Genetic Ascension - Chapter 1877 One and the Same. [Bonus]

Chapter 1877: One and the Same. [Bonus]
[Bonus thanks to Chronotitan <3 Every time this happens I just plan more diabolical cliffs for the future. I will have my pound of flesh] Bulese’s gaze flashed with success, but her fist smashed against something else. The feeling of hard metal met her knuckles instead of bone. It wasn’t impenetrable, but it parried her strike, causing it to slide off the center of Sylas’ chest and rebound against his shoulder and arm instead.
It was like an artillery round had been fired straight through Sylas’ side, his arm vanishing in a warp of curved lines of blood and sinew. Bulese’s punch might as well have been a bullet the size of his head, its strength unfathomable even after being diverted.
The metal object Sylas used to protect himself rebounded away, smashing against his chest and caving it in further.
He was sent flying through the crowd, many instantly scrambling out of the way as his body carved large trenches along the path of his flight.
Blood colored his vision and pain spiked through his brain. But Sylas didn’t even have the muscle left in his torso to cough. And yet… he landed on his feet, a thin line of emerald still hanging around his body.
Sylas came to a stop, what looked like a metal box with erratic, unorganized wires hanging from it embedded into one half of his chest. His arm had vanished in a rain of blood, but the object only had a single dent in it.
It was none other than the mechanical parts Old Brama had once heavily relied upon.
It was no secret to Sylas that Old Brama was far stronger than he had ever let on. In the end, it just hadn’t mattered to Sylas. He died just the same due to the parameters of their contract.
But though Bulese was likely more powerful than Old Brama at his peak, she wasn’t strong enough to kill him in a single strike.
And that was just enough.
Sylas couldn’t use his Will outside of his body. Aether in the atmosphere wasn’t responding to him, and the world itself seemed to be shutting him out.
But there was one thing a Progenitor wasn’t able to directly affect. At least, not a Progenitor who didn’t understand how these things functioned.
Technology.
Sylas somehow remained standing. At the moment, he looked so much like a science fair project that Germaine, the female professor, would have been proud.
Bulese’s eyes opened wide in shock. She looked down at her fist, a layer of her skin peeled away to reveal the bone beneath. And yet, what surprised her most wasn’t her injury or the blood that was quickly forming to swarm and pool down the white once hidden beneath her flesh.
It was that Sylas had somehow broken free of the control of a Progenitor.
Sparks of electricity jolted around the mechanical box as though it were short-circuiting. But in that moment, Sylas’ Will pulsed and his body shook.
After reaching the Infinite Void, Sylas’ understanding of his own body was unfathomable to most.
A Progenitor teetering on the edge of S-tier didn’t want him to move. But if he, Sylas Grimblade, wanted to do something… He would do it.
Even if it meant doing it with the electrical pulses of broken mech pieces from a once-dead C-tier.
Bulese keeled over.
She didn’t even see Sylas move, but she detected the pain in her gut. Every organ behind Sylas’ fist was shredded, blood and bile foaming at her mouth the instant his attack landed.
She was in such a daze she didn’t understand what was happening. How did he do that?
Unfortunately for Bulese, she hadn’t noticed that her earlier punch had given her more than just a nasty wound. She had blown straight through Sylas’ body… and the inside of Sylas’ body happened to be the only thing he had had any control over just moments ago.
And Sylas’ current level of Glassvolt Poison wasn’t something even a D-tier genius could easily resist—not when it was directly injected beneath their skin.
“Bulese!”
Everything had happened so fast that Kalem was only now reacting to the changes. The earlier beating Sylas had given him had already left him heavily injured.
Unfortunately for him, by the time he got the chance to react, his sister was keeling over, strong waves of air blasting out of her back as though Sylas had punched straight through her.
Sylas pulled his remaining arm back and grabbed Bulese’s hair before she toppled over entirely. She collapsed to her knees, her vision swimming as blood ran down her nose, ears, eyes, and mouth. She barely managed to keep her eyes from rolling back, doing everything in her power to maintain even the slightest bit of consciousness.
But Sylas didn’t move to finish the job. In fact, he didn’t even look over at the fuming Kalem, who seemed to have just enough self-control not to attack while his sister’s life was in someone else’s hands.
“I only need you to do one thing,” Sylas said calmly, speaking directly to Fanelei. “Stand right here.”
Fanelei didn’t hesitate to listen to Sylas, but even as she began to move, she felt a prickling sensation. An overwhelming sense of danger filled her heart.
She appeared by Sylas’ side hastily and then looked up into the skies.
Sylas, though, didn’t look up. He seemed to be trying his best to catch his breath.
Even now, there were still so many things outside of his control. This wasn’t the level of control he wanted over his life. It wasn’t enough.
A part of him seemed genuinely enraged that he had been outmaneuvered by a Legend and a Progenitor in their home territory. To Sylas, even that was unacceptable.
Fanelei’s pupils trembled when she saw Maldrith suddenly appear in the air.
By this point, the crowd realized that this was far bigger than just a spat between children.
Too few knew who Maldrith was… but the strongest among them could feel his presence.
Progenitor.
A Legend.
One and the same. Two unfathomable accomplishments in the body of a single man.
And he had just appeared before them all.
