Chapter 2703 – The Sword Cultivator on the Cauldron of Epochs
Legends of the mortal world often spoke of wondrous experts and beings turning the tides and mending the dome of heaven.
Now, it was Su Yi’s turn to mend the heavens. He was single-handedly saving the world from collapse!
In the scroll painting of the River of Epochs, the natural order of the present was like bits of fragmented porcelain.
Su Yi was using the ancient cauldron’s power to gather the scattered pieces and glue them back together.
The process continued for seven days straight.
The entire God Domain was renewed in the process.
The dome of heaven was bright with celestial bodies once more, and its mountains and rivers shone with renewed vitality. The cycle of the seasons resumed. Everything was once more as it should be.
The Grand Dao was like a curtain hanging over the dome of heaven. Spiritual energy was like the root of heaven and earth, nourishing all of creation.
The past was once more the past, and the future was once more the future.
The spacetime forbidden zones scattered across the God Domain had all been sealed.
That meant that going forward, those experts not of the present day could no longer appear here.
Turbulent spacetime and the collapsed natural order of the River of Epochs had been mended and repaired.
But not rebuilt, because Su Yi hadn’t yet used his Dao to rewrite the natural order of the River of Epochs.
No matter what, this meant that the Dark Days of Legend had finally come to an end!
Furthermore, his experience of “Bringing Order” had deepened and transformed Su Yi’s understanding of the Dao of Heaven, the River of Epochs, and its alternations!
Red Pine Mountain, atop Five Elements Peak.
When Su Yi awakened from his meditation, he was still on Five Elements Peak, but he could sense that its chaos source power was far sparser than before.
He looked down and saw the Cauldron of Epochs hovering silently in front of him. It was only about a foot tall, and its surface was dull and lustrous. Practically all of its chaos source energy had been depleted.
“Was it worth it, Master?” asked the yellow finch.
Over the past seven days, the God Domain had thoroughly transformed, but the process had exhausted more than half of the God Domain’s chaos source. Less than a tenth remained.
Even the accumulated chaos source power in the Cauldron of Epochs had all but run dry.
The yellow finch found it hard to understand.
Su Yi lay down on the ground, resting his head on his hands, and gazed into the dome of heaven. He said casually, “I’ll be leaving soon, so I naturally had to do a little something for the God Domain. I’m not really the type to always put the common good first or to deliver blessings to the masses, so for me, ending these dark, turbulent times was enough.”
He sprawled out languidly, thoroughly relaxed.
During the Dark Days of Legend, the skies were always gray and overcast, with no sun, moon, or stars. There was no daylight; the entire God Domain was plunged into the darkness of a perpetual night.
But things were different now. The sun shone overhead, and auspicious clouds flowed through the sky. The natural order had returned to the firmament!
“You’re leaving, Master?” asked the yellow finch. “Are you going to the River of Destiny?”
“Mm,” said Su Yi. Something suddenly occurred to him, and he laughed, “Going forward, you’ll be the spirit of the entire God Domain’s natural order. To the people of the God Domain, you’ll be the incarnation of heaven’s will. Does that make you happy?”
The yellow finch shook its head. “I don’t know what happiness is.”
“The heavens are without compassion, and they see all things as straw dogs,” said Su Yi. “That’s how it ought to be.”
Heaven and earth had no feelings. Thus, they treated both gods and mortals the same.
The yellow finch could have acquired emotions, but the way Su Yi saw it, the finch was suited to oversee the operations of heaven precisely because it lacked them.
Feelings would only lead to unpredictable disaster.
“Master, if you could one day grant me a true soul, I might well understand the meaning of happiness, anger, and sorrow,” said the yellow finch.
“I’ll naturally rebuild the natural order of the River of Epochs one day,” said Su Yi. “When the time comes, I’ll naturally give you the chance to make that decision.”
“Thank you, Master!” said the yellow finch.
Su Yi flipped his palm, and the Cauldron of Epochs shrank until it was the size of a fist, then flew into his sleeves. Then, he put the yellowed scroll away and got up.
“First, send those uninvolved off Red Pine Mountain,” ordered Su Yi, brushing off his clothes.
“Got it!” said the yellow finch.
Su Yi took a step forward and arrived at the foot of the mountain. There, he saw Baa Baa Black Sheep.
“It seems you haven’t supplanted the God Domain’s Dao of the Heavens. It’s truly strange,” the sheep wrote in the dirt. “You really don’t want to become the ruler of the epochs?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to, but that I can’t,” said Su Yi.
He had no intention of explaining any further.
The sheep just wrote, “With your current cultivation, are you capable of undoing my seal?”
She wanted to regain her human form.
Su Yi shook his head slightly. “Not yet.”
The sheep sighed, then wrote, “Can you at least get me out of the God Domain? If I try to leave, I’ll face a backlash from its Laws. I’m not afraid, but I’ll have to pay an enormous price.”
The God Domain’s Laws were in operation once more. Despite what she wrote, the sheep was quite afraid of them.
“I’ll be leaving for the River of Destiny soon,” said Su Yi. “Why not just come with me?”
