Chapter 2668 – The Celestial Markings of Great Minutiae, Nine Tiers of Eternal Laws
The second match came to a quick end. Huang Yanleng emerged victorious in the end.
The unparalleled young woman from the River of Destiny was now covered in blood, her robes in tatters. Her snowy skin was covered in startling gashes.
But practically all of the onlookers watched her in shock.
Huang Yanleng had fought alone, saber in hand, killing two opponents and severely injuring two others in a display of utterly ferocious, tyrannical strength.
Her true body was in the Divine Wandering Realm, the second level of Eternity. Her clone could only display Unfettered Realm cultivation, but she still had the terrifying strength to dominate others of the same level.
Her opponents included the clones of two old monsters in the Silence Realm, the third realm of Eternity.
However, both lost to her in the end.
Most impressive of all, one of the experts Huang Yanleng killed was an Unfettered Realm cultivator here in the flesh, a peerless genius of the Heavenly Sovereign-level faction Sevendeaths Court.
His seniority might have been low, and it hadn’t been long since he’d achieved Eternity, but he was extraordinarily famous, and his talent, spirit root, and foundations in the Grand Dao were all the cream of the crop. He was an elite among Unfettered Realm Eternals.
Yet now, this dazzling genius was dead! Who wouldn’t have been impressed?
“Cang Lingzi, I killed the miraculous genius of Sevendeaths Court. If you’re unhappy, you’re welcome to try to kill me should the opportunity arise later in the Battle for Order,” Huang Yanleng stepped off the Five Elements Altar and said coldly, her voice as sharp as a knife.
Cang Lingzi said calmly, “My martial nephew was weaker than you. If he’s dead, he’s dead. Sevendeaths Court knows how to accept defeat with grace.”
He paused, then said, “But if I get the chance to duel you, I will indeed seek to avenge him.”
Huang Yanleng just wiped the blood from her lips, found a place to sit down, and started tending to her wounds.
Clones were different from avatars. They had flesh, essence, qi, and spirit, as well as the support of the Grand Dao. They lacked the strength of the true body, but they weren’t otherwise different.
That woman’s mouth is as sharp as her saber, but she’s quite forthright, thought Su Yi.
Inwardly, he was quite rueful. There’d been only two matches thus far, but three Unfettered Realm Eternals had died.
Even disregarding all the damaged and destroyed clones, the battle was quite fierce. Had it taken place anywhere else in the God Domain, it would have long since caused a massive commotion.
After all, the dead were true Eternals!
In the eyes of the cultivators of the God Domain, Eternals were lofty and superior, transcendent beings from the River of Destiny. Even Undying Realm Master Gods could only look up to them.
The vast majority of cultivators knew nothing of the mysteries of Eternity. They assumed that Eternal meant unkillable, perpetual, and indestructible!
In truth, as limited as this perception was, it had a certain logic to it.
Unless Eternals met with a Karmic Tribulation, they really could exist in perpetuity. Epochs could come and go, but they’d carry on.
But those who understood Eternity knew that “everlasting” didn’t mean “unkillable”!
Those who’d mastered Eternal Laws could destroy Eternals’ bodies, shatter their souls, and seize their Daos!
Maybe you couldn’t kill an Eternal directly, but if you seized their Eternal Laws, they’d no longer be Eternal. They were certainly killable then.
In the first match, the Dipankara Buddha slew his four opponents, leaving behind their four Eternal Origins. That was called “Seizing the Dao.”
Huang Yanleng did the same against her four opponents.
When you killed an Eternal, destroying their body and soul wasn’t enough. You had to seize their Dao!
The difference between killing a clone and killing a true body was that killing a close just required seizing a portion of Eternal Source power, while killing the original required seizing all of it.
Su Yi had destroyed two of Yu Chiyang’s clones. His true body knew that if he lost another one, he was sure to meet with a Karmic Tribulation. He couldn’t handle losing any more of his Eternal Source power.
Simply put, to those yet to achieve Eternity, Eternals were indeed unkillable, but other Eternals could kill them in a competition of the Grand Dao!
As Su Yi pondered, the third match began. Su Yi didn’t recognize even one of the combatants this time.
To most of the onlookers, this match was dull and lackluster. Even though someone managed to eke out a victory in the end, not one of the losers died.
The victor was covered in wounds, too, an arrow at the end of its flight. He’d won, not because he was significantly stronger than his opponents, but because the battle had been chaotic, and he’d gotten lucky.
As dull as it was to the others, the battle deepened Su Yi’s understanding of the Unfettered Realm.
Even though they were at the same level of cultivation, Unfettered Realm Dao Lords’ strength was highly variable.
When they couldn’t use treasures and external power, the stronger their Eternal Laws, the stronger they were.
Simply put, it was the quality of their Eternal Laws that determined the combatants’ relative strength.
When their Eternal Laws were roughly comparable, victory came down to talent, foundations, divine abilities, and combat experience.
