First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2565 - Unlucky

Chapter 2565 – Unlucky
His voice boomed throughout the hall.
The crowd instantly recalled that, while today’s bet was underway, numerous chaos fiends had entered the hall to report to the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King.
The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King had also mentioned that several experts of the God Domain had arrived recently.
Today’s gambling session had lasted this long because they were waiting to see how many managed to overcome the Shattered Heart Battlefield and become the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King’s guests.
But the situation today was a bit different. Earlier, when the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King heard news of new arrivals, his brow furrowed. He personally sent Chaos King Jin Xiao to the Shattered Heart battlefield to oversee the situation.
It was immediately obvious that today’s newcomers were extraordinarily powerful. Otherwise, how could Chaos King Jin Xiao possibly have taken action personally?
And now, he was back with their new guests!
The Master Gods instantly felt conflicted. Chaos King Jin Xiao brought them here. Does that mean that these new arrivals have realized their predicament and lowered their heads?
If so… it won’t matter how strong they are. They’ll become the chaos fiends’ prey, just like we did!
As the crowd’s hearts raced, the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King suddenly laughed, then got up. “I’ll welcome them personally!”
The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King was so fat that he looked like a mountain of flesh, but he was extraordinarily light and nimble on his feet. A single step carried him beyond the hall.
Everyone left behind was astonished. Just who is are these new arrivals? Why would the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King, the ruler of the Heaven-Combating Hidden Realm, go out to greet them personally?
They exchanged glances. All of them realized that the situation was unusual.
Then, all of them looked outside the hall. Even the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor, who’d just flipped over the table and cursed out their host in a fit of rage, couldn’t help but look.
Silence descended over the room.
The Lucky Die kept spinning. It seemed that, unless the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King gave the orders, this mystical Taboo Treasure would go on like that until the end of the world.
“Are you the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King?”
“That’s right.”
“Hah? You’re seriously this fat?”
“It’s likely a reflection of my big heart.”
…the newcomers had yet to arrive, but the sound of conversation emanated from afar.
Two bronze furnaces were placed outside the hall, one on each side. Their glow cast away the darkness and illuminated everything outside.
A group had appeared outside the hall. Chaos King Jin Xiao, Fiend Lord Chang Liu, and the others led the group. They quickly gathered around the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King, like stars clustering around the moon.
A group of Master Gods stood across from them, a few dozen in total. Their figures flicked in and out of view beneath the firelight.
The leader of the group was a young man in Daoist robes. He looked unfettered and extraordinary, and he walked with his hands behind his back.
The other Master Gods trailed after him, making his extraordinary status clear.
Who is that? The crowd inside the hall was completely baffled.
They recognized Liao Yuanshan, as well as the other Undying Realm Master Gods, but they didn’t recognize the young man in Daoist robes leading the group.
However, it was obvious to all of them that the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King valued him highly. Otherwise, how could he possibly have gotten up to welcome him personally?
When they swept their gaze across the Chaos Kings’, Fiend Lords’, and Master God’s arrival, the group gathered in the hall looked stricken.
Chaos King Jin Xiao’s expression was dark, while Fiend Lord Chang Liu’s hair was disheveled, and his body was covered in wounds.
Each of the other chaos fiends had a darker expression than the one before, as if they’d all suppressed bellies full of fire they had nowhere to vent.
Don’t tell me that man in Daoist robes made the Chaos Kings and Fiend Lords suffer a major loss? The crowd was increasingly curious about his identity.
These new arrivals were, of course, Su Yi, the silver-robed man, Liao Yuanshan, and the others.
“This way, please!” The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King smiled and invited them inside.
He was quite welcoming, and he showed no sign of anger whatsoever.
The silver-robed man looked askance at him. “I have no capacity for feigned ignorance. I don’t understand. We killed so many of your fellow chaos fiends, including several Fiend Lords. How can you possibly smile?”
The crowd was stunned. The Master Gods in the hall instantly realized how strange the situation was, and their hearts shook at the implications.
The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King’s smile faded. He sighed. “They were weaker than you. If they’re dead, they’re dead. We chaos fiends revere military virtue, and we respect the strong. You’ve proven your strength, so it’s only natural that we welcome you politely.”
The silver-robed man chuckled and said no more on the matter.
“If you please, everyone!” The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King extended an invitation once more.
Su Yi turned to look at Liao Yuanshan and the others. “You wait outside.”
They nodded. Here in the Heaven-Combating Hidden Realm, Su Yi was the only person they could count on.
