First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2544 - A Scholar

Chapter 2544 – A Scholar
Xiao Jian!
He was Su Yi’s past life, and a deeply hidden, profoundly capable expert. Su Yi naturally hadn’t forgotten what he’d experienced in the Path of the Ancient Gods.
He vividly recalled seeing Xiao Jian fight. He’d intervened to stop multiple experts of the River of Destiny!
He was far, far more dangerous than Su Yi’s other enemies.
In truth, even in these turbulent times, the list of opponents Su Yi was truly concerned about was so short that Su Yi could count them on his fingers.
And Xiao Jian was one of them!
But Su Yi still didn’t understand how Xiao Jian had managed to survive the destruction of his epoch of origin. It was far too unbelievable.
Especially since Xiao Jian’s Dao Imprint remained sealed in the Sword of the Nine Hells.
If Xiao Jian had lost the Dao Imprint representing his life, how could he possibly have suppressed the rulers of other lost epochs in the Path of the Ancient Gods?
The whole situation was far too strange and out of the ordinary.
The only thing Su Yi could say for certain was that when Xiao Jian arrived in the God Domain, only of them would survive!
It would be great if that old codger the River Lord were here. He’s got to understand Xiao Jian far better than I do, thought Su Yi.
Then, he shook his head, set the matter aside, and turned to leave.
As he left, the peach blossoms blazed like fire, swaying in the wind as if bidding him farewell.
Su Yi had spent the past seven years in seclusion on Sunset Perch Island. It wasn’t a particularly long time. On the contrary, it had passed in a flash.
But since the Dark Days of Legend had arrived, the God Domain had undergone a thorough transformation during that time. It was nothing like it had been before.
The passage of time touched all things.
……
The God Domain, the Southern Flame Divine Continent.
A fierce conflict over a Fragment of Heaven’s Will was underway in a stretch of mountains. The participants hailed from different factions, and there were over a hundred of them fighting a chaotic battle.
All of this was over a mere third-tier Fragment of Heaven’s Will.
The battle was fierce. Mountains and rivers collapsed, and divine radiance swept outward. Roars rose and fell in waves.
From time to time, gods died in battle, their blood splattering the sky and their screams shaking the heavens.
“Flee!” Tie Wenjing roared hysterically, his eyes bloodshot. He and his allies fought madly, putting their lives on the line.
He’d left Qingwu Divine Court to explore the outside world with several of its disciples. When they passed through this place, they happened upon a Fragment of Heaven’s Will buried here.
They would never have guessed that, the moment they laid their hands on it, others would swoop in to rob them.
A chaotic battle broke out, and as time passed, the commotion drew in more and more combatants.
By now, most of Tie Wenjing’s companions had died. Only three were still struggling.
But it was clear that they wouldn’t last much longer.
More and more factions joined the battle, and the combatants grew more and more numerous. All of them wanted to seize the fragment for themselves, so the battle was extraordinarily brutal.
Tie Wenjing had already flung the fragment away, but everyone was so red-eyed with bloodlust that they still wouldn’t give him and his companions a chance to flee for their lives.
By now, Tie Wenjing and his companions were completely frantic. They’d decided to fight to the death!
“Die!!” Tie Wenjing’s imposing aura exploded around him as he used his already injured body to stave off a group of enemies.
But over time, his injuries piled on, becoming more and more severe.
His last three companions died in battle, one after another.
Tie Wenjing’s heart was full of anger and grief. His eyes bulged as if about to burst.
“A third-tier Fragment of Heaven’s Will, that’s all. Is it really worth fighting to the death over?” A sigh suddenly resounded throughout the chaos battlefield.
“Who the hell said that? Get on out here, dammit!” a massive man roared.
Bang!
A moment later, the massive man’s body exploded. His blood splattered the air.
Everyone was astonished.
The massive man was among the strongest of those present. He’d killed at least ten people in the earlier battle.
He was like a bloodthirsty butcher!
Yet now, he’d died instantaneously! Who wouldn’t have been surprised?
Many of the combatants stopped what they were doing, instantly on guard.
Tie Wenjing, meanwhile, seized the chance at life, shooting out of his enemies’ encirclement.
It was then that he saw that figure approaching leisurely from afar. This new arrival was tall and thin, and his whole body emanated a bookish air, as if he were a scholar.
A bronze lamp hung from his left shoulder. The dim lamp flickered on and off, its dappled light lending the scholar a mysterious, ethereal charm.
When he appeared, formless power swept across the battlefield. All of the turmoil and upheaval died down, and even the air currents, lights, shadows, and the stench of blood seemed to freeze in place.
Everyone felt inexplicable pressure bear down on them, and their expressions shifted.
The few experts still fighting came to a halt, then turned to look at the scholar approaching from afar in bewilderment.
When Tie Wenjing saw him, his eyes widened in disbelief.