For instance, mastering a supreme divine ability gave you a huge advantage against others otherwise at the same level.
But Su Yi understood all that already, and he was pondering something else. He was trying to figure out how to destroy an Eternal while still in the Undying Realm!
Even he had to admit that taking this step while still a Master God was far, far too difficult. The chasm between the Undying and the Eternal seemed insurmountable.
To Undying Realm experts, unless they too stepped into Eternity, they could only gaze upon Eternals from afar. There was no way they could overcome the seemingly insurmountable chasm between them.
But Su Yi was different. His Undying Realm cultivation was unique and unprecedented.
That aside, you couldn’t judge his powers of the Grand Dao and foundations by the usual standards of the Undying Realm!
Know yourself and your opponent, and victory is assured.
After watching one clash of the Grand Dao after another, Su Yi confirmed his own path. All he could think was—the barrier between the Eternal and Undying isn’t unbreakable!
No one had broken it before, so he’d just have to be the first. He’d be the first to overcome that barrier, setting a new precedent!
As he pondered, the next match began. This time, Su Yi finally saw another familiar face——
Wang Zhiwu!
The mysterious owner of the Book of Legends, a handsome young man in gray.
Wang Zhiwu had long since started exploring the God Domain, and he’d suffered at Su Yi’s hands on numerous occasions. By now, Su Yi thought of the guy as frivolous and irresponsible. He didn’t seem to live up to the title “the Master of Legends.”
But when the fourth battle began, Su Yi quickly realized that he’d underestimated Wang Zhiwu.
Wang Zhiwu was strong!
When he fought, text arose on every inch of his skin, like the page of a book. Every symbol was golden and resplendent, as if it had been condensed out of Eternal Laws.
When he attacked, the countless markings were like an army of one million divine swords attacking at once, directly and forcefully in a boundless, unstoppable flood.
He overcame all four of his opponents in a flash!
The sight startled many of the old-timers watching from outside the area.
“The Celestial Markings of Great Minutiae, huh? No wonder you dared to bark like that in front of me. So, you somehow bullshitted your way into a Law of the Grand Dao that points directly to Destiny,” Di E snorted coldly.
The Celestial Markings of Great Minutiae!
Simply put, it was a supreme divine ability condensed from the Laws of the Great Minutiae.
The crowd stirred in response to Di E’s comments. Some of the old monsters couldn’t help but look stricken, as if they finally understood.
On the River of Destiny, there was a complex system of categorizing Eternal Laws of the Grand Dao, but stripped of all its intricacies, there were roughly nine divisions or tiers.
The first tier was the strongest, while ninth was the weakest.
First-tier Eternal Laws were also known as Supreme Eternal Laws.
The Laws of Great Minutiae were classed as second tier. That meant that they were in the second strongest class, just beneath Supreme Eternal Laws!
“While first-tier Eternal Laws are the rarest, second-tier Eternal Laws are hard to find, too, and both point directly to destiny. To think that Wang Zhiwu controlled the Laws of Great Minutiae! I would never have guessed that Wang Zhiwu hid his true abilities so deeply,” sighed an older-generation cultivator.
The River of Destiny was endlessly vast and full of countless Eternal Laws.
But most were fragmented. Only complete Laws were ranked.
Even the weakest of ninth-tier Eternal Laws were extremely precious and hard to acquire. Most Eternals needed to search bitterly and temper themselves assiduously to condense them.
Ordinarily speaking, every Eternal could acquire and master seventh through ninth tier Eternal Laws with enough hard work.
Most Eternal Laws tiers four through six were under the control of prominent Eternal factions.
Tiers one to three were supreme Laws that pointed to the secrets of destiny. All of them were extraordinarily rare, the sort of good fortune that could only be happened upon by chance. They were only seen in the very greatest of Eternal factions.
That was especially true of first tier, or “supreme” Laws. You could search the River of Destiny for tens of thousands of years without seeing one!
“The Laws of Great Minutiae… I seem to recall that this power of the Dao belonged to the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign? Don’t tell me…” Someone seemed to realize something, and the way he looked at Wang Zhiwu shifted.
It was no wonder the crowd was so surprised. Wang Zhiwu was the Master of Legends, but he wasn’t a true peak expert by the standards of the River of Destiny.
Who could have imagined that he’d actually quietly mastered a second-tier Eternal Law? This was truly unexpected.
Wang Zhiwu just smiled and clasped his fist. “A petty trick, that’s all. I’ve embarrassed myself in front of you all!”
With that, he leisurely sauntered off the platform.
His words seemed modest, but everyone could tell that he was really quite pleased with himself!
Is this the true Wang Zhiwu? It seems I really did underestimate him earlier, thought Su Yi.
He was incomparably certain that, if not for today’s Battle for Order, Wang Zhiwu would never have revealed his true strength!
“It’s your turn, Su Yi,” Xiao Jian said suddenly. “I have a premonition that this battle will be extraordinary.”
He smiled as he spoke, and his eyes carried a hint of anticipation.
