First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2705 - The Yellowed Scroll’s Origin

Chapter 2705 – The Yellowed Scroll’s Origin
The black sheep looked at the line of text. Despite her extraordinary high standards, she had no choice but to admit that Su Yi’s calligraphy was beautifully written.
The writing was flowing and natural, with strong, sharp strokes.
Even rarer, every word was full of essence, qi, and spirit. Just looking at it, she could sense mysteries of the Grand Dao!
This was “divine inspiration”!
The black sheep murmured inwardly, ‘I am a drifter in this world. I face the mists and rain with a sword in hand…’ This guy sure is broad-minded.
The first half of the calligraphy reflected the melancholy of a transient wander on a journey throughout heaven and earth, while the second half spoke of valiantly facing the world head-on.
For a moment, the black sheep’s gaze turned a bit strange. She couldn’t help but see Su Yi differently.
One’s writing reflected one’s character. It was the voice of the heart.
When she saw his writing, the sheep felt as if she could roughly sense Su Yi’s mentality.
“Let’s go,” said Su Yi. He took a step into the air, then soared away, like a rising blue cloud, unfettered and dashing.
The black sheep followed, while the yellow finch controlled the Laws of the God Domain to open a path for them. It led into the endless expanse of time and space beyond the God Domain.
The yellow finch watched them fade away before finally retracting its gaze. The bird then gazed intently at Su Yi’s calligraphy and murmured, “Master’s calligraphy is full of the aura of the Laws of the God Domain. Had he wanted to, he could have easily supplanted the Will of the Heavens…”
A moment later, it beat its wings and took to the sky.
Red Pine Mountain was still the most mysterious, forbidden zone in the entire God Domain. Now that the Battle for Order had ended, the mountain would return to its usual location Beneath the Nine Abysses, vanishing from this world.
Perhaps Red Pine Mountain would reappear one day, when Su Yi returned from the River of Destiny.
…
On that day, Su Yi left the God Domain and began his journey to the River of Destiny, but almost no one in the God Domain knew it.
Only his family and friends on Sunset Perch Island gazed into the dome of heaven to wish him a safe journey.
An endless expanse of time and space separated the God Domain and the River of Destiny. Time and space were full of barriers, and traversing them was risky. It was easy to get lost.
Su Yi vividly recalled Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran telling him of her attempt to enter Eternity and establish an Eternal Dao Root on the River of Destiny.
She also told him that the path between the God Domain and the River of Destiny was called the Eternal Barrier
She’d made three attempts to enter Eternity, but all ended in failure because of the strange tribulations she encountered on her way to the River of Destiny. Some targeted the heart, others the body or soul. All were different.
She’d even encountered many of the inauspicious spirits living in that endless expanse of time and space!
These strange entities feasted on the hearts and souls of cultivators. Even true Eternals faced all but certain doom when they crossed paths with them.
Su Yi had already proven his Dao and stepped into the Unfettered Realm. He didn’t need to worry about overcoming the Eternal Barrier.
Still, if he wanted to reach the River of Destiny, he too had to pass through that endless expanse of time and space.
He and the black sheep were currently traversing time and space on foot.
Along the way, Su Yi’s aura rose and expanded, as if he were breaking through his shackles. He was like a dragon returning to the sea, and his whole body relaxed.
The same was true of the black sheep. Her aura was expanding too, becoming more and more powerful—and more and more terrifying. It seemed there was no limit to her strength.
“Now that I’ve left the God Domain, I can finally breathe,” said the black sheep in a crisp and smooth female voice, like the music of the heavens. It was a feast for the ears.
“You can talk now?” exclaimed Su Yi.
The black sheep froze, stunned, then exclaimed, “It seems I can now! Hahaha, hahahaha!”
She threw back her head and laughed, jumping about and stamping her hooves.
Su Yi couldn’t help but think, She’s got mad cow… no, mad sheep disease.
Of course, he knew better than to say it out loud. The black sheep’s aura was terrifying. Her cultivation base was so lofty that Su Yi couldn’t even begin to measure it.
But there was one thing he knew for sure: she was far beyond the Unfettered Realm.
Strange. My first incarnation’s heart devil said that Old Lord Gouchen doesn’t like it when the sheep talk, so he seals his herd’s capacity for speech. In that case, why is this one talking? Su Yi furrowed his brow. Don’t tell me that the seal he placed on her is incomplete, or that something’s gone wrong with it?
As he pondered, the black sheep turned to look at him. “Aren’t you afraid that this lofty one will kill you?”
Her aura was as deep as an abyss, and the depths of her gaze flashed with cold, blood-red lightning. She was utterly imposing.
But Su Yi didn’t even seem to notice. He just asked, “Have you recovered your memories yet?”
The black sheep said nothing. She just gazed coldly at him.
Su Yi laughed. “If you don’t care about ever regaining your memories, and if you’re content living out the rest of your days as a sheep, go ahead and attack me.”
The black sheep snorted coldly. “This lofty one has never feared threats, and someone as weak as you isn’t fit to threaten me. I’ll let it go this time, but if you displease me again, I might well twist off your head on the spot.”
Su Yi glanced at her hooves. “‘Twist it off?’ I’m afraid your hooves aren’t that dextrous.”
The black sheep kicked him in the rear, then watched as Su Yi flew several hundred feet, clutching his buttocks. She couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Then I’ll kick you instead! I’ll make sure you understand the height of the heavens and the depths of the earth!”
