Chapter 2672 – The Most Satisfying, the Most Exhilarating
The atmosphere was stifled and oppressive. All was silent on all sides.
A long time passed in silence. Everyone struggled to calm down.
In the last moments before her death, Ping Gu had been aggressive and disdainful. Even after Su Yi shattered her body and soul, she retained her air of lofty superiority.
She wasn’t stupid. Rather, she knew that no one in history had ever broken the barrier separating the Eternal and the Undying!
It was much like how the mortals of the mundane world in no way believed that the sky would fall, and they certainly didn’t believe that it would come crashing down onto their heads.
Ping Gu didn’t believe Su Yi could kill her. That was why she was so fearless, and why seeing Su Yi slap her to death stunned the other Eternals so badly.
“It seems we’re in danger,” Luo Baiting said softly, gripping his three-foot streak of sword qi.
“Are you afraid?” jeered Huo Yunhu. “Let me sever one of your arms, and I’ll let you admit defeat. Relax; I promise I’ll give you the chance to admit defeat.”
He hadn’t forgotten the way Luo Baiting had ambushed him.
According to the rules of the Battle for Order, you could admit defeat if your opponent was stronger than you, but you couldn’t leave the Five Elements Altar unless your opponent agreed.
If they refused, you had to fight to the death.
“If you two want to kill Su Yi, we should work together. We shouldn’t be fighting amongst ourselves like this!” said Song Jue, his face ashen.
Ping Gu’s death had shocked him to the core. He now looked at Su Yi completely differently.
“I’m not afraid. At worst I lose a clone,” Luo Baiting said casually. “I’m different from you. If you die, you’re dead for real.”
Song Jue’s expression was increasingly unsightly.
Luo Baiting said, “If you want to live, why not let me cut you a little? Then, so long as you obediently admit defeat, I’ll naturally spare your life and let you withdraw. It might be a bit embarrassing, but it’s your best bet if you want to live.”
“…” The crowd didn’t know what to say.
Outside the Five Elements Altar, Yu Chiyang shouted, “In the Battle for Order, retreat means death! Song Jue, don’t you dare bring shame on the sect like that! Try it, and even if you leave the Five Elements Altar alive, I’ll kill you myself!”
There was no telling how many people were watching this battle. If Song Jue humiliated himself just to stay alive, the Court of the Southern Heavens would become the laughingstock of the entire River of Destiny!
“Rest assured, Elder. I might not be good for much else, but I’ve never been afraid of battle!” Song Jue said gravely.
Su Yi, meanwhile, was in no rush to attack. When he heard that, he couldn’t help but nod. “Glad to hear it.”
He took a step forward, his gait light, airy, and unhurried, as if he were walking on wind, but his aura had long since blanketed the arena and locked firmly onto Song Jue.
Song Jue bellowed and charged explosively at him.
His body suddenly caught ablaze, shining with radiant light. His vital energy rapidly flowed away, but his strength rapidly rose.
“I burn my Dao Blood and ignite my soul origin!” Song Jue’s hands formed a seal as he activated a self-destructive divine ability, risking it all without the slightest hesitation.
The crowd couldn’t help but look stunned.
Boom!
A swath of snow-white, fiery Dao Light condensed into a seal and ruthlessly descended upon Su Yi.
Song Jue was attacking with no regard for his own life. Many of the other Unfettered Realm experts looked stricken; they knew that in Su Yi’s shoes, they couldn’t possibly have withstood this attack.
Su Yi’s gaze focused, but he didn’t retreat.
Instead, he paused in place, his hand clenching into a fist. A boundless flood of power coursed through him, rumbling and booming.
Tyrannical, all-encompassing sword force gathered in the palm of his hand.
Then, he punched the air.
His fist was like a sword, and as its fist force spread, the humming of a sword filled heaven and earth. Intense, snow-white sword light erupted, stinging the crowd’s eyes to the point that they could barely keep them open.
When fist and seal collided…
Boom—!
Heaven and earth seemed to crumble. Shockingly, dense chaos power surged around the Five Elements Altar, suppressing the terrifying aftershock.
Song Jue froze in place and coughed up blood.
Su Yi, meanwhile, was sent flying.
This time, he wasn’t doing it on purpose. He really had been forced back!
When an Unfettered Realm Eternal sacrificed their cultivation base and risked it all, they really were quite terrifying.
Su Yi was just an Undying Realm Master God, and this was a head-on collision, but he’d merely been forced back. To everyone else, that was already an unbelievable feat.
Meanwhile, Huo Yunhu attacked without hesitation. He bellowed, then stretched out his hand, like an azure dragon extending its claws. He swung at Su Yi before he’d even managed to steady himself on his feet, bringing with him an all-encompassing flood of blue divine radiance.
But it was also then that Huo Yunhu staggered on his feet, a new, bloody sword cut on his back. If he hadn’t dodged right in the nick of time, he’d have been cleaved open.
The moment he was injured, his attack power plummeted, letting Su Yi block with a swing of his sleeves.
“You again, Luo Baiting? Fuck!” Huo Yunhu roared, his voice booming like thunder.
He’d originally thought that Ping Gu’s death would change Luo Baiting’s attitude toward Su Yi. At the very least, he figured Luo Baiting wouldn’t target him again.
Because doing so would be far too stupid; it would only give Su Yi an opening to exploit.
Who’d have guessed that Luo Baiting would really do something so stupid?
