First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2682 - Heavenly Monarchs

Chapter 2682 – Heavenly Monarchs
The commotion caused by the Five Elements Altar was nowhere near so simple.
When Red Pine Mountain shook, the four Divine Continents shook with it, as if a giant dragon were turning beneath the surface of the earth.
The skies throughout the God Domain were thrown into upheaval. Tribulation light surged, and the curtain of heaven seemed liable to collapse at any moment.
Its trillions of inhabitants were startled. All of them were frantic.
Beams of light shot out of ancient orthodoxies, as numerous as drops of rain. Everyone shot out of their sect, even those in seclusion.
Every cultivator was terrified, from the loftiest of gods to the lowliest of mortal martial artists. What’s happening? Don’t tell me the skies are falling?
Meanwhile, on Sunset Perch Island, Wen Qingfeng, Wan Zitian, Zang Wushu, and the other old-timers were solemn. At their level, they could guess what was happening. Something must have happened during the Battle for Order on Red Pine Mountain!
Meanwhile, at the foot of Five Elements Peak, the figures watching the battle in secret looked up.
“The real spectacle is about to begin.”
“What do we do?”
“I didn’t expect Xiao Jian to admit defeat, but no matter what, we can’t just keep watching forever.”
“In that case…”
“Mmhm.” A thin old man and a tall middle-aged man conversed, then vanished in place.
That kid really does have a chance to bring order, but if things go on like this, his situation will get more and more dangerous. A black sheep raised her head, then gazed at the peak and into the endless void beyond.
Moments later, the sheep disappeared from view.
Near the spacetime fault, a petite young woman sighed. “Big Sister Lin, Big Brother Su did it!”
Her companion, a spearwoman in a bronze mask, said, “Don’t celebrate just yet. Now that his Dao Fruit is mature, those eager to steal it will soon jump into the open.”
“Big Sister Lin, you… really won’t help him?” A’Cai couldn’t help but ask again.
The spearwoman, Lin Jinghong, blinked. “And what if your ‘Big Brother Su’ doesn’t need my help?”
A’Cai was stunned. Is that even possible?
…
Meanwhile, beyond the God Domain, deep within the endless spacetime void.
Boom!
An elegant man standing atop a Golden-Winged Great Peng appeared in a quivering stretch of emptiness.
The Great Peng extended its wings, tearing through layer upon layer of spacetime barrier and stirring up monstrous golden winds.
The man riding it had a spine as straight as a spear. He stood with his hands behind his back, as steady as a mountain.
His arrival broke the silence of the endless spacetime void. A series of startled cries rang out.
“Heavenly Monarch Xun!”
“I wouldn’t have guessed that he’d be the first to step forth!”
…Heavenly Monarch Xun was one of the Eight Great Heavenly Monarchs of Sevendeaths Court, a Heavenly Sovereign-level faction. That meant he was a powerhouse of the fifth realm of Eternity, Heavenly Fate.
On the River of Destiny, he was already a king, a figure second only to Heavenly Sovereigns!
“This is intimidation. He’s telling us that unless we’re truly capable enough, we shouldn’t get mixed up in this,” someone said softly.
Heavenly Monarchs were experts of the fifth and final stage of Eternity, Heavenly Fate. Their position was much like that of the Nine Tribulation Master Gods of the God Domain!
Compared to them, Unfettered, Divine Wandering, Silence, and Immeasurable Realm Eternals weren’t even worth looking at.
A spacetime barrier stood between the God Domain and the endless spacetime void beyond, like a wall separating the two.
This wasn’t the only spacetime barrier, just the one closest to the God Domain.
Prior to the Dark Days of Legend, the outside of the spacetime wall was enveloped in the Laws of the God Domain, preventing anyone outside it from truly entering its confines.
But then, the Dark Days of Legend arrived, and the God Domain’s Laws crumbled. Its spacetime barrier no longer existed!
The only thing these Eternals feared was the chaos source beneath Red Pine Mountain.
But that was the extent of it.
When the curtains fell on the Battle for Order, Red Pine Mountain shook violently. The Eternals sensed a threat, but not a dire one.
Heavenly Monarch Xun rode the Golden-Winged Great Peng to the barrier closest to the God Domain, then stopped.
Then, he turned around on the giant bird’s back and faced the endless spacetime void.
“Everyone, heed my warning. If you lack Heavenly Fate Realm cultivation, just sit back and watch the spectacle. Whatever you do, don’t get involved. If you do… No matter your status, background, or faction of origin, you’ll die beyond a doubt.”
His voice was like the roaring of a dragon. It resounded throughout every corner of the endless void, causing a commotion.
A burst of laughter rang out. “You sure are compassionate, Heavenly Monarch Xun. We haven’t even begun fighting yet, but look at you! You’re already warning the innocent to keep their distance.”
An arc of divine radiance as white as jade shot over from the endless void. A middle-aged man stood atop it, a sword on his back. His hair and beard were disheveled, and a red-skinned wine gourd hung from his waist.