The black sheep rolled her eyes, then wrote, “Who knows how many people on the River of Destiny want to kill you? And who knows how many disasters I’ll bring upon myself if I travel with you?”
During the Battle for Order, countless Eternals had died in the endless expanse of time and space beyond the God Domain. Even several heavenly Sovereigns’ clones were destroyed.
It was immediately obvious to the sheep that when Su Yi left for the River of Destiny, his enemies would attack in a frenzy in a bid for revenge!
“I’m not afraid, so why are you scared?” Su Yi said with a laugh. “Very well. If you’re that fearful, I’ll just have to see you off.”
Earlier, the black sheep had communicated with Su Yi by writing in the dirt with her hoof, but now, she lost control and bleated, “Baa!”
Su Yi didn’t understand what she was saying, but he was certain that the temperamental Baa Baa Black Sheep was cursing him out.
After a while, she hung her head, practically wilting, and wrote listlessly in the dirt, “Fine. This lofty one shall accompany you!”
Su Yi laughed and petted her head. “Good.”
She instantly headbutted him, sending him flying. He spun a dozen circles in the air before finally managing to steady himself.
The sheep, meanwhile, burst into bleating laughter.
Su Yi rubbed his nose awkwardly. What’s so funny? Miss Baa Baa sure is strange.
He took a step forward, then vanished without a word.
A moment later, he appeared near the spacetime fault, not far from Lin Jinghong and A’Cai.
“Miss Lin, thank you for your help,” he said, clasping his fists and smiling.
He’d seen the young monk’s arrival, and he knew that if not for Lin Jinghong, the monk would have attacked him up on the Five Elements Altar by now.
Lin Jinghong crossed her arms in front of her chest, then raised her chin haughtily. “What are you thanking me for? You ought to be thanking Senior Su Wanjun!”
Su Yi laughed. “That’s a separate matter.”
He then smiled and clasped his fist at A’Cai. “Long time no see, Miss A’Cai.”
A’Cai blinked, then sheepishly lowered her head. “It really has been a while.
She and Su Yi first met in the Human Realm. Later, on their way to the Immortal Realm, A’Cai started traveling with Lin Jinghong. She hadn’t seen Su Yi since.
When she did the math, she realized that decades had passed since they’d last crossed paths.
When Su Yi saw A’Cai, he recalled their shared past, and he immediately invited Lin Jinghong and A’Cai to visit him on Sunset Perch Island.
But Lin Jinghong refused him. “You acquired the Cauldron of Epochs, so there’s nothing worth staying in the God Domain for. A’Cai and I are heading to the River of Destiny.”
Lin Jinghong sighed inwardly. She came to the God Domain to acquire the Cauldron of Epochs. Who’d have guessed that it would slip through her fingers?
“Don’t tell me you me understand the cauldron’s secrets?” Su Yi couldn’t help but ask.
Lin Jinghong flipped her palm, and a blue jade record floated into the air. “Let this self-proclaimed ancestor in a spirit treasure explain.”
Su Yi looked over in surprise and saw wisps of spirit light rising out of the jade record. They were extraordinarily mystical, to the point that he couldn’t even begin to appraise them.
Before Su Yi could say anything, hacking coughs emanated from inside the jade record.
“Fellow Daoist, since the Cauldron of Epochs recognized you as its master, I’m sure you understand its origins. However, you haven’t yet refined it, so I cannot help but suspect you don’t understand its true wondrous applications.”
A figure floated out of the jade record accompanying this voice, an old man just about an inch tall. He wore flowing, wide-sleeved robes, and his beard and mustache were as white as snow. His head, however, was completely bald and eye-catchingly shiny.
He put one hand behind his back and rubbed his bald head with the other, then laughed. “This treasure can suppress the River of Epochs, and it can also give rise to the Laws of its natural order. You could call it the root of the River of Epochs.
“Long ago, this old man saw a legendary figure use the Cauldron of Epochs’ power, an unparalleled existence who’d mastered the myriad Daos of heaven, learning all there is to know, the ruler of the ages!”
The old man was so excited that he started patting his bald head, his eyes shining. “That existence’s name is like the Grand Dao: it cannot be spoken! He…”
When she saw that the old man seemed like he could go on for quite some time, Lin Jinghong couldn’t take it anymore. “Just tell us who he is! You don’t need to puff him up like this!”
The little old man turned to look at her. “I’m talking about your father.”
Lin Jinghong froze, flabbergasted, then gave him a big thumbs up. “Mm, you’re not just puffing him up. You’re telling it how it is! I can back you up! Keep puffing, old man… uh… I mean, keep talking!”
Su Yi didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry.
At the same time, he recalled the four figures depicted on the Cauldron of Epochs.
One was a sword cultivator who faced away from the masses, his imposing presence bearing down on the heavens.
When bringing about the end of the Dark Days of Legend, he saw a vision in which that sword cultivator used the Cauldron of Epochs as a sword to suppress the River of Destiny. At the time, he said,
“If the Dao is in disarray, I’ll suppress it in a single slash!”
Su Yi didn’t even need to think to know that this was Lin Jinghong’s father, “Demon God Lin”!