Only then did Su Yi and the silver-robed man walk inside.
The furnaces on each side of the hall blazed with divine flames, illuminating the area around them.
Numerous figures silently appeared in the darkness, where the light of the divine flames did not reach.
These included Fiend Lord Bai Ye, who’d fled the Shattered Heart Battlefield earlier, as well as several other terrifying Chaos Kings and Fiend Lords!
They stood silently in the darkness, gazing into the lamplit hall.
As if they were waiting for something.
……
After walking into the hall and seeing the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor and Hong Taiyu, Su Yi instantly relaxed.
But he could tell that neither of them recognized him, so he chose not to say anything.
“That’s the Lucky Die?” Su Yi stopped after passing through the entrance and looked at the little die spinning at the center of the hall.
“That’s right.” The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King returned to his seat and smiled. “Please, sit down. Then I’ll happily explain the wonders of the Lucky Die to you.”
Su Yi shook his head slightly. “We aren’t here to enjoy your hospitality. If you have something to say, speak directly.”
The silver-robed man rolled up his sleeves, smiled, and stepped forth. He said with enthusiasm, “Let me gamble first!”
The crowd was flabbergasted. They found it hard to believe. Doesn’t he realize how terrifying the Lucky Die is? How could he make such a reckless decision?
Over in the centermost seat, the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King’s eyes narrowed into slits. Several moments passed before he laughed, “Fellow Daoist, if you’re so eager, we can get started immediately.”
“Excellent!” The silver-robed man stroked his lower jaw and watched the Lucky Die spin for a while. Only then did he say, “I’ve always thought of myself as blessed with great fortune, so great fortune it is!”
Gasps rang out throughout the room.
Betting on great fortune right off the bat? This guy… sure is brazen!
But some of them noticed that the silver-robed man wasn’t ignorant of the Lucky Die like they thought. He seemed to understand its rules.
Su Yi stood to the sidelines, watching with great interest as this played out.
“Fellow Daoist, are you sure you want to bet on great fortune?” The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King seemed to find this hard to believe.
“That’s right!” The silver-robed man said with assurance.
“Let us begin, then.” The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King nodded.
Weng!
The hovering Lucky Die suddenly buzzed and shook. Wisps of dark light fell like rain, and the crowd watched as it came to a halt.
“One!”
The crowd’s gazes silently shifted. This meant that the silver-robed man was about to suffer the torment of poor luck!
But compared to “bad’ and “terrible” luck, merely “poor” luck was getting off lightly.
“One represents poor luck,” laughed the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King. “But that’s fine. You still have hope of winning it back.”
When the silver-robed man immediately agreed to gamble, the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King felt a bit bewildered. Now, however, all of his doubts were gone, and he obviously felt much more relaxed.
The silver-robed man’s expression shifted erratically. “This little trinket really can seize luck. It sure lives up its reputation. Wondrous! Truly wondrous.”
He turned to look at Su Yi. “I most certainly won’t be playing anymore.”
Su Yi was stunned. One loss, and you’re done? How could the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King possibly agree to that?
The silver-robed man disregarded his reaction and rubbed his nose awkwardly. “It’s not that I’m a sore loser. There are reasons I cannot go against this treasure.”
Su Yi mulled that over.
“You’ve lost, so you must pay the price. You cannot renege on your bet,” the Heaven-Trampling Chaos King explained warmly. “But then, you couldn’t renege even if you wanted to. The Lucky Die is a Taboo Treasure. No matter who wins and who loses, there are only two outcomes. Either you pay the price to neutralize your poor luck, or you accept your poor luck and the corresponding punishment. There’s no other way.”
The silver-robed man laughed coldly. “Rest assured that I won’t sink to trying to worm my way out of a debt. Come on then. Show me just how dire the punishment of poor luck is.”
Weng!
The Lucky Die suddenly appeared above the silver-robed man’s head. A wisp of murky light emerged from its surface, then surged into the silver-robed man’s body before vanishing in the blink of an eye.
A moment later, the Lucky Die was back in its original position.
From the outside, the silver-robed man didn’t seem any different.
However, his brow furrowed, and his expression darkened. He said softly, “This Taboo Treasure… really wants me to suffer misfortune, huh?”
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. You couldn’t see or touch poor luck. It was only when something happened that you felt its effects.
But it seemed the silver-robed man could already sense that he was in for misfortune!
“Would you like to try, Fellow Daoist?” The Heaven-Trampling Chaos King turned to look at Su Yi.
