First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2717 - Silencing Others?

Chapter 2717 – Silencing Others?
“Fellow Daoist Su, come with us! Hurry!” Qin Suqing shouted a warning and prepared to rush to Su Yi’s aid.
But she was too late. Resplendent sword qi was already descending, and soon, it would kill Su Yi on the spot.
Or so it seemed. The moment it fell, the seemingly frozen Su Yi suddenly raised his hand.
That sword qi froze in place, unable to advance any further.
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit’s uproarious laughter came to an abrupt halt, and his brow furrowed.
Before he could respond, Su Yi opened his hand, and the calligraphy broke free of Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit’s control, blurred into a beam of light, and flew into Su Yi’s hand. All the while, its sword qi clanged and hummed as if beside itself with delight.
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit instantly looked stricken.
“This…” Qin Suqing was stunned. Luo Yunzhong was startled, too.
It wasn’t just them. The other cultivators had only just retreated explosively, and when they saw this, all of them were unwittingly stunned. All eyes were instantly on Su Yi. What’s going on here?
“Who is that?” transmitted the old man in plain cloth robes.
“I don’t know. He’s most likely a member of Sky Profound Court, and his cultivation is only in the Unfettered Realm. I asked about him earlier, and I’m completely certain about it.”
“Oh?” said the old man. “The Unfettered Realm?”
He asked no further questions. He found this development quite interesting!
“Give it back!” Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit bellowed and charged at Su Yi, quick as lightning.
Sword qi rumbled and boomed, sending him flying backward, coughing up blood. It almost tore him open.
As the onlookers’ eyes widened in shock, Su Yi gazed down at the calligraphy and whispered, “If we’re to be ‘kind to others, the kinder the better,’ then… what does it mean to be kind?”
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit glared and hissed, “I’ve been doing good for countless years. How could I possibly need you to instruct me?”
Su Yi rolled the scroll back up, then held it like a staff and thwacked him on the head.
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit clutched his skull in both hands, agony written all over his face.
Su Yi shook his head. “Your so-called kindness was misguided right from the start. After what happened today, I’m sure you realize it, too. Take some time to think it over.”
Qin Suqing and Luan Yunzhong exchanged glances. They were bewildered, but more than that, they couldn’t help but sigh in relief.
The old man in plain cloth robes, the Confucian from Bluebird Palace, and the young Daoist from Fire Dragon Temple all turned back.
When they saw Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit’s wretched state, their eyes filled with sadistic glee.
“How satisfying! My young friend, you’re extraordinary indeed. You single-handedly suppressed Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit. All of us admire you!” applauded the old man.
The young Daoist stuck up his thumb. “Impressive, little brother!”
The Confucian from Bluebird Palace smiled. “Impressive indeed. If not for your intervention, we couldn’t possibly have defeated Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit without paying the price.”
Su Yi turned to look at them. “The calligraphy is now in my hands. Are you going to try to take it from me?”
The crowd’s smiles instantly faded, their expressions shifting.
He spoke so directly that many of them were caught off guard.
The old man in plain cloth robes said solemnly, “My young friend, if you’re willing to give me the calligraphy, I promise that you, Qin Suqing, and Luan Yunzhong will be able to leave safely. None shall block your path!”
Qin Suqing couldn’t help but say, “You’re using our lives as leverage? Don’t you think that’s over the line?”
The young Daoist sighed. “My dear Miss Qin, you really haven’t realized it yet, have you? Only you and Luan Yunzhong were kept in the dark about today’s operation. Surely you understand the implications of that?”
Qin Suqing froze, stunned. Her eyes filled with surprise and fury. “You… You were planning to silence us all along, weren’t you?”
No one denied it.
A chill coursed through Qin Suqing’s heart, while Luan Yunzhong’s face was ashen.
The Confucian from Bluebird Palace smiled. “You needn’t worry, you two. So long as our young friend is willing to part with that calligraphic scroll, none of you will be in any danger.”
Yu Zhensong looked at Su Yi and spoke even more directly. “An Unfettered Realm cultivator like you is far from qualified to control that calligraphy’s power. Why not just give it up? All of us will have cause for celebration if you do.”
“Hahaha!” Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit burst into laughter. “See that? You helped them, now here they are, turning around to seize your treasure! This is the price of kindness!”
His beautifully handsome face was full of mockery.
But no one paid any attention to him. They were all focused on Su Yi.
“I’m sure you’d hate to see us seize your treasure by force,” said the old man in plain cloth robes, the very picture of kindness and understanding. “How about this? If any other treasures here catch your eye, just say the word! I’ll satisfy any request within my power to grant!”
He paused, a proud, contemptuous look on his face. He said calmly, “I didn’t introduce myself earlier, but there’s no longer any reason to hide my identity. My name is Liu Shanchuan, and I’m from the Heart-Tempering Sword House!”
Every word dripped with pride. “As a disciple of the Heart-Tempering Sword House, my character is as firm as my sword. I always keep my promises. Who in the Eternal Heavens Domain doesn’t know of our reputation?”
The Heart-Tempering Sword House!
Qin Suqing and Luan Yunzhong’s expressions shifted. They finally understood why the experts of Fire Dragon Temple, Bluebird Palace, and the Yu Family were obeying the old man’s orders.
Their factions were supreme only by the standards of Blue Peak Continent, while the Heart-Tempering Sword House was one of but a handful of Heavenly Monarch-level factions in the entire Eternal Heavens Domain.
Moreover, their founder was a famous, unparalleled sword cultivator, the Greatest of the Unthroned!
Every faction in the Blue Peak Continent paled in comparison to the Heart-Tempering Sword House.