“If you don’t care about a third-tier Fragment of Heaven’s Will, why get involved?” a white-bearded, black-robed elder asked gravely.
He’d seized the fragment. His three companions all watched the scholar warily.
“For fun,” laughed the scholar. “Also, I detest the wicked, and love meddling in others’ business. For instance, when someone’s kid is acting up, I can’t help but smack ‘em with a feather duster. It’s not that I’m bored; it’s just in my nature.”
Everyone was flabbergasted.
“All that talk, but you’re really just after the Epoch Fragment. Why beat around the bush?” The white-bearded old man asked gravely, his expression decidedly unfriendly.
He’d managed to seize the fragment amidst the chaos. His strength was naturally extraordinary.
“Am I?” laughed the scholar. “If I wanted it, the fragment would obediently throw itself into my arms. Don’t believe me? I’ll just have to show you.”
He beckoned, and the fragment broke free of the old man’s grip, flew through the air, and landed in the scholar’s palm.
This unbelievable scene left everyone else present stunned. That’s seriously possible!?
The old man roared in fury. “Give it back to me or else——!”
Bang!
Before he could finish the threat, his body exploded into pieces, his blood splattering the sky. He’d been destroyed, body and soul.
Everyone who saw this felt their scalp go numb with fright. From beginning to end, no one saw how the scholar attacked. Just like that, the old man in black was dead.
This was unquestionably far too terrifying!
“Are you his allies?” The scholar suddenly looked at the old man’s companions.
The three of them stiffened with fright, their whole bodies breaking out in cold sweats. One of them said, “We…”
The scholar shook his head. “No need to explain. I don’t want to hear it. Since you’re his allies, you ought to die with him. I’ve always liked to help others. How… could I possibly be so cruel as to separate you?”
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, the crowd watched in horror as the old man’s three companions died on the spot. All three of them were burnt to ash.
A deathly silence descended over the area. Everyone was terrified and ill at ease.
Who could have failed to realize that this seemingly elegant scholar was in fact a mysterious, terrifying figure?
“Enough. Back down, all of you,” said the scholar, waving the crowd away as he examined the Fragment of Heaven’s Will.
The crowd exchanged glances, and they were just about to leave when a quavering voice suddenly rang out. “Xiao… Xiao Jian, is that you?”
The speaker was none other than Tie Wenjing.
Xiao Jian? Most of the onlookers had no idea what he was talking about.
Xiao Jian! But many others looked stricken, as they instantly recalled several incidents that had shaken the entire Southern Flame Divine Continent just a few years prior.
The scholar examining the Fragment of Heaven’s Will whipped his head around and exclaimed, “You recognize me?”
“How could I not recognize you?” Tie Wenjing laughed bitterly. “I’m the one who brought you back to Qingwu Divine Court, after all! Wait, hm?”
He’d only just said this when he froze, stunned, and pointed to himself. “…Don’t you recognize me?”
The scholar’s eyes flashed. “Interesting! How about we find a place for a private chat once we’re finished here?”
Tie Wenjing straightforwardly agreed. “Let’s do it!”
The scholar nodded, then said suddenly, “Right, who hurt you like that?’
Tie Wenjing was stunned. Many of the other experts nearby looked stricken, as they realized this didn’t bode well. They turned as if to flee.
But then, the scholar raised his hand and gently pressed down on the air. The fleeing experts were instantly frozen in place, like bugs caught in a spiderweb, unable to move a muscle.
“Was it them?” the scholar asked with a smile.
Tie Wenjing nodded.
Bang!
The trapped experts exploded, all of them perishing on the spot.
This bloody scene caused yet another uproar. Many of the onlookers felt their knees turn to jelly, and they thudded to the ground.
The scholar was just too terrifying. He looked so well-mannered and elegant, but he seemed so friendly, but when he killed, he did so without even batting an eye!
Tie Wenjing was startled too. He sighed, “You really have changed over the past few years.”
The scholar laughed. “Have I? I know the answer to that better to anyone. Tell me, is anyone else here your enemy? If so, let me know, and I’ll kill them for you, too.”
Tie Wenjing shook his head. “No need for that.”
The scholar didn’t push. He just said, “Come on, let’s find a place for a chat.”
No one saw him move, but a moment later, both he and Tie Wenjing vanished, leaving no trace behind.
A long time passed before those left behind came back to their senses. Without exception, they sighed in relief. All of them felt as if they’d had a close brush with death.
“Xiao Jian! That’s the name Sword Venerate Su used back when he was active in the Southern Flame Divine Continent,” someone said in a daze. “If I’m not mistaken, that guy… was none other than Sword Venerate Su!”
A clamor of voices arose on all sides. Everyone was in uproar.
Sword Venerate Su left the God Domain years ago. He’s spent all this time in seclusion on Sunset Perch Island. Has he returned to the God Domain?
No wonder that guy was so strong!
So, that was Sword Venerate Su!!
