First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2671 - Eternals Are Not Unkillable

Chapter 2671 – Eternals Are Not Unkillable
The mountain of corpses collapsed, and clouds of dust billowed through the air.
Song Jue’s face was ashen with shock and fury.
His ultimate attack couldn’t even hold Su Yi back. Su Yi had blocked him with a wave of his sleeves.
Ping Gu had sacrificed her own cultivation base to launch a more powerful attack, but Su Yi broke through that, too. She now lay in a heap on the very edge of the Five Elements Altar.
Her delicate frame was in tatters, and she was bleeding from all seven apertures of her face!
Huo Yunhu’s arm had been severed. He glowered hatefully at Luo Baiting, his indignation difficult to bear.
Luo Baiting gripped that three-foot streak of sword qi and smiled back at him.
Su Yi shook his head.
Although no one knew it, he hadn’t been forced back earlier because he was weak. No, he’d let himself get forced back.
His goal was to create an opening and lure the snake out of its burrow!
Huo Yunhu had indeed fallen for it.
Unfortunately, Luo Baiting had intervened and stopped him from taking the bait.
Meanwhile, the way the spectators looked at Su Yi shifted.
When he injured Song Jue and Ping Gu, two true Unfettered Realm Dao Lords, at the start of the battle, everyone realized that Su Yi’s Undying Realm cultivation base could shake the “insurmountable wall” of Eternity.
This realization astonished the onlookers, but most of them still didn’t think Su Yi could kill an Eternal.
Defeating an Eternal was one thing. Killing them was another.
Insurmountable barriers were called that for a reason. The Undying couldn’t kill the Eternal. No one in history had ever broken this ironclad rule!
Yet now, the crowd watched as Su Yi pummeled Song Jue and Ping Gu to the point that they could barely fight back.
They watched as Ping Gu was injured, again and again, and they watched as she collapsed to the ground in a heap.
Their conviction was starting to waver.
Don’t tell me… that someone might really overcome the insurmountable wall separating the Eternal and the Undying?
This was what astonished the gathered old-timers the most!
As for Huo Yunhu’s injuries? No one was overly concerned with that. After all, the two of them weren’t from the same faction to begin with, and this was the Battle for Order. In a chaotic, five-person match like this, such things weren’t at all strange.
The whole area was deathly silent. All eyes were on Su Yi.
The Dipankara Buddha narrowed his eyes, but he remained as silent as before.
Di E put his hands behind his back and frowned. It seemed he was thinking about something.
Xiao Jian laughed and applauded, making no effort to disguise his delight.
Yu Chiyang’s expression was extraordinarily dark and unsightly, because Song Jue and Ping Gu were from his faction, the Court of the Southern Heavens. How could watching Su Yi brutalize them not infuriate him?
Huang Yanleng rubbed her forehead. She hadn’t considered the possibility that an Undying Realm cultivator like Su Yi could be this heaven-defying.
But Su Yi didn’t give the crowd the chance to ponder any further. He was already launching his next attack.
And his target was still Ping Gu!
“You cannot kill me!” said Ping Gu, sitting limply on the ground, hair disheveled and face a mess of blood.
Her voice was hoarse as she bared her teeth and laughed, “I’ve established foundations in Eternity. Even if you destroy my body and soul, I can come back to life, good as new!”
She wasn’t just boasting. This was the fundamental reason why Eternals couldn’t be killed by those beneath that level.
“I have to admit it: you’re strong. In terms of strength, I’m no match for you,” said Ping Gu. “Look. I’ve even admitted defeat, openly and in front of the crowd. From this day forth, you can brag that you suppressed an Unfettered Realm expert while still in the Undying Realm. How dazzling of an accomplishment is that? Isn’t that enough for you? Why not end this here?”
When those defeated on the Five Elements Altar couldn’t take it anymore, they could admit defeat, but they couldn’t leave unless the victor gave the nod.
Su Yi had suppressed Ping Gu. So long as he nodded his assent, she could leave.
Otherwise, they’d have to fight until one of them was dead!
The crux of the matter was that if Su Yi, a Master God, was unable to kill Ping Gu, he’d ultimately have no choice but to let her admit defeat and leave.
When the onlookers heard Ping Gu’s plea, their expressions grew strange.
Song Jue prepared himself for battle. He didn’t rush to attack.
Huo Yunhu and Luo Baiting did the same. It seemed they were waiting to see what Su Yi decided.
Su Yi’s decision was simple; he barely even paused to think. He just walked over to Ping Gu and raised his right hand.
“Go right ahead and attack,” Ping Gu laughed coldly, “But don’t think you can destroy my Dao Heart by humiliating me. So long as my Dao Heart remains strong, you cannot kill me, no matter how you humiliate and abuse me!
“Your Undying Dao cannot seize my Eternal Laws! That is an ironclad rule!” She sat there, looking utterly wretched, but her eyes were full of contempt and disdain.
Splurt!
Su Yi’s slash landed, and Ping Gu’s head toppled to the floor.
Her blood-smeared, beautiful face looked at him with disdain. Even decapitated, she opened her mouth to speak. “Destroy my body and shatter my soul all you like. If you cannot destroy my heart, it shall exist in perpetuity! Your abilities are far from enough!”
As her voice rang out, her body and soul shattered and dissipated, but her Eternal Source hovered in place, shining like the sun with self-perpetuating vitality.
Moments later, an unbelievable scene unfolded. That Eternal Source spun, recreating Ping Gu’s body and soul!
