Genetic Ascension - Chapter 1884: Plan? (2)

Chapter 1884: Plan? (2)
Sylas faced the threshold of the city. The gates weren’t tolled like the gates on Planet Gold had been. The reason was because, to the Emperor Sanctum, those who could make it here were already cleared to do so.
Fanelei knew this, of course. But she thought that Sylas wanted to make it deeper into Emperor Sanctum territory. Technically, this was indeed the core of their territory. The Emperor Sanctum had deputies and Lineages here in small part. There were guards here, disciples here, powerhouses here.
Even if there wasn’t an A-tier, there were certainly at least a few Level 190 to 200s here at the very least. Even for a fringe region of their territory, this was the bare minimum.
Of course, Fanelei could easily deal with such people. That wasn’t exactly the problem, though.
The reason these people were here wasn’t necessarily to deal with any and all threats. It was as an alert mechanism.
The weakest of the Emperor Sanctum were left here-disciples who couldn’t hack it closer to the core, those who would never gain the right to visit the main Mountains of their Lineage.
This wasn’t necessarily a bad place to be. It was decent to train in, had a few Dungeons in the surroundings, and the beasts and various other threats were good. The only reason they hadn’t been better was obvious-Fanelei.
Here, though, it was different. The moment someone realized what was happening and sent a message, it was
over.
A pulse of something crimson and gold came from Sylas and the city gates shook. Then, he calmly crossed the threshold.
The last test was, obviously, easily passed by him. Of course he would be allowed in.
What was a surprise was that so was Fanelei.
But Sylas didn’t make any attempt to explain, and the so-called guards were the exact opposite of what one would have hoped. They were so lazy and uninterested that they didn’t even pay real attention to Sylas and Fanelei at all.
Just as Sylas had said, no one would have expected this to happen. In fact, news of what happened on Planet Gold hadn’t even spread yet.
If Bulese was smart, she had probably gone to report things back to the main Sanctum… but that wasn’t here.
This, Fanelei could understand. What she couldn’t understand was what could possibly be done here.
Sure, Sylas could stay here undetected for a while. But then what?
What would he gain without going to the main Emperor Sanctum? That was where the real danger lay.
But Sylas walked right to the core of the city, and then right into what practically looked like a government building on Earth. Then… he waited in line as though he were at the DMV.
Fanelei was absolutely speechless.
She just followed after Sylas, somewhat paranoid that someone would do something or say something. It wasn’t like they were exactly hiding. In fact, it was the exact opposite.
But then she noticed something else.
Everyone else here looked quite similar to them. There were a few stragglers of other Races, but the majority just looked like Humans with colorful eyes… The same as Sylas and Fanelei.
The Analei looked about as human as you could get, and Sylas was quite literally human.
If not for their oddly colored eyes, one wouldn’t think there was anything different about the Spirit Beasts at all.
Then, it was finally Sylas’ turn.
A fat, unkempt man behind the desk grumbled an acknowledgment and then spoke.
“Dungeon registry, permit application, or loan inquiry. If you want something else, check the other lines.”
“Dungeon registry,” Sylas said calmly.
“Code. Time frame. Payment.”
Sylas pressed a card down and slid it into the window separating them.
“Code 000. Sub-code 666539-5464. Now.”
The man jolted when he heard Code 000; it seemed to send a spike of something through him.
He looked up at Sylas and really seemed to pay attention to him for the first time. Seeing Sylas’ poor state and blood-covered face, he seemed to realize he was dealing with someone who wanted to die and just shook his head.
He took the card in Sylas’ hand and swiped it, then spun a device of glass and floating Runes around.
He blinked again when he looked at the card, his eyes narrowing. But by then, Sylas had already swiped his fingers as the Runes chimed and a ding echoed.
The man hesitated, but still slid the card back.
“Here.”
Sylas took the card and the registration that came along with it.
“It will be ready in 20 seconds.”
Sylas took his things and left with Fanelei in tow. By now, though, she seemed much less confused. As for why that was, she didn’t make it clear.
Sylas didn’t leave the government building. Instead, he looked at the registration he received, then past the fat man and deeper into the building.
He found a line of elevators and stepped in front of an unoccupied one. Swiping his registration papers at it, a beep registered and the elevator doors opened.
He stepped forward and Fanelei followed him.
…
Back where he had left, the government official was still in a bit of a daze, and then there was a swirling confusion in his eyes. But after years of monotonous work, his brain wasn’t firing as well as it should have.
If not for Code 000, he would have never even looked up. Sylas could have said anything else and it wouldn’t have mattered.
‘666539-5464… what is that…’ He plugged in the code. ‘… Monkey King…? What is that?’
It didn’t make any sense. The system had registered it, so it should be a Dungeon that existed. But he knew every Lineage and had never heard of this one.
How could he know that this matter had become one of the biggest secrets of the entire Emperor Sanctum?
Code 000 only meant one thing. It meant one wanted to enter an Emperor Challenge Dungeon, one that could give someone the chance to become a Mountain Disciple.
But no one had ever heard of a Monkey King Lineage…
