Getting a Sugar Mommy in Cultivation World!! - Chapter 787 - 787: Being Hunted

The deafening explosion claimed the whole treehouse; the raging flames expanded towards the heavens. Despite how contained the blast was, the searing heat from the flames burned everything that touched them.
Moments after it happened, ten figures appeared on a tree opposite to the ones that had been burned down.
“Won’t this kill them?” One of the leaders of the two squads asked, patting the flames off of his robes.
“The readings were no longer as weak as before.” The second leader replied calmly, “It showed that one of the two had already surpassed the Golden Core Realm.”
Despite how grave the situation they had been in, the indifference in their tones never wavered, as if they were robots and not living people.
“That’s on par with the Generals.” The first one replied before taking out the tracker once more, “But that also means there is a chance they are still—”
Words never fully left the man’s mouth as a thin red line appeared across his face. It extended from the middle of his lips to the end of his neck.
Hearing the silence, the second man turned to look in his direction, only to see the upper section from the line sliding down his body like a butter brick on a hot pan. There were no fountains of blood or any organs slipping out of the body.
Thud
With a heavy sound, the body fell in two pieces right before the man. His eyes trailed towards the tracker that fell from his hands and saw the two qi signatures they had followed still glowing ever so brightly.
One of them was behind the burning tree, hidden from their sight, and the other one…
“Watch your backs and spread out.” The moment he saw the energy trace behind them, the leader ordered everyone to be calm, but it was already too late. Two more heads were lying on the ground as they moved away from the spot.
“Hmm?” The squad leader looked around, but he failed to notice anyone with his eyes.
As far as he could see with his eyes, he only saw trees and destruction; there was no sign of a man even being there.
The man turned to look at the tracker on the ground once more to check the location of their target and saw it moving towards one of his men.
“Behind you!” He immediately snapped his head towards one of the soldiers in an attempt to alert him, but it was already too late.
He only saw a streak of silver light before another head flew in the air.
“The enemy is good at hiding; change the tactics.” Realizing that their current actions were getting them nowhere, the leader changed his strategy: “Gather in the middle, watch each other’s back, and make sure to keep an eye on the surroundings.”
Like puppets being controlled by simple words, each soldier did what they were told and formed a circle in the middle, their eyes locked on the dense forest around them.
Silence filled the air; no one spoke or breathed unless necessary. The only sound that reached their ears was the sound of the air moving. Even the rustling of the leaves would make their ears twitch.
The tension in the air rose as more time passed without any signs of the target being spotted.
‘But then again, this plays in our hands.’ The leader thought to himself as he assessed the area before him, ‘The explosion must have caught the attention of other squads; now I just have to waste more time like this and wait for their arrival—’
Woosh!
At this moment, the leader saw something very familiar happen once more. The whistling sound of someone moving barely reached his ears before he heard a curdling scream reaching his ears.
Following his instincts, the leader turned around to look at the source of the sound and saw something that would have scared any ordinary person. Half of his leftover soldiers were lying on the ground, their corpses twisted in a very grotesque manner.
Standing on top of those bodies was a single man. Wuhan looked straight into the eyes of the leader and smirked wildly. His body was riddled with burn marks, from his chest to one side of his face.
The scars showed signs of healing, but even then Wuhan looked like a savage hunter with the twisted smile on his burnt face.
The rest of the remaining soldiers also seemed to have noticed his arrival and raised their weapons at him. But the emperor disregarded them as air and kept his eyes locked on one person.
“You took your eyes off the target.” His lips parted, and a gleeful tone reached the leader’s ears.
At first the man tilted his head ever so slightly in confusion, but then it dawned on him…
Woosh!
But it was too late! The squad leader felt a cold string wrapping around his neck, followed by a little tug, and the next moment, his vision changed. He no longer saw Wuhan but the clear sky above their heads.
‘The one hiding was not the weaker man…’ These were the last words that echoed in his mind before his consciousness slipped away as well.
His head was not the only one that was severed. The string that decapitated him was also wrapped around the heads of the rest of the living soldiers when it was pulled.
Looking at the heap of corpses lying on the ground, Wuhan’s smile disappeared and his steps faltered.
Just then, a figure appeared beside him, holding him carefully.
The figure was none other than the guard Wuhan had saved, but he was dressed in dark robes, ones matching the outfit of an assassin.
“Please forgive me, your majesty, for going against your orders and using my ‘skills’ without your clearance.” The man lowered his head and begged for mercy. “Not only that, you even had to get burned to save me.”
Wuhan smiled wryly hearing those words and shook his head. “I know I asked you to keep your identity as my shadow guard hidden, but no one saw you today, and it was a matter of our safety.”
He lowered his head and glanced at the marks on his body that were close to being completely “For that reason… you are excused, and these wounds are superficial. Now, hurry up and change your clothes; we have to look for others.”
