Genetic Ascension - Chapter 1875 Unfortunate (1)

Chapter 1875: Unfortunate (1)
Bulese was pushing past the crowd, rushing to the best of her ability to get to her brother as quickly as possible. But there were too many powerhouses in the city.
She was on the verge of the C-tier herself, but C-tier was practically the average power level here. In fact, it was probably slightly below average. And every one of them was interested in the battle.
They didn’t care for a D-tier-level battle. But what they did care about was why a genius of the Lion Lineage was attacking a random E-tier, and how this E-tier was somehow able to hold their own.
When they saw a woman trying to push past them, most built way just because, but it still took a great deal of effort to push through them.
However, when Bulese saw her brother suddenly fall from the skies, she shrieked.
“KALEM!”
A power erupted from her when the lightning javelin formed in Sylas’ hand, waves of might pushing those around her out of the way. But she already grasped she would be a step too late… Until the energy vanished from Sylas’ hand as though it had never been there.
Bulese was still rushing over, her Lion Emperor Armor forming a roaring lioness helm that clamped its jaws over her head. She was a bit slow to notice that the Aether around Sylas had completely vanished, his Will being snuffed out like it was never there.
Then her fist landed.
It ripped right through Sylas’ chest, a wave of might taking out his lung and a chunk of his heart.
Sylas coughed up a mouthful of blood, the dark red blood pouring down his chin in torrents. He looked at his hand, but there wasn’t even the slightest spark of emerald left at all.
Bulese’s eyes went wide. Quite frankly, she didn’t expect this to happen so easily.
As intelligent as she was, she quickly seemed to figure out what had just happened. Maldrith had to have helped them.
She heaved out a breath of relief, ripping her fist back out and preparing a second attack.
Her thoughts were much the same as her brother’s. Although she knew that Kalem would want this blow for himself, there was no time to parse things out.
Even from so far away, she had the same worries about Sylas that Old Brama had had. When you had someone like this on the back foot, you took advantage.
There was no time to be wasted, no moment for gloating.
All she wanted was to snuff the light in his eyes out.
Air currents exploded around her arm as she punched forward.
Maldrith sat in silence, wondering what he should do. He didn’t know anything about Sylas. All this time, he had been in meditation.
While a great many things happened in the outside world, he had ignored every single one of them regardless of how big they were. The only thing he hadn’t been able to ignore was a Progenitor stepping onto his world. Otherwise, he would have ignored even Fanelei.
However, while he had cut ties with the Emperor Sanctum, he couldn’t exactly just stand by and watch his grandnephew die, so he had taken action to stop Sylas.
From what he could see, given how easily Sylas defeated Kalem, Bulese would suffer a similar fate. So, he chose to keep the suppression active even after saving him.
He had seen quite a lot of death in his lifetime, but he still felt it was unfortunate to have such a heavy hand in the death of a genius whose only guilt seemed to be the fact he had offended his descendants.
Maldrith couldn’t help but wonder if he was any different from the Ancestors he had hated enough to use as a reason to leave his own family behind.
But when faced with the decision himself, he found that he was unable to stand by and do nothing.
He wondered, though, if he should save Sylas as well by simply sending him away from the world. He didn’t think it was fair for Sylas to die.
Though Maldrith considered the possibility that Sylas was a great criminal and that was why Kalem had chosen to attack. He didn’t seem to factor this in as a matter of significant weight. In fact, he all but ignored it entirely.
‘It seems I’ve been a hypocrite.’
He thought about the matters of back then. Oh, how those old fools would laugh to see him make the same decision they had.
Maybe it was because he had spent too long in meditation. He hadn’t thought before he acted, and by the time he had, it was too late to change much.
No matter how talented Sylas was, suffering such a devastating wound from a near C-tier would be practically impossible to heal from in time. Even if Maldrith sent him away, there were better than 60% odds he died.
There was, of course, the A-tier Legend who was here with him. But this was Maldrith’s world. What chance did she stand here?
Maldrith sighed. A Legend was quite powerful, meaning Sylas’ background was quite good.
‘Well, maybe this challenge is what I need in order to cross the S-tier barrier.’
The final conclusion to Maldrith’s thoughts seemed to be that even if Fanelei was from this great power, it was fine… If they were powerful enough to destroy the Beast Emperor Sanctum… fine. That would just be considered punishment for him falling into the same pitfalls his predecessors before him had.
If he managed to overcome this challenge…
Then the door to the S-tier would be open.
He had only been awake for a short while, but he could sense the chaos in the air. Great winds were shaking the Mortal Realm.
Maybe Sylas’ arrival was just a harbinger of exactly that.
In that case… he would just let Sylas die.
There was one person, though, who seemed to have guessed that everything would play out this way.
However, this person didn’t seem to be banking on this being the very end either. Instead, he was entering his own realm of challenge.
Rhykan pulled a hood over his head, the clanking of his armor beneath his cloak disappearing as he took his first steps into the Demi-God Realm.