The crowd instantly recognized him. This was Meng Tianya, an unparalleled Dao Monarch from the Court of the Southern Heavens, and a sword cultivator of the Daoist school of thought.
The Dao Monarchs of Daoism and Buddhist Masters of Buddhism were all Heavenly Fate Realm experts, just like Heavenly Monarchs.
Meng Tianya’s reputation wasn’t one whit inferior to Heavenly Monarch Xun’s. If anything, it surpassed his, as his Dao of the Sword was honored as one of the nine strongest in the Eternal Heavens Domain.
When Meng Tianya appeared, he stopped not far from Heavenly Monarch Xun, plucked the gourd from his waistband, and drank. “To tell the truth, today, we old-timers are nothing more than the vanguard. We can at most clear the path ahead.”
They’re just here to clear a path?
Countless people listening from the shadows were bewildered.
Heavenly Monarchs were experts at the pinnacle of Eternity. Who but Heavenly Sovereigns could use them to clear their path?
They didn’t even need to think to know that Heavenly Sovereigns were watching from the endless void!
“Heavenly Sovereigns are restricted by the power of the River of Destiny. They cannot cross time and space to come here,” sighed Heavenly Monarch Xun. “We old-timers made it, but we paid a heavy price. The River of Destiny has weakened us considerably. It’s truly unpleasant.”
“Who came here from the River of Destiny without paying a bit of a price?” said a fair-skinned elder in a tall hat and old-fashioned robes, appearing seemingly out of nowhere.
A black inkstone appeared over his head, the deep red ink inside it transforming into a swimming flood dragon.
Heavenly Monarch Lingzhu of Limitless Palace!
His arrival sent another wave of shock rippling through the endless void. Countless people felt the urge to give up.
Some sighed to themselves. Even on the River of Destiny, Heavenly Monarchs were rare and elusive, like legends. Just laying eyes on one was an enormous stroke of good fortune.
Yet now, they were appearing one after another. It was thus immediately obvious how extraordinary the God Domain’s Battle for Order was!
“After paying such a heavy price, it would be just terrible if we failed to seize any of the spoils.” Heavenly Monarch Xun shook his head.
The higher your cultivation, the greater the backlash from the River of Destiny on their journey here, and thus, the heavier the price they paid.
The factions behind every Heavenly Fate Realm Heavenly Monarch here had spent a fortune getting them here. Moreover, the River of Destiny had stripped each Heavenly Monarch of roughly half their power.
Worse, they’d encounter even greater danger when they returned!
“What’s there to sigh about? You could have chosen not to come,” said a woman on a lotus leaf, appearing out of nowhere. She wore a black skirt, and her long black hair was tied up.
Two Dao Swords revolved around her, one blue, one purple, like fish chasing each other’s tails. Both scattered stinging, dazzling sword light.
Madam Purple Blue!
She, too, was a Heavenly Monarch, but her background was unique and mysterious. Everyone knew she was backed by a Heavenly Sovereign, but no one knew precisely which one.
When Madam Purple Blue arrived, Heavenly Monarch Xun of Sevendeaths Court, Meng Tianya of the Court of the Southern Heavens, and Heavenly Monarch Ling Zhu of Limitless Palace looked solemn.
“The Battle for Order on Red Pine Mountain has ended. The Heavenly Sovereigns are here to oversee things, but they dare not stick out their heads. I’m afraid we’ll be the only ones truly fighting,” said Madam Purple Blue, her voice charming, yet cold and clear.
She scanned the other Heavenly monarchs and said, “Which hunter shall claim the prized deer? We’ll soon have to determine that amongst ourselves. But first, allow me to make myself perfectly clear. Anyone who opposes me shall become my enemy for life!”
Heavenly Monarch Ling Zhu, the old man with the inkstone floating above his head, smiled faintly. “What an unfortunate coincidence. It just so happens that I fear nothing less than others’ grudges.”
The sharp rebuttal was readily apparent.
Madam Purple Blue glanced at him. “You’ve only managed to live this long because I don’t yet bear a grudge against you.”
As they conversed, several others shot over from the depths of the endless void, each more terrifying than the one before.
The layers of spacetime barriers blocking their path might as well not have existed. One look, and it was obvious that all of them were Heavenly monarchs!
The other Eternals spread across the endless expanse of time and space felt their hearts quiver. They were completely tongue-tied.
They’d anticipated that numerous variables would arise today, but they’d never even considered that so many Heavenly Monarchs would appear as soon as the battle ended!
It was just too terrifying!
This was an occasion sure to go down in the annals of the God Domain’s history and astonish its people for ages to come.
Madam Purple Blue and the others exchanged glances. All of them felt a strong sense of pressure and urgency.
But none of them rushed to attack.
They were waiting, because their subordinates had long since descended into the God Domain to participate in the Battle for Order.
Now that the Battle for Order had ended, these Eternals would be first in line to seize good fortune!
The Heavenly monarchs just needed to oversee things from up here. There was no need for them to personally enter the fray.
