Genetic Ascension - Chapter 1285: The Best [Bonus]

Chapter 1285: The Best [Bonus]
[Bonus Chapter thanks to Kalinus <3]
Aurex’s eyes flashed and he realized that he wouldn’t be able to control the situation himself anymore. He didn’t know Sylas, so he also had no idea that the kid had actually done this on purpose. In fact, he was still under the impression that whatever happened here had far more to do with the C-tier following Sylas than Sylas himself.
Without a choice, he could only accelerate back. He didn’t want to get caught in the crossfire of whatever mesh system lit up to deal with them.
But after he had gotten a distance away, he was taken aback by the fact that the mesh system didn’t immediately act. It was like it was hesitating, stuck in a limbo and not sure of whether there was a real threat or not.
Whether one was considered a true Rune Master or not, as a member of the Sanctum, all of them had a base understanding of Runes. As a C-tier, Aurex was more clear about what was happening than most.
That was when the realization struck him. It really had been done on purpose.
His eyes narrowed as they landed on Old Brama. Even now, he was certain that the one managing all of this was this old man. But he had never heard of him.
When had such a powerful unknown Rune Master appeared in the Sector?
Aurex didn’t get much more of a chance to think about things because several figures had already begun rushing in from the surroundings. With a frown, he could only touch down.
The defense units and law enforcement branch of the Sanctum didn’t come from any one particular Lineage. Instead, there was a quota to be met by all Lineages. Every cycle, there was an administered trial to become one of the Sentinels.
The Sentinels only cared about one thing and one thing only:
Combat prowess. Correct content is on fr.eew eb novel..com
It could be said that the Sanctum’s Sentinels were among the strongest warriors of the entire organization, and they were known to react quickly. In what felt like a blink of an eye, a dozen C-tiers had already appeared, wearing armors of dense golden and brown furs contrasted by a beautiful, almost scaly, white leather armor.
There were men and women alike, each with a stoic, well-controlled expression, and each one radiating a fierceness that made Aurex seem a bit dim.
Aurex might be of the Lion Lineage, but he wasn’t even close to being amongst their very best, and even though these Sentinels weren’t from the four strongest Beast Warlord Lineages…
It was clear the reputation of the Sentinels preceded themselves, even when not a single one had spoken a word just yet. View the correct content at fre.ewe(bn)ovel.c om
BANG!
A 13th Sentinel landed, peeling back a helm that almost looked plucked from elven mythos from his head. He looked up, his eyes scanning over Sylas, then his badge, and then to Old Brama.
He was just about to speak when Sylas spoke first.
“Before this goes any further, I should say that I was well aware that my actions would alert the mesh systems here. It was a necessary precaution in case a certain member of the Lion Lineage overstepped their bounds. My strength has yet to catch up to my feats, so I can only be proactive.”
The 13th Sentinel’s eyes narrowed as his gaze swiveled back to Sylas.
“You are an in-name disciple of Gralith’s? I presume you haven’t completed your rites yet.”
“Correct.”
“What is going on here?”
“On my way here, I uncovered an insider of the pirate crew known as Beastguard. They’ve been working together with this Captain Herrs to steal from the Sanctum. I’ve conveniently taken care of the situation.”
“You have?” the 13th Sentinel asked quite calmly, as though this revelation wasn’t a huge deal.
Sylas looked at the Sentinel calmly. He could tell quite easily what they were thinking. But… he was quite tired of stupid people.
He squatted down. Pulling up Herrs’ head by his hair, he looked at the beaten and broken man.
“Captain Herrs, why don’t you tell everyone how many C-tiers your Beastguards have?”
For the first time, Herrs seemed to have realized where he was.
“I… you… let go of me… get away from me…”
“Answer the question.”
Herrs shuddered. “There are 13,273 of us.”
“Mm. Quite an interesting number, indeed. Do you think that I could sneak that number of C-tiers into the Sanctum’s galaxy?”
“What?”
Herrs’ confusion was enough of an answer. It would certainly be a ridiculous question to ask.
The 13th Sentinel was already frowning, but Sylas was still talking.
“So you tell me, Captain Herrs. How stupid would you have to be to believe that the entire situation was flipped because of the power of one C-tier?”
Herrs seemed to want to cry real tears, and yet he had none left to give.
It was as Cassarae always said. Sylas had a way of angering people with his words that others could never hope to reach. When he put things like that, even the 13th Sentinel, who felt like he always had things well in hand, was having a hard time keeping his expression off of his face.
Was believing that one C-tier wiped the whole Beastguard really any less ridiculous than believing an F-tier played a huge role? It didn’t even make any sense.
Sylas waved a hand, and suddenly, piles of heads began to form. Thousands of them tumbled out, each one from a C-tier, and each one twisted into a grimace.
PSSSSS.
At that moment, the starship shook and the doors opened. The eyes of the entire hub seemed to lock onto the change, only to be surprised by how… benign it was.
There was a group of a few hundred D-tiers and their charges, chatting idly as they had had no idea what was going on in the outside world until they found themselves to be the center of attention.
Old Brama cleared his throat. “Young master, maybe it’ll be easier if they just question the others. Save yourself the hassle.”
Sylas let go of Herrs’ head and stood to his feet.
“That might be for the best.”
Though he spoke, his gaze was already high in the skies as he sensed a familiar aura approaching. It was just much fuller and far realer than he remembered it.