Su Yi rubbed his butt and teased, “You’re a woman, but you take such pleasure in smacking me in the butt? Aren’t you ashamed?”
“You…” The black sheep glared at him.
Su Yi hurriedly waved. “I’m kidding. Attack again, and I won’t be so polite.”
The black sheep was just about to attack anywhere when something seemed to occur to her. She paused, then said coldly, “I haven’t forgotten your earlier impudence, but I won’t hold you accountable. As your senior, I disdain to make trouble for a junior who’s only just broken into Eternity.”
She paused, then said, “But if you dare treat me with disrespect again, I won’t hold back!”
Su Yi just laughed noncommittally.
The black sheep seemed delighted to have regained the ability to speak. She walked with her head held high.
Much to Su Yi’s surprise, despite her efforts to hide it, the black sheep’s aura just kept growing!
Don’t tell me that she’s a Heavenly Fate Realm Heavenly Monarch? If not, why is her aura growing, becoming even more terrifying and inscrutable? Su Yi’s thoughts raced.
Alas, he’d only ever fought Eternals of the Unfettered Realm. He knew almost nothing about the other four realms of Eternity.
He had no way of gauging the black sheep’s true cultivation base.
“The River of Destiny is endlessly vast and home to countless territories. Where is it you’d like to go?” the black sheep asked suddenly.
Her voice was pleasant to the extreme. Those men unable to see the speaker would have felt delight course through them, and their bones would practically melt.
Many possibilities arose in Su Yi’s mind.
He thought of his second incarnation, Jiang Wuchen, and the incarnation of his negative karma, the Malevolent Sword Venerate.
He thought of the Heavenly Sovereigns hostile to him, and of their subordinate factions.
He also thought of the young monk, Lu Shi, the Ancient Aberrant, and Wang Zhiwu, the Master of Legends.
Finally, he thought of Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran, whom the Qiongqi Mountain Lord had led away from the God Domain, as well as Gongye Futu and the River Lord.
After a while, Su Yi got his thoughts in order and responded, “Let’s go to the Eternal Heavens Domain!”
His reasoning was simple. That was where the Malevolent Sword Venerate was!
“The Eternal Heavens Domain, huh…?” the black sheep murmured. “Strange. Why does the thought of that place fill me with such revulsion?”
Su Yi froze, stunned, then probed, “Did you perhaps suffer a major setback there?”
The black sheep rolled her eyes. “How many on the River of Destiny can make me suffer a setback?”
The black sheep fell silent after that; she obviously had a lot on her mind. No one knew what she was thinking about.
Su Yi, meanwhile, conversed with the heart devil in the rusted sheath.
“The Cauldron of Epochs? I’ve heard of it. They say that whoever controls it becomes the Ruler of Epochs and gains control over the river’s natural order. However, they say that the treasure is full of secrets and danger. You’d best be careful.”
Here, the heart devil suddenly changed the subject. “In the Battle for Order, Xiao Jian went boldly to his death, while all you could do was watch. You aren’t happy about it, are you?”
Su Yi had already told him all about the Battle for Order.
Su Yi shook his head. “I’m not.”
Even now, he couldn’t calm down!
“Want me to help you vent? A pack of old-timers dared to violate the rule I set back then, leaving the All-Profound Dominion. They’re simply shameless! In your shoes, I wouldn’t rest until their heads were rolling!” said the heart devil, seething with murderous intent.
Su Yi wasn’t at all moved. He just said calmly, “I’ll handle all this myself.”
The heart devil fell briefly silent. “Now that Xiao Jian is dead, you can try fusing with the Dao Imprint he left in the Sword of the Nine Hells. Why haven’t you done so?”
Su Yi shook his head. “I don’t want to.”
The heart devil clucked his tongue. “Cherishing a like-minded spirit, huh? You can’t bear to claim his everything? But as I’m sure you’re aware, you two are ultimately the same person! That goes for the Malevolent Sword Venerate, too! No matter how much you hate him, he’s still your second incarnation’s negative karma!”
“Why leave yourself out?” asked Su Yi.
The heart devil burst into laughter, then said with valiant pride, “If you’re one day capable of taking my everything, go right ahead!”
Su Yi was in no mood to waste any more time on idle chatter, so he got straight to the point. “Do you know where Xiao Jian’s scroll came from?”
The heart devil fell briefly silent. “I remember telling you that after Xiao Jian entered the cycle of reincarnation, he seized a mystery of destiny to live on in an unorthodox fashion.
“That scroll is connected to the secret he seized!”
Su Yi’s heart stirred. “Tell me more.”
“The scroll’s origins are extraordinary. Some call it the Book of Destiny. The name might seem simple, but don’t let that fool you: there’s no greater taboo than using the word ‘destiny’ in a name.”
The heart devil said solemnly, “Some call it the Great Void Dao Realm, for they say there’s a world inside the scroll. Apparently, those capable of entering it can grasp the true secrets of destiny.
“Others call it the Scroll of Fortune. The fortune it contains is destiny and the Grand Dao.
“In any event, the scroll is quite strange. I searched for it in life, but I wasn’t fated to acquire it. My understanding of it is thus limited to legends and rumors.”
He said wistfully, “Life is finite, but knowledge is infinite. As strong as I was back then, there was a lot I didn’t know, and a lot I couldn’t acquire.”
Su Yi ignored the blatant self-aggrandizement, but just as he was about to keep asking questions, the black sheep leading the way ahead came to a sudden stop.
“It seems we’ve run into trouble.”