The Heart-Tempering Sword House? Su Yi pondered briefly. He recalled that this was the faction his second incarnation, Jiang Wuchen, had created. The Malevolent Sword Venerate had since taken it over.
Su Yi didn’t know anything else about it, but his gaze nonetheless shifted somewhat. He hadn’t expected that he’d run into the Malevolent Sword Venerate’s forces before even reaching the Eternal Heavens Domain proper.
The old man in plain cloth robes, Liu Shangchuan, noticed the changes in Su Yi’s expression. He couldn’t help but chuckle. “I declared my origins, not to intimidate you, but to inform you that that calligraphic scroll is the work of our founder. I’ve come to bring it back to the sect.”
He clasped his fist. “Please grant my request, my young friend.”
The young Daoist of Fire Dragon Temple smiled. “This is an opportunity to establish a positive karmic connection with the Heart-Tempering Sword House, something any cultivator would long for even in their dreams! Miss out, and I’m afraid your Sky Profound Court will be heartbroken.”
He turned to look at Qin Suqing. “Don’t you think, Miss Qin?”
This seemed like well-intentioned advice, but it was full of hidden needles. He was effectively just reminding them that Sky Profound Court couldn’t afford to offend the Heart-Tempering Sword House!
Qin Suqing gnashed her teeth. “You’re mistaken. Fellow Daoist Su isn’t a disciple of Sky Profound Court. Threatening us will do you no good!”
Everyone was stunned. Wait, he isn’t a member of Sky Profound Court?
A smile tugged at Su Yi’s lips. I didn’t misjudge her. If Qin Suqing was overcome with fear of Heart-Tempering Sword House, she’d urge me to give up to save our lives.
But she did no such thing. That’s enough for me.
“Hahaha! The Heart-Tempering Sword House? Is the current Heart-Tempering Sword House still worthy of its name? Feh!!” Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit burst into laughter. “You’re nothing but a pack of traitors aiding and abetting an evildoer!”
Liu Shangchuan furrowed his brow, but in the end, he suppressed his anger, looked at Su Yi, and said pleasantly, “Have you thought it over, my young friend?”
The young Daoist from Fire Dragon Temple fanned the flames. “You might not be a disciple of Sky Profound Court, but surely you ought to consider Miss Qin’s well-being? Sky Profound Court cannot bear the weight of the Heart-Tempering Sword House’s fury.”
“Well said. Very well, I’ll give this calligraphy to you.” Su Yi smiled, then tossed the scroll to the young Daoist.
The young Daoist lit up with delight, circulated his cultivation base, and cautiously accepted the scroll.
But as soon as it touched his hands, sword qi shot forth, cleaving open countless bloody holes in the young Daoist’s body. He died on the spot, leaving only his Eternal Source still hovering through the air.
The calligraphy, meanwhile, flew back to Su Yi of its own accord, like a living thing.
Everyone was startled.
Su Yi, however, sighed. “It seems you aren’t fated to enjoy this good fortune.”
He lifted it, then smiled at the crowd. “Does anyone else care to try?”
They exchanged glances.
Liu Shangchuan frowned. That calligraphy is far too sinister. It instantly slew a Divine Wandering Realm Eternal of Fire Dragon Temple!
But the most unbelievable part is that it seems to have acknowledged that kid as its master!
“Just set the calligraphy on the ground,” said the Confucian from Bluebird Palace. “Then, you, Qin Suqing, and Luan Yunzhong can leave. We promise not to stand in your way.”
Liu Shangchuan inclined his head. “I agree.”
Off in the distance, Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit laughed so hard he cried. “I’ve seen shamelessness before, but never to this degree! To think I wasted all those treasures on you over the years. I might as well have fed them to stray dogs!”
The crowd’s expressions were instantly unsightly.
Su Yi, however, laughed. “Doing good isn’t simply a matter of not killing. Rather, you have to understand the difference between good and evil, then decide whether or not to kill.”
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit laughed uproariously and jeered, “Those guys are after your treasure, but they’re with the Heart-Tempering Sword House. Dare you kill them?”
“Why wouldn’t I dare?” asked Su Yi. He didn’t even miss a beat.
With that, the scroll took to the air and struck like an unstoppable sword.
Liu Shangchuan split in two, slain on the spot!
Sword qi rumbled and boomed, shaking heaven and earth.
Liu Shangchuan’s corpse toppled to the ground. Even in his last moments, he didn’t understand where Su Yi got the courage to kill someone from the Heart-Tempering Sword House.
When the others saw this, they panicked. Chills coursed down their spines.
Earlier, they’d been fearless because they were certain that a small fry in the Unfettered Realm was sure to lower his head before Liu Shangchuan of the Heart-Tempering Sword Houses. He wouldn’t dare to do otherwise!
Only now did they realize that they were way, way off.
Even Qin Suqing and Luan Yunzhong gasped. They hadn’t anticipated that Su Yi would be so decisive and direct.
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit burst into laughter. “As satisfying as that was, you’ve irreconcilably offended the Heart-Tempering Sword House. You’re in for endless trouble now!”
“I’m not afraid of trouble, but I’d rather avoid it if I can,” said Su Yi, rubbing his forehead.
“Shall we silence them, then?” asked Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit.
“An excellent idea!” said Su Yi.
The calligraphy whooshed through the air, scattering sword qi. The Confucian of Bluebird Palace, Yu Zhensong, and several dozen other Eternals were slain on the spot.
Blood permeated the air. The sword qi was dense and imposing.
Qin Suqing and Luan Yunzhong froze in place.
Ol’ Devil Golden Spirit was stunned, too, and his laughter came to an abrupt halt. “You… really did kill them, huh…?”
