gave Su Yi and his allies an opening to ruin the Angler’s plans even further, forcing him to lay everything out in the open and make an exchange instead.
Once Su Yi understood this, he couldn’t help but sigh. “You sure are insidious, old-timer!”
The Angler said coldly, “If it means defeating you, what does a little time planning matter?”
He gazed at the distant Butcher and gnashed his teeth. “If that barbarian hadn’t gotten mixed up in this, you wouldn’t be so smug now!”
His voice was full of deep resentment. There was no doubt about it; he too knew that it was the Butcher who’d thrown the biggest wrench in his plans.
The Butcher raised his saber and said icily, “One more word out of you, and even if Su Yi wants to let you go, I won’t agree!”
The Angler’s expression froze, suddenly unsightly. Su Yi, Zang Wushu, and Demon Ancestor Treasure Leaf already presented a serious threat. If the Butcher got involved on top of all that…
The very thought of it was enough to give him a headache. Thus, as stifled as he felt, in the end, he endured. Lashing out over something trivial would ruin his plans!
“You can leave,” said Su Yi. “Next time we meet, I won’t be in any mood to waste words on chatter.”
The Angler laughed coldly. “You’d best worry about whether or not you’ll make it out of the Boundless Battlefield alive first!”
With that, he turned to leave.
“Wait,” Su Yi said suddenly.
The Angler’s soul body stiffened, and his expression darkened. “What? You’ve always been a man of your word. Surely you don’t plan to break your own rules now?”
Su Yi laughed. “Don’t be nervous. I just suddenly remembered something. A few years ago, I pried numerous secrets out of the old hunchback. Gu Huaxian and the Dipankara Buddha have known about this for years. Didn’t they… bother to warn you?”
The Angler’s brow furrowed. “Enough. Your attempts to sow discord are pathetic. You’re like an amateur showing off in front of a master. You’re simply making a fool out of yourself!”
With that, he strode off.
From beginning to end, Su Yi made no further attempts to intercept him.
“Your Excellency, are we really just letting him go?” said the River Child, clearly unwilling to accept this.
He’d only just attacked when Su Yi called him back. Now, he had to watch his would-be opponent leave. How could the River Child accept this?
Zang Wushu and Demon Ancestor Treasure Leaf looked at Su Yi. It was obvious that they wanted to hunt the Angler down, too.
Su Yi shook his head. “I understand the Angler. His cultivation base isn’t as high as Gu Huaxian’s, but he’s even more troublesome than she is.
“He was in grave peril earlier, and he might have looked wretched, but in truth, he still has killer weapons up his sleeves. Even though he’s down to a wisp of soul, he has means of escaping. If we tried to kill him, we’d pay an enormous price. It isn’t worth it.”
Su Yi paused, then laughed, “To tell the truth, destroying the old man’s physical body was already beyond my expectations. He… can forget about competing for a chance to reach the River of Destiny now. That’s even worse than killing him.”
Zang Wushu suddenly asked, “Why did that Apocalypse Spirit Pearl he used earlier contain power far beyond the Undying Realm?”
The power of the Apocalypse Spirit Pearl had been utterly terrifying. It had almost injured them all. If Su Yi hadn’t warned them, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
“Di E’s allies are backed by several Eternals of the River of Destiny,” said Su Yi. “If all is as I suspect, the Apocalypse Spirit Pearl was a gift from one of those Eternals.”
Su Yi suddenly recalled the mysterious figures who appeared reflected in the River of Destiny whenever he broke through.
He also recalled that even Di E treated those mysterious figures with the utmost respect!
“No wonder.” Zang Wushu and Demon Ancestor Treasure Leaf suddenly understood.
Next, Su Yi put away the Sword of Proximity and Sky-Stealing Hook. The Blade of Heaven’s Loathing, meanwhile, returned to Mu Bai’s side.
Madam Mei, Mu Bai, and the others all came up to greet Su Yi. Only the Butcher stood in the distance, never once drawing closer.
He and Su Yi were enemies!
“This disaster arose because of me. Fortunately, nothing bad happened to you.” Su Yi looked at Mu Bai. “But you’d best thank the Butcher this time. He most certainly didn’t save you on my account.”
The Butcher didn’t deny it. After all, his reasons for saving Mu Bai really didn’t have anything to do with Su Yi.
Mu Bai was stunned, but then, he vaguely understood. He turned around and solemnly thanked the Butcher. “Senior, many thanks for saving my life! This junior will carve this benevolence into his heart. I’ll never forget what you’ve done for me!”
“What are you thanking me for? You and I are both saber cultivators. There’s a disparity in our cultivations, but we’re fellow Daoists walking the same path.” The Butcher waved his gratitude away.
When he spoke to others, he was cold and unsmiling. It was only when he spoke to Mu Bai that his expression softened.
“Senior, why did you save me, if not because of Su Yi?” Mu Bai couldn’t help but ask. Madam Mei and the other ancient divine wraiths were confused, too.
But before the Butcher could respond, Su Yi laughed. “Can’t you tell? He’s interested in taking on a disciple.”
Mu Bai was flabbergasted. It wasn’t just him, either; everyone was stunned.
But when they thought about it, this reason actually made perfect sense.
The Butcher didn’t deny it. “Earlier, I sensed the aura of the Blade of Heaven’s Loathing upon you, so I’ve been following you in secret to learn your character and conduct.
“I have to say that I’ve never met a junior I liked better. I truly admire both your temperament and your character.
“That’s why I was willing to go to your aid.”
Here, he looked at Mu Bai. “But Su Yi and I are enemies, and you obviously have a deep connection to him. As much as I admire you, there’s no way I’ll accept you as my disciple. Doing so would only put you in an uncomfortable position.”
He flipped his palm, and a jade slip appeared. He passed it to Mu Bai. “This contains all of the legacies and insights into the Dao of the Saber that I’ve acquired over the course of my life. Please, accept it. Consider it a token of my good will.”
Before Mu Bai could refuse, the Butcher stuffed the jade slip into his hands and continued. “When the day comes that Su Yi and I fight to the death, you needn’t be upset. This is my heart devil; it no longer has anything to do with grudges or enmities!”
With that, he turned to leave. From beginning to end, he didn’t say a single word to Su Yi.
Su Yi didn’t say anything to him, either. He understood the Butcher. In truth, he’d have been disappointed if the Butcher had tried to improve their relationship.
This way was better. His saber gall and spirit remained. This was the kind of saber cultivator that was worth fighting!
“Thank you, Senior.” Mu Bai faced the Butcher’s receding figure and bowed deeply.
The Butcher’s voice emanated from afar, echoing throughout heaven and earth. He sounded utterly proud and contemptuous. “Remember what I said. The saber is the ‘Dao! Fight violence with violence, and break through in the midst of combat. Your soul will remain even in death, and your spirit will remain even in defeat!”
“His spirit is indeed extraordinary,” Zang Wushu said softly.
“It’s true,” laughed Demon Ancestor Treasure Leaf. “Back then, he was a leading expert among saber cultivators, and he’s only lost once before.”
As he spoke, he glanced at Su Yi.
Everyone in the God Domain knew that Li Fuyou was the only one to have ever defeated the Butcher!
“In my past life, I refrained from killing him, leaving his last soul intact. I wanted to see if he could rebuild in the face of destruction and advance further in his pursuit of the Dao of the Saber,” said Su Yi. “Now, it seems he’s indeed grown far stronger. I can’t help but see him in a new light.”
“But even now, you’re still like a heart devil to him,” sighed Zang Wushu. “One day… you two really will have to settle things once and for all.”