Both were weak and indistinct, like a wisp of smoke, but even so, so long as that Eternal Source remained, Ping Gu seemed utterly indestructible.
Many of the onlookers looked at Su Yi curiously. Others looked at him with outright mockery.
Still others sighed in relief.
He hadn’t managed to kill Ping Gu!
In other words, Su Yi was strong enough to overpower her, but he couldn’t really break the insurmountable natural barrier of Eternity. He couldn’t kill an Unfettered Realm Eternal like Ping Gu.
This was the gap between the Eternal and the Undying, an insurmountable chasm!
“See that? You can’t do it,” said Ping Gu, her gaze dripping with mockery. “No matter how heaven-defying and powerful you are, with just your measly Undying power, you cannot kill me.”
She stretched out her neck and pointed at her throat. “If you don’t believe me, why not try again?”
The provocation was readily apparent.
“How about I help you kill her?” Luo Baiting asked suddenly.
Ping Gu stiffened.
Song Jue said coldly, “Luo Baiting, if you don’t want your true body destroyed, you’d best stay out of it!”
Huo Yunhu glanced at Luo Baiting. “You fawning sycophant! Do you really take Su Yi for your master, Jiang Wuchen? If the Malevolent Sword Venerate were here to see this, he’d kill you, you bastard! You’re less than a dog!”
But Luo Baiting thought nothing of it. He just looked at Su Yi. “I can work with you to kill the others. We can fight to the death once they’re out of the way.”
Yu Chiyang’s expression darkened.
But Su Yi shook his head. “No need for that.”
With that, he suddenly stretched out of his hand and smacked Ping Gu, who was still waiting there with her neck exposed.
Whap!
It was a crisp, clear, audible smack.
Ping Gu couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s all you’ve got? You worthless little wretch!”
But before her voice had even finished echoing through the air, her smile froze and her eyes widened. She stared at Su Yi, then opened her mouth to speak.
Before she got the chance, her recently re-condensed body and soul silently fell apart.
More than that, what really shocked people was that her Eternal Source dimmed. Earlier, it shone like the sun, but now, it seemed to have lost its vitality.
The crowd then watched in astonishment and confusion as her Eternal Source melted like candle wax!
The light went out, her life extinguished like a lamp.
When an Eternal lost their Eternal Source, it meant they were really and truly dead!
Everyone who saw this was rendered dumbstruck. The whole area fell so silent that you could have heard a pin drop.
Even Di E, the Dipankara Buddha, Lu Shi, and other prominent experts with terrifying backgrounds were stunned.
Ping Go was so arrogant earlier, but he destroyed her in just one light, airy slap?
How is this possible!?
Did someone seriously just break that ironclad rule and overcame the insurmountable chasm separating the Undying and the Eternal?
The shock was overwhelming. It was as if the crowd had just witnessed the strangest, most unbelievable thing ever; they couldn’t accept it all at once.
“She’s dead? But why? He obviously didn’t manage to seize her Eternal Source!” someone called out in a daze.
The most common way to kill an eternal was to seize their Dao. Eternals could seize other Eternals’ sources. In doing so, they could destroy their opponent completely and utterly.
“If I’m not mistaken, her Dao Heart crumbled. When her Dao Heart broke, her powers of the Grand Dao were rendered hollow. The loss extinguished her life force, as if blowing out a lamp,” whispered Xiao Jian.
“That’s impossible!” someone objected. “Eternals hearts are nourished with Eternal Dao Light, with firm roots and self-perpetuating vital force. Barring a Karmic Tribulation, no one could possibly destroy them!”
That was indeed the truth. It was hard to shake an Eternal’s heart with external power or treasures. Even if you managed, Eternal Dao Light would quickly repair the damage.
“What exactly is going on here?” Some of the old-timers couldn’t believe it. “Don’t tell me he used some sort of external power?”
Over on the five-colored auspicious clouds, the yellow finch spoke for the first time. It said coldly, “Had he used external power, he’d have suffered a backlash from the chaos source power of the Five Elements Platform already!”
It paused, then said, “I said it earlier. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to try using external power to see what happens!”
The crowd watched, increasingly bewildered.
Meanwhile, over on the Five Elements Platform, Song Jue watched as Ping Gu died inexplicably to a single slap. His whole body stiffened, and chills coursed down his spine.
Huo Yunhu’s expression was full of unprecedented solemnity.
Luo Baiting’s smile froze, and his brow tightly furrowed. They couldn’t tell what kind of power Su Yi had used, or how he’d managed to kill an Eternal!
“Does this mean that Brother Su has become the first in history to break that ironclad rule? Is he the first of the Undying to cross that insurmountable chasm?” murmured the Master of Legends, Wang Zhiwu.
His words swept throughout the area like a windstorm, sending tidal waves of emotion crashing through the crowd’s hearts.
It was true. Su Yi was one of the Undying, yet he’d managed to kill an Eternal without using any sort of external power!
Sure, he’d just killed one person, but in doing so, he’d broken a long-established, ironclad rule!
That was the truly shocking part.
Many of the experts from the River of Destiny were from Heavenly Sovereign-level factions. How could they not understand the significance of this?
Had this occurred on the River of Destiny, it would have triggered an enormous storm, startling even Heavenly Sovereigns!
Indeed, Di E, who was now possessed by a Heavenly Sovereign, was stunned. The calm, indifferent look on his face had given way to uncertainty.
Su Yi, meanwhile, rubbed his fingers together and said, “I said it, didn’t I? Eternals aren’t unkillable after all.”
