Genetic Ascension - Chapter 1448: Dilation

Sylas felt the world shifting around him, a frown furrowing his brows.
He recalled that when he first teleported cross-galaxy, he went from the Milky Way to the Golden Grove’s world. It was because he hadn’t reacted poorly to this teleportation despite it being his first time that he ended up entangled with Megean and Old Brama in the first place.
It could be said, then, that Sylas had very great resistance against long-distance teleportation. And yet, even he was feeling a small hint of motion sickness right now.
It was fleeting, and he immediately adjusted, but he also couldn’t help but narrow his eyes. If he was reacting like this, Jala and Alex would definitely not handle it well. Compared to back then, his two Progenitor Flame Abilities had progressed substantially. Just how far were they going for him to react in this way?
This also confirmed something else for Sylas. This was, indeed, no normal Dungeon. There were no adverse teleportation effects for normal Dungeons because there was no distance to travel. It was more accurate to say that you were stepping into a new room of sorts.
The fact they were teleporting meant that something here was very different.
He remembered that this was supposed to be a Dungeon that connected with other Dungeon gates. It seemed that everyone who entered was being transported to a new place.
But there was too little he understood. And somehow, he was going to have to complete it all within—.
Hm?”
Sylas’ thoughts were suddenly interrupted as he noticed something odd.
“Time dilation. Is that the real reason I felt such vertigo?”
Sylas realized he had been overthinking things. The reason he had felt dizzy wasn’t because of the teleportation—though that was certainly happening and it was quite the distance at that. The real reason he was feeling a sense of disorientation he had to quickly recover from was because time was shifting around him.
The irony was that if Sylas wasn’t so sensitive to Spacetime in the first place, he wouldn’t have even noticed.
Teleportation was something that could disorient anyone because everyone had a certain interaction with space and acceleration. However, while the mind naturally understood many things about space, time wasn’t so easy to comprehend.
It wasn’t intuitive to someone that time slowed the closer to the speed of light you went, but the feeling of acceleration was innate to everyone.
The good news was that there was hope his teammates wouldn’t be completely incapacitated after the teleportation was through.
The even better news was that there was a strong time dilation. If Sylas was correct, a week or so here was worth about a day to the outside world.
Things were still changing too fast for him to pinpoint the exact dilation, but it should be anywhere between eight to ten days in exchange for one.
Though Sylas said this was good news, it could just as easily be terrible information. “There are two reasons there could be a time dilation. The first is that this Dungeon is designed to take such a long time that it’s a necessity. But, I have a feeling that the second reason is more likely to be true…”
That second reason was precisely the fact that numerous entrances were being used. There was a time dilation so they didn’t spend forever waiting for all the teams to enter. As though to confirm Sylas’ thoughts, the group came to a stop in a vast darkness. It was odd. There were no points of light at all, and yet it felt like Sylas could see his teammates as clearly as if their skin itself was radiating warm light.
Just as oddly, this warm light of their skin didn’t illuminate any of the surroundings. It was as though they were all cut out of reality and plopped into a dimension without any ife at all.
Sylas looked at everyone’s state only to realize they were all keeled over. Some were heaving empty air, some were actually vomiting, while Jala and Alex seemed as though they might directly die.
The only one who seemed relatively fine was the cloaked figure that had directly given up after Sylas challenged. Sylas gave them another long glance, his expression unreadable. In the end, though, he turned his attention to Neyara.
She was still gasping for breath at the moment, but her head soon snapped up as she felt a shadow looming over her.
Her pupils constricted and she almost took a step back before she forced herself to stop.
Sylas had just taken down two B-Grade Race geniuses, and somehow avoided the death knell that was a B-tier on top of that. On the one hand, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. But on the other… there was simply no way to escape his grasp right now. Knell that was a B-tier on top of that. Un the one hand, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. But on the other… there was simply no way to escape his grasp right now. The only logical decision was to give him what he wanted and hope he didn’t kill them after he was through.
“There are three rounds to this Dungeon. What is the first?”
Neyara’s pupils constricted, trying to control the nausea in her belly. She spared only a single thought to just how Sylas was just fine before she quickly answered.
“There are three paths when it begins. The Knight, the Champion, and the team. We need to make it through a seeded competition in order to step foot into the Tower of Champions. The first leg is this seeds competition. There are no rewards, just battle. So long as one leg makes it to the end, everyone makes it inside.
“But with the Knight portion, 7 of the 11 of us have to make it through. For the Champion portion, only you have to make it through. For the team portion, deaths are fine, but we need to make it to the end. The team portion is only necessary if the first two portions don’t work out.”
“You can step inside the Tower of Champions even as a Knight?”
“Yes, but with certain disadvantages.”
These rules made it more obvious why it would be that someone would be eager to have the Champion Title. It was the only path available that allowed you to control your own fate.
There was still one more question, though.
“What is the Tower of Champions?”