“Shh, look!” Luo Baiting pointed.
Huo Yunhu looked over, then gasped, visibly stricken.
Song Jue, who’d just clashed with Su Yi, had frozen in place, unmoving. He had a strange look on his face, a mixture of astonishment, bewilderment, and agony.
His life force was rapidly flowing away.
In the blink of an eye, his body and soul shattered like dropped porcelain.
No one was sure when, but even his Eternal Source had crumbled and dissipated!
A single strike had determined life and death, but it was Song Jue, the Unfettered Realm Eternal, who’d died!
But the most unbelievable part was the way he’d died. It was strange and highly unusual. The crowd was stunned, but more than that, they couldn’t help but shudder.
The crowd couldn’t help but recall the way the Dipankara Buddha had slain all four of his opponents just by chanting a few words in the first match.
Except the way Su Yi killed Song Jue was even stranger and more sudden.
When the Dipankara Buddha killed his opponents, he stripped them of their Eternal Sources, leaving them behind. That at least made sense.
But when Su Yi killed his enemies, even their Eternal Sources crumbled and dissipated. Moreover, no one could tell how he’d done it!
How is this possible? The crowd exchanged glances, their expressions increasingly solemn. He’s a Master God, but he didn’t just break the insurmountable wall of Eternity. He even slew two Unfettered Realm Eternals in a row!
Who’d believe such a thing if they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes?
Huo Yunhu gulped with great difficulty, then roared, “Don’t even try to pretend you cut me for my own good!”
Luo Baiting said, “I’m just giving you a chance to seek life. After all, now that I’ve cut you, you can admit defeat and leave the Five Elements Altar immediately.”
Huo Yunhu was stunned, then so furious that he laughed. He spat on the ground. “This is just a clone. So what if you destroy it?”
Boom!
Su Yi was in no mood to listen to this nonsense. As soon as he’d steadied himself, he launched himself at Huo Yunhu.
His gaze was calm and deep, and his murderous intent swept forth like an avalanche.
Huo Yunhu’s hair stood on end, and he dodged, practically on instinct.
Boom!
A streak of sword qi landed where he’d been standing just moments prior, then swept outward and hit Huo Yunhu mid-dodge, making him stagger.
This was Luo Baiting’s work yet again.
“Damn you, Luo Baiting, you son of a bitch! Have you really gone insane?” Huo Yunhu was so angry that he almost coughed up blood.
Bad enough that Su Yi was targeting him. Now, Luo Baiting had ambushed him three times. Of course he was furious!
Luo Baiting said solemnly, “I’m doing this to help you. I’ve given you a chance to admit defeat. If you fight Su Yi, you’ll be doomed.”
Boom!
Su Yi struck yet again, stepping through the air, as fast as if he were teleporting. He swung his fist as if beating a heavenly drum.
Huo Yunhu was even more ruthless. He bellowed, then ignited his clone and charged at Su Yi. He was aiming for mutual destruction!
When he swung his fist, endless lightning surged forth, collapsing Su Yi’s strike and forcing him back.
Tyrannical beyond measure.
“Die!” Huo Yunhu didn’t let up. He closed the distance between him and Su Yi and condensed a terrifying seal.
He poured all of the power of his burning cultivation base into the seal, then swung it ruthlessly at Su Yi.
His sheer ferocity stunned the onlookers, who couldn’t help but sigh. He really is an expert of Limitless Palace, one worthy of the title.
Who on the River of Destiny didn’t know that experts of Limitless Palace were famed for their valiance, and that they never shrank back in the face of death?
This quality was on full display now. Huo Yunhu wasn’t the least bit concerned with his avatar’s survival. He forged boldly ahead with no concern for his own life and death!
The seal rumbled and boomed with terrifying power. This attempt at mutual destruction was extraordinarily terrifying.
Su Yi’s eyes narrowed, his cultivation base erupting like a sea of lava.
But it was then that a white arc flashed through the air, piercing Huo Yunhu from behind.
Luo Baiting was at it again.
But this time, Luo Baiting’s strike was obviously far more powerful than before. It wasn’t even remotely comparable.
“You fell for it, Luo Baiting! You were my true target all along, you motherfucker!” Huo Yunhu grinned, his face hideously contorted as he whipped around and flung the seal, with all of its accumulated power, at Luo Baiting.
Boom!
Firelight swept across the Five Elements like a windstorm.
Luo Baiting was sent flying ruthlessly backward. He slammed into the invisible barrier lining the Five Elements Altar, bleeding from the five apertures of his face. His whole body was in tatters.
“It’s a pity!”
Huo Yunhu’s embittered voice emanated from the churning clouds of smoke.
That attack had exhausted the last of his clone’s power. It was rapidly disintegrating.
Boom!
Su Yi swung his sleeve, and Huo Yunhu’s already disintegrating figure collapsed.
A deathly silence descended over the area.
No one had anticipated that Luo Baiting would intervene even when Huo Yunhu was aiming for mutual destruction, much less that he was the one Huo Yunhu really wanted to kill!
Even Su Yi found it hard to understand. Just what was he thinking?
Meanwhile, Luo Baiting straightened his severely battered frame amidst the churning dust and smoke. He wiped the blood off his face with his sleeve, then sighed, a satisfying look on his face.
“This was the most satisfying battle I’ve fought since Master left all those years ago. The most exhilarating, too!”
