Genetic Ascension - Chapter 1880 Taboo [Bonus]

Chapter 1880: Taboo [Bonus]
[Bonus chapter thanks to abdallahchelamat <3 extended ass name, sounds like royalty. What would your royal father think about you wasting ancestral money on silly little books?] Maldrith’s fury spread across the galaxy, a part of him he had long buried coming out in a furious tempest. Blood he had forgotten he had boiled within him, his heart beating so loudly that the sound waves shattered the glass of buildings and triggered worldwide earthquakes.
Tsunamis blotted out skylines and the alignment of the moon in the skies shifted, forcing the planet’s tilt to shift as well. Pulsing waves of magnetic fields that once protected the world instead seemed to set everything on fire.
Rays of radiation and solar flares that the planet was once protected from came through in violent spikes that wiped out entire forests.
As he roared, he didn’t seem to notice the destruction he was causing at all, but ironically enough, the city he stood above was the one that experienced the least turmoil and the fewest deaths.
Many died directly from his roar itself, but the protective formations of the city mostly held up. In addition, the aftereffects were mostly staved off by Maldrith’s presence itself.
Because he was here, the waves of the ocean couldn’t reach them, the lashing whips of the sun couldn’t manifest themselves, even the earth itself seemed to be forcefully stabilized.
Maldrith’s roar came to an end, but his fury certainly hadn’t.
He waved a hand and Kalem found himself yanked up into the air outside of his control. He tried to pull away, fury pulling at him too, but it was worthless.
Still, even he couldn’t help but freeze when he saw the ghastly hole in Maldrith’s chest. How was he even alive? That was a direct attack from a Legend.
“Who is he?” Maldrith said coldly.
Kalem tried to speak, but it felt like a steel collar was pressing down around his neck. It felt like it was on the verge of snapping his spine. Let alone speaking, he could neither breathe nor control what remained of his body.
Maldrith only loosened it the slightest bit, but Kalem’s rage almost made him not want to speak.
“Answer me.” The cold wisp of Maldrith’s voice cracked like a whip. A part of Kalem’s Will was completely shaved off and he found himself answering beside himself.
“Sylas Grimblade. He is Sylas Grimblade.”
“Is that name supposed to mean something to me?”
Maldrith’s words had only just formed when he heard the murmur of the crowd below. The realization seemed to be dawning on them all as well. The moment Kalem said the words, they knew exactly who he was.
It was clear to Maldrith that he had missed quite a lot while he was in meditation.
“Who is he?” Maldrith asked again.
“He is… he is…” Kalem realized he didn’t even know what to say. “He is of the 001 Sanctum…”
Kalem couldn’t say anything other than this. He didn’t even know where to begin, but this was quite frankly the only official title of Sylas that he knew.
Though he was aware of Sylas’ battle with the Seeing Eye Guild, not many but the truest core echelon knew of Sylas’ relationship with the Weaver Guild.
In order to understand that, you would have to understand the intricacies of Karma and understand what it would take to force the system to allow such a Quicktime Event.
For Kalem, who was hardly focused enough to consider his own power and training, how could he know about the intricacies of Karma and such things?
As far as he was aware, Disciple of the 001 Sanctum was the highest title that Sylas had.
Maldrith frowned. “Boy.”
His patience was already limited. But this fool Kalem was testing it even further.
Would the 001 Sanctum of all things form a genius capable of defeating both Kalem and Bulese a full tier beneath them?
Maybe in a rare instance.
But never in a million years would it be able to form a Legend. That was asinine.
Kalem didn’t even know how to tell his great-granduncle that it had once been the 073 Sanctum.
“Please… my sister…” Kalem coughed, and then remembered that Bulese was in a terrible state. Using the two brain cells he had, he even thought of a good argument. “She’ll be able to explain much better than I will!”
He hurriedly added this second part in. He didn’t know what was wrong with Maldrith, but Kalem had no choice but to suppress his dissatisfaction as far as he could.
Maldrith gave Kalem a glance and then looked toward the passed-out Bulese. She had grown as pale as a ghost. If she was left like that, it was only a matter of time before she died.
With a wave of his hand, she was ripped into the skies as well. And soon, a seed of lightning thinner than the breadth of a hair appeared.
BOOM.
Maldrith clenched his fist, reacting quickly to the suddenly unstable lightning.
But it spread far and wide, expanding until it engulfed the skies.
His eyes narrowed. This Aether…
‘A perfect 10,000 Foundations?’
A healing energy filled Bulese’s body and she found herself slowly and groggily awakening.
Kalem was about to say something, but he detected his lips completely sealed. Maldrith didn’t have any more time to waste.
“Speak. Who is Sylas Grimblade?”
Bulese blinked, but she was quicker on the uptake than her brother was.
“He is believed to have come from a Summoned World called Earth. He was originally part of the 073 Sanctum, but during the 713th Gathering, he elevated their standing to the 001 Sanctum, co-opting much of the Karma after placing first in the F- and E-tier competitions. The working theory is that he relied on a traitor of the Scorpion Lineage to do this and was probably in line to become the 714th Scorpion Warlord.”
“Was?”
“Something odd happened and he seemed to have triggered the appearance of a new Lineage in the Sanctum.”
Maldrith frowned.
“A new Lineage?”
“His Race mimics a lot of what our Spirit Beast Race does…”
The dangerous light in Maldrith’s eyes flashed.
Convergent Evolution. The biggest taboo of the universe.
